Rank 8: Minnesota Grey ducks. 2-5
Week 5:
Loss to the Dallas Birddogs in Dallas 30-10
The Grey Ducks had been flying high the 2 weeks running up to this clash in Dallas with wins over Portland and Tijuana. With the birddogs sitting on one win in the season this game was meant to be finished before it started. Alas, this was not the case. The lone bright spark in a dark turning point for the Grey Ducks came from an Akerele kickoff return for a touchdown. This may have sprung the ducks to life if they hadn't already been in a 24-3 hole.
As per usual there were a couple of decent pieces in the defense - Chainbreaker once again had a ridiculous amount of tackles with 13 to his name and a couple of others got sacks. But this will be hard to take for Minnesota as they would really have been targeting a win here.
Week 6:
Loss to Kansas City Coyotes in Minnesota 31-21
The ducks started off well here with a Rotchburns rushing touchdown to open up the scorebook. The Coyotes bit back and racked up a decent score. Vermillion hit the play of the week with an 89 yard rushing touchdown in n the 3rd to try and claw back. Lebby Newton closed the scorebook for the cmgame with a receiving touchdown to make the game look a little closer.
Gleel was by far and away the best defensive player on the ducks with 12 tackles and a sack.
Week 7:
Loss to Myrtle Beach Buccaneers in Minnesota 26-6
There really isn't much to mention on the offensive side of things. 2 field goals was all they managed.
Once again Wasrabi Gleel was the standout performer for the Grey Ducks with another 13 tackles including one for a loss.
Rank 7: Dallas Birddogs 2-5
Week 5:
Victory over Minnesota Grey Ducks in Dallas 30-10
This game turned out to be the battle of the whipping boys and fortunately for Dallas they came out on top. Dallas completely dominated the first half of this game racking up 1 receiving and 2 rushing touchdowns. 2 rushing TDs? I hear you ask. Surely that means Zoe Watts had a ridiculous game... Alas for some reason this week the GM (ahem, sim) decided Bob Murphy was the way to go for the majority of carries - punching 2 of those attempts in. The scoring was, however, kicked off in the first quarter when Taro Raimon caught a perfectly weighted pass from Calliban to put him in the endzone. After the 2 touchdowns from Murphy the Birddogs were unable to cross the whitewash another time settling for field goals from Kicky Man.
The defence stepped up in this game with Leaking registering 11 tackles and a sack with Crowder and Name picking up a sack each in the process.
Week 6:
Loss to Myrtle Beach Buccaneers in Myrtle Beach 21-18
The birddogs travelled to Myrtle Beach for this one to take in the High flying Buccaneers. Dallas came with little to lose as severe underdogs in the game and were hoping to catch Myrtle Beach napping. That looked like quite a possibility in the first half when it looked like they would go in at half time with a 10-7 lead. There was heartbreak however, 12 seconds away from half time when the myrtle beach qb connected with his receiver in the endzone giving them a slender 4 point lead. With the buccaneers extending the lead to 11 points, Dallas had an uphill battle on their hands. Raimon scored towards the end of the fourth and converted the 2 point attempt but it was too little too late with Myrtle Beach running out the clock. A quiet week for the defence this week with Name and Thebaw registering a sack each and Crowder registering a TFL.
Week 7:
Loss to Portland Pythons in Portland 38-3.
To round off the first half of the season the Birddogs traveled to portland to take on the pythons. This was meant to be an even back and forth game. Unfortunately for Dallas this was not the case. I will spare the long write-up here as it was horrendous to watch live as someone who stayed up to watch it at half 1 in the morning. The offense were poor, the defence was none existent. Murphy had almost double the carries of Watts. Thebaw and Crowder both went MIA. Poor game all round.
Rank 6: London Royals 3-4
Week 5:
Defeat to Tijuana Luchadores in Tijuana 24-20
The Royals had a very quiet first half down in Mexico. Whether it was a bad batch of chilli or some dodgy fajitas the Royals fell to a 17-3 deficit by half time.
Cortez started to pull the Londoners back into the game with a touchdown thrown to J'Vathon and another thrown to Joe show at the end of the third. Neither team could get into the endzone in the 4th meaning the Luchadores held on for the win.
Jones was the highlight on defence with a sack a forced fumble and two recoveries.
Week 6:
Victory over the Norfolk SeaWolves in London 33-13
The Royals did a power of work over a 10 minute period in the second quarter with a receiving touchdown from Frank Michell and 2 large rushing touchdowns from Danny King putting them in the driving seat for the rest of the game.
Fencik chipped a few field goals in the second half to keep the scoreboard ticking over and helped the Royals hand the SeaWolves a fat L.
Last years number one pick Domine domine-ated the SeaWolves Oline bagging 3 sacks and a TFL to wreak havoc on the QB.
Week 7:
Loss to the Kansas City Coyotes in Kansas 26-23
London started this game with a flurry. Thanks to the trusted boot of Fencik and a 1 yard billowing touchdown from Yaki. A lapse of defensive concentration in the second allowed the Coyotes to snatch the lead from the Royals leaving them trailing at half time 16-13. Another touchdown in the 3rd, this time for Danny King put them in the lead again, stretched by another perfect kick from Fencik. Unfortunately for London, that was all they could muster - the Coyotes came back with minutes to spare and put the final kick over to lock the game down.
Rank 5: Kansas City Coyotes 3-4
Week 5:
Lost to the Norfolk SeaWolves in Norfolk 10-3
There really isn't much to say about this game from the Coyotes side of things. They put in a great effort against the reigning champs but fell to them like most do. The only points came off of the boot of Juke Thomason with the Coyotes remaining Touchdownless the full game.
Simwell was likely the defender of the game for Kansas City with 1 tackle for a loss and one forced fumble with the accompanying recovery. 10-3 is not a bad score away from home against the reigning champions. Kansas have every right to feel proud.
Week 6:
Victory over the Minnesota Grey Ducks in Minnesota 31-21
Up to this point in the season Kansas City have only taken 1 win. Travelling away to Minnesota felt like a forgone conclusion that they may make it 5 losses out of 6 games.
Instead a replenished Coyotes side turned up to Minnesota bringing their A-game with them. Crayne Whebet opened up the scoring this week for the Coyotes following an early TD from the ducks. They went into the half tied at 7-7.
The Coyotes kicked it up a notch in the second half with Sergio kitchens crashing over the whitewash for a 6 yard rushing touchdown. Rigby Raccoon then went lights out in the 4th quarter receiving 2 touchdowns from Covington III to all but seal the game for the Coyotes.
Interceptions from Goodman and Judge ended Minnesota drives early really helping them finish the game on top.
Week 7:
Victory over the London Royals in Kansas 26-23
Kansas did not show up in the first quarter of the is game in the slightest allowing London to open up a 10 point lead. After the change of ends Kansas took a firm grip on the game when Sergio Kitchens and Joshua Campbell sandwiched a Thomason kick to take the lead 16-10. London pulled it back to 16-13 just before the half to keep the game in touching distance.
London came out guns blazing in the second half pulling ahead with a 7 point lead. Kansas of old would have crumbled at this point but instead they were able to push on and tie up the game through a Kevin Fakon rush. They then went on to win through another Thomason field goal.
Rank 4: Portland Pythons 3-4
Week 5:
Loss to Myrtle Beach Buccaneers in Myrtle Beach 20-12
Not much to talk about here from an attacking perspective. Portland scored 4 field goals through the boot of Psuedo Q. The best defensive performance probably came from Smith who registered 14 tackles with a forced fumble. Enough of that game as it was especially weak for portland.
Week 6:
Loss to Tijuana Luchadores in portland 34-27
This game was everything you want in a football game back and forth with a lot of offense from both sides. Howitzer was on fire this game keeping the Pythons in the first half with passes thrown to Nick Marksman and Cal Cutta. This helped the Pythons keep in touching distance going into half time.
Portland came out guns blazing in the second half with howitzer firing the cannons Korbin Brown was able to latch on to not one, but two touchdown passes thrown his way to take the lead.
Offense petered out at this point and the Luchadores scored 3 uninterrupted touchdowns to finish off the game. A spirited effort from Portland though.
Week 7:
Victory over the Dallas Birddogs 38-3 in Portland.
A complete and utter drubbing, a monumental doing, a complete teardown of Dallas. That's all that can be said of this game. Limiting the visitors to 3 points is no mean feat. I'll not bore you with the details just the main facts. Howitzer was once again immense, throwing another 4 touchdowns. 2 of these were receptions for Cal Cutta, 1 for Korbin Brown and 1 for Dave Batista. The scoring was rounded out by Drake who returned an interception for a pick six.
If the rest of the defence Etrigan T Slayer looked immense registering 2 tackles for loss and a sack.
Rank 3: Myrtle Beach Buccaneers 5-2
Week 5:
Victory over Portland Pythons in Myrtle Beach 20-12
Bend, don't break was the order of the day for the Buccaneers defence when they were visited by the Pythons of Portland. With 0 touchdowns allowed its easy to see why the buccaneers won this week. Mo was the first on the score sheet for Myrtle Beach converting a 9 yard pass for a touchdown. Allowing the Buccs to go into the locker room with a slender 7-6 lead.
The second half was much more of the same; stout defence combined with a cerebral ability to take care of their chances the Buccs were able to score a further 2 touchdowns whilst limiting the opponent to havong to settle for field goals. Those TDs came in the form of a Jeffrey rush and a Reed reception. Seeing the Pythons away in a hotly contested match 20-12
Week 6:
Victory over Dallas Birddogs in Dallas 21-18
I came into this match as a Birddogs fan with low expectations and came away pleasantly surprised whilst still very gutted.
Myrtle Beach were far and away outright favourites. The Birddogs surprised the buccaneers with a quick start taking a 10-7 lead in the first quarter with Holloway scoring on the play of the game - an 87 yard rush for a touchdown. Myrtle beach trailed the majority of the second quarter but his the knockout punch with 14 seconds left on the clock with a receiving touchdown for McJimmerson.
This killed the birddogs spirit and the buccaneers scored in the 3rd with another rushing touchdown for Holloway. Myrtle beach managed to fend off a late rally from the birddogs finishing up 21-18.
Woods 12 tackles (1 for a loss) was the highlight of the game defensively, although Winchester and Jackson bagged a sack each as well.
Week 7:
Victory over Minnesota Grey Ducks in Minnesota 26-6
The Grey Ducks have fast become the whipping boy of the NFC with just 2 wins to their name so far. Myrtle Beach looked to take advantage of this away from home and take advantage they did. Taking a staunch 19-3 lead into the half time locker room allowed the buccaneers to coast for the second half inky scoring one more l touchdown to finish the game 26-6.
Alex Reed was the main touchdown benefactor with 2 receiving TDs (one from Daytona and one from Holloway) and a rushing touchdown from Holloway sealed the victory in a pretty bow. Not to be outdone the defence had a cracking performance with 7 TFLs 3 sacks a fumble recovery and a safety. Really killing drives left right and centre.
Rank 2: Norfolk Seawolves 5-2
Week 5:
Beat Kansas City Coyotes in Norfolk 10-3
This was not a game for lovers of offensive football. 0 points in the first half left the crowd looking for more. Melvin Murder Moose broke the deadlock in the 3rd quarter with a 26 yard field goal. The Coyotes struck back mid way through the 4th quarter with a kick from Juke Thomason. Rickie Vaughne saw the Coyotes away with a 71 yard punt return touchdown with less than 2 minutes left in the game.
You would have thought with this low a scoring game there would have been a huge amount of big defensive plays to draw from. Unfortunately not, there was a sack from Flaxon Jaxon-Waxon in the second quarter and a couple of tackles for loss including a big one from Rucker. Skrills fumbled the ball fairly early on in the 3rd quarter.
Week 6:
Defeat to London Royals in London 33-13
Is this the beginning of Norfolks undoing? The SeaWolves played a fairly limp game here taking an early 6-0 lead through the ever reliable foot of Melvin Murder Moose. They didnt see another point on the board until 6 minutes were left on the clock with London scoring 30 unanswered points between Norfolks scores. Their only touchdown of the match came off a short range pass from quarterback Ramza with Dre Matthews on the receiving end. With 0 sacks and 0 turnovers from the defense there really isn't much to highlight here. I'd assume the defensive game ball would have gone to Rusty Rucker with his 2 pass deflections and 8 tackles.
Week 7:
Defeat to Tijuana Luchadores in Tijuana 23-14
The Seawolves looked to shake off the disappointing performance in London with a bounce back game in Mexico. Early on it really looked like it would happen with Norfolk taking a 14-7 lead through touchdowns from Captain Rodgers and Harley Frank. Unfortunately for Norfolk that's where their points finished and the Luchadores began. Scoring a further 17 unanswered points Tijuana finished the game strong helping them top the power rankings at the halfway mark.
It's not all doom and gloom for the SeaWolves though as they have come through the rough half of the season looking very strong. With more than half of their remaining games at home they should comfortably make it into the playoffs.
Rank 1: Tijuana Luchadores 5-2
Week 5:
Beat London Royals in Tijuana 24-20
Tijuana were looking to get back to winning ways after losing their previous 2 games against NFC opposition. This week against the royals they were able to do that, thanks in no small part to Bronko Mills 2 rushing touchdowns in the first half. This gave the Luchadores a nicely cushioned 17-3 lead going into the locker room at half time.
Walker got the lead back up to 14 points in the 3rd quarter after London hit back early. The defense held out in the fourth to win the game 24-20 after another London rally in the 3rd. With 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles the Luchadores defence was on fire. Schell was the leader of the stable with a sack a forced fumble and 2 pass deflections.
Week 6:
Beat Portland Pythons in Portland 34-27
Another high scoring game here but this one saw the Mexicans travelling to portland to play the Pythons. As we're so used to from the Luchadores they got of to their patented early start with walker receiving a touchdown pass from Boss Jr to open the scoring. The pythons leveled it up late in the first quarter but it didn't last long. Footballleague took the ensuing kick off to the house for a 103 yard kickoff return. At this point it was obvious fit was going to be tijuanas day. Theeks stretched the lead to 21-7 early in the 2nd quarter with Portland hitting back just before half time.
I don't know what was said to the Luchadores at half time but they came out limp giving up two TDs to portland and losing the lead in the process. They rallied in the 4th however and came from behind for the 34-27 victory. Terry Tate, office linebacker, really stood out this game with 2 sacks and a tackle for loss.
Week 7:
Beat Norfolk Seawolves in Tijuana 23-14
This was the clash of the titans in the SFC the one everyone has been waiting for. This game lived up to the billing in the first half with both teams trading touchdowns (the luchadores coming in the form of Theeks and Mills. The only thing separating the teams was a missed extra point from Tijuanas Jack Burton.
The second half was all Tijuana, scoring a field goal and a touchdown thanks to Mason gillan converting an interception for a pick 6.
Gillan sealed up DPOTG with the pick 6, any other day Wrecks would have sealed it with 4 tackles for losses.
