Hi, hey, hello, my name is Jared Cumberbatch(JC) from NSFL Storytime! and we are here in the beautiful city of Denver. Why do you ask? Well because today is the last day of training camp for the Colorado Yeti and we managed to secure a very special guest for you on today’s episode. He is an absolute stud on the football field. He was voted as the Best LB in the league. He was also voted as the Defensive Player of the Year for the Colorado Yeti by his own teammates. Most you may know him very well, please welcome my guest for tonight, the guy with the best smile in all of football, Johnathon Saint!
JC: Mr. Saint, thanks for coming on to the show, we are glad to have you!
JS: Thanks for having me, I’m grateful to be on your show, but please call me Johnny.
JC: Okay Johnny, how has training camp been going for you?
JS: Oh training camp has been fun for me, extremely hard, but fun. You know I had a terrible offseason in terms of conditioning.
JC: It couldn’t be that bad, why would you say that?
JS: Well, the local Wingstop supplied me with free wings during the offseason so to say I took advantage of that deal would be a massive understatement.
JC: I hope you get in shape by preseason then.
JS: Yeah, training camp has really been helping me get back in shape and it’s also a reminder that the season is this close to starting.
JC: Sounds you had an eventful offseason.
JS: You could say that, yeah.
JC: I do want to talk about your offseason but first I want to finish talking about training camp. You guys lost some big names to the expansion draft and had a silent offseason. Can you talk about what you saw from the new players in training camp?
JS: Yeah, this group we have right now is a dangerous one. You know, we made it all the way to the championship and the team we have now, in my opinion, is better than that. Everybody on this team has a boulder on their shoulder and this season is all about redemption. On offense, we got some dangerous weapons for Noble to throw to. You saw that throw that Noble made to Jon Ross, right?
JC: Yeah, I did. That was absolutely amazing!
JS: I know right! That play was a thing of beauty. And then we have Rich Gucci and Noble and that is like a hand and a glove, they just go together perfectly.
JC: Well what about the Defense?
JS: On defense, oh boy, we are disgusting but in a fabulous way. The players we were able to get is simply amazing. Getting Blaster Blade, the best prospect in the entire was amazing for us. Then we were able to get the best safety prospect in the draft in Roman Thomas in the second round. We got Big Bot too and now we have a cyborg, literally a cyborg on the D-Line. Getting Steve Austin in the 9th was a massive steal for us. And Torque Lewith will be one of the most fun safeties to watch during the season.
JC: Speaking of Torque Lewith, he changed positions from quarterback to safety and you had a few of those this year, how have their transitions been so far?
JS: Oh man, it's been so fun to watch. I respect the hell out of Torque Lewith and Luke Tiernan for changing positions. Both are putting their all into the change and I can't wait for the league to see what we've been seeing this entire training camp. I love that Torque Lewith is playing safety now. He has been using his previous experience as a quarterback to make plays as a safety. He is already an absolute beast and also has unlimited potential. Then we have Luke Tiernan. Not only did he transition from running back to linebacker but he has been doing it at the MIKE position. This guy just got instincts, man, to go along with physical abilities he already has. We are giving Tiernan the reigns and we know he's going to thrive under that pressure. Adding those two to the team, there is no question that we will have the best defense in the league.
JC: Quite a bold claim, are you willing to bet on that?
JS: Hell yeah I’d bet on that.
JC: I love the confidence. But let's go back a little and talk about your off-season, what were you doing during your time off?
JS: Well for the first few months of the offseason, I literally did nothing, I was gloomy about the championship, and then after I got out of my funk I went to Disney World and…
JC: Disney world?
JS: Yeah!
JC: Why Disney world?
JS: Well because no one from the Outlaws went and the NSFL had already bought their tickets. Not to mention that it’s a very magical place. But anyway, after my stay at Disney world, I decided to open my own restaurant in Denver.
JC: Really?
JS: Yeah, well maybe it's more of a tavern or a bar and grill than a restaurant but yeah I am
now a young entrepreneur.
JC: Well what's it called?
JS: It's called Saints & Sinners and it's located in downtown Denver.
JC: Ohh, I love it! It's a nice play on words. I might have to come down one day
JS: Yeah, you should come by and when you do come, I'm demanding you to get our angel wings with sweet potato fries.
JC: Sounds wonderful! I’m might even go tonight.
JS: Well I'll be waiting for you there, then.
JC: Since we are kinda going backwards on your timeline do you mind if we talk about last season?
JS: Of course I don’t mind, boss.
JC: Well can you talk us through and describe to us your first season in the NSFL?
JS: Yeah no problem, When I got drafted in the tenth round, I knew that the Yeti was getting a steal and my goal for the season was to prove that to the rest of league. But more than that I wanted to do everything I can to help the team win.
JC: Well I think you did more than enough to help your win.
JS: And I want to do more this season but anyway I knew from the first time that I stepped into the locker that we were going to be special and we were. We made it all the way to the championship.
JC: Speaking of the championship game, do you feel comfortable talking about it?
JS: Yeah man it just sucked playing in that game. Nothing was going right for us on offense or defense. We had one of the best defenses in the league last year and we let them score over 20 it was heartbreaking.
JC: So would you now consider the Outlaws your main rivals?
JS: I definitely think so. Last year we showed that we are the cream of the crop and both teams only got better. They got the better of the matchup the last time we met and congratulations to them but it won't happen again. I look forward to beating the Arizona Outlaws for the Ultimus trophy next year. There is even a running debate about which team has a better linebacker Corp.
JC: So who do you think has the better linebacker corp?
JS: I think the Yeti definitely had the better linebacker group. Wyatt Fulton is criminally underrated in this league and we also had a talented player in Everest Teagarden last year. But now that we have added Steve Austin AND Luke Tiernan, next year there will be no debate about who has the better linebacker Corp.
JC: Willing to bet on that too?
JS: Of course I am willing to bet. I am always in the market for some easy money.
JC: I bet the some of the Outlaws might have something to say about that.
JS: Let them, the smallest dog usually bark the loudest. It just so happens that they have a right to bark for the moment.
JC: Well let’s move on to your individual accolades. We have to ask, which award, Best LB, Yeti DPOTY, or #6 on Top 50, was your favorite one to win last season?
JS: Oh man, that’s like asking which one of your kids is your favorite child. I guess if I have to choose it would be the Yeti Defensive Player of the Year award.
JC: Do you think you could give us a reason why you chose that award?
JS: Yeah of course. It’s because the award is voted on by the Colorado Yeti players and for them to say that I was the best defensive player on the team means a lot to me. Ha, I guess picking my favorite child wasn’t that hard at all.
JC: Hahaha! Is there an individual award that you might want to win next season?
JS: Well It would definitely be super cool to be the first defensive player to win the MVP award. But the award I really want is the NSFL defensive player of the year. I was a finalist for the award this year and it would mean a lot to me if I won it this year.
JC: I think it safe to say that all of Colorado is pulling for you. Last couple of questions, what is your predictions for the year?
JS: The Colorado Yeti hoisting up the Ultimus trophy and becoming the second ever champions in the NSFL.
JC: I like the sound of that. Okay, I have one last question for you...Ranch or Bleu cheese on your wings?
JS: Easy...bleu cheese. Ranch is good as a suitable replacement for bleu cheese but bleu cheese is the OG
JC: Well we have to agree to disagree on that but thanks for taking the time out of your day to speak with us.
JS: I guarantee that if you eat at my restaurant you will like bleu cheese better. It’s homemade. But it's been my pleasure! It was nice talking to you today.
And there we have it! Johnathon Saint has high hopes for himself and for the season. And if you are ever in the Denver area make sure you check out Saints & Sinners. The preseason is less than 24 hours away and we are all impatiently waiting for to see our favorite players play some football. My name is Jared Cumberbatch and this has been...NSFL Storytime!
