Dsfl APY Final S24
I wrote the first all purpose yards article a couple weeks ago mainly for fun, a little bit of tooting my own horn, for cash and partially to get used to playing with Google sheets, because I am too broke to afford excel, especially not on a phone. This one however I feel almost obligated to write because I feel like the results would impact my voting if I were somehow on the awards voting squad, fortunately nobody knows who I am so that won't happen. I still think it is important to put information like this out there for perspective sake at the very least. I am almost certain those who read this will come away having learned something from it, and it is something I would be intrigued to continue to do after I reach the isfl level. I can't say that I would do it for both, although the prospect of sifting through the bigger league sounds daunting on its own, I am always up for a challenge, so perhaps it would be neat for some rookies to see their stats in an all purpose yards perspective and not have to work for that information. Ideally it would be nice if that was a tracked stat, but I don't know if that is possible under the current situation as I have no idea how that data is collected and stored. I would say from my own viewpoint I think it is an intriguing stat, just by digging into it I believe that I have learned some things about the sim itself, and I can't say my last article did it, but I am fairly certain I've noticed at least one team having changed something since my last article on the topic that I believe was made either influenced by my article itself or by looking into similar things. Without being a mind reader or hacking into some of these war rooms, I'll never know so I suppose I'll just get into the meat of the article and avoid droning on for sweet fake money.
So in the interest of complete clarity, I did not do the yards for every player in the league. I started with the special teams page. I didn't bother with defensive players as despite several being good returners, the only other possible way they could get yards is through interceptions and fumbles, and those statistics while extremely awesome, are very unlikely to overtake any of the wide receiver and running backs that made this list. Also those yards are not tracked, they should be but they aren't, and I am unwilling or unable(you be the judge) to watch every game on the off chance that it played out that way. So I focused on kick and ount returners first, this is all purpose yards after all and people participating in two phases of the game whose sole purpose is to get yards(score points technically, but shut up) seemed the best method. After returns, I looked at rushing and really I only went to the receiving page to fill in stat lines after I gathered the info from the other two pages. Seeing as the top receiver has one thousand and two yards, and did not appear on the other two pages, I felt like my methods were pretty solid, I am not saying I'm one hundred percent accurate i am only saying that I would rather write three paragraphs explaining just how confident I am in my methodology than actually do the work which would have taken quite a bit longer and would probably have been just as accurate. Essentially I used pretty reasonable logic and it seemed to hold up under moderate scrutiny.
15: Sergio Kitchens - Kansas City Coyotes - 1168 Yards
The players in the eleven through fifteen range are the ones I am least sure about, but Sergio Kitchens made this list purely through rushing and receiving. He helped his team through very traditional roles. He is a season twenty four player, built as an all purpose back. He was fifth overall in total rushing yards.. He has the speed for kick returns and punt returns if he remains in the dsfl next year, and could find himself higher on this list barring a better option.
14: Crowbar Theeks - Tijuana Luchadores - 1186 Yards
Crowbar is another player who made this list under the more expected parts of his role, with great rushing numbers and a contribution in the passing game. He was sixth overall in total rushing yards, but a bigger contribution in the receiving game, gave him a slight nod over Sergio Kitchens. He is a season twenty four player, but appears to have gone inactive, I expect his contributions to fall until he is no longer dsfl eligible.
13: Danny King - London Royals - 1189 Yards
Danny King made his contributions all across the board in all four statistics, returning punts, returning kicks, having a decent chunk on the ground, but also one hundred and fourty five receiving yards it doesn't seem like a whole lot, but it beats every other running back on this list. He is a season twenty three player who looks like he might be about to make the jump to the ISFL, but may hang around for a while still.
12: Noah Akerele - Minnesota Grey Ducks - 1234 Yards
The first rookie from season twenty five on the list and also one of the few who made this list mainly for their work in the return game. Eight hundred and fourty yards on kick returns good for second in the league, he put up up decent receiving numbers as a receiver on the run heavy Grey Ducks. He didn't have a lot of opportunity here, but he took what he could get. He may also be the only reason I did a top fifteen instead of a top ten, which was a lot more work than I had originally intended.
11: Bronko Mills - Tijuana Luchadores - 1317 Yards
Another season twenty five player. Another Luchadore, another player who made this list purely with rushing and receiving yards. He was the third overall leading rusher, and in this league that is likely plenty to make this list, slightly over one hundred receiving yards didn't hurt either.
10: Captain Rogers - Norfolk Sealwolves - 1332 Yards
A season twenty four player out of Norfolk. The second overall leading rusher in the league, definitely interesting how many people who didn't take returns made this list, makes me wonder how wrong my last list was.
9: Tre'Darius J'Vathon - London Royals- 1370 Yards
He is a season twenty four player from London and as a wide receiver he spread the work between catching passes and kick/punt returns. He had over six hundred receiving yards and over six hundred kick return yards. He was number ten overall in receiving and number six over all in the kick return game.
8: Gunner Thorbjornsson - London Royals - 1402 Yards
Gunner Thorbjornsson a season twenty four player out of London made the list being the number two overall receiver and contributing in the kick return game. The huge receiving contribution definitely lead the way here as he was only sixteenth on the list for kick returners, great team contributions overall though.
7: Darren Pama - Portland Pythons - 1479 yards
Darren Pama is a season twenty five rookie. HE was also only fourteenth overall in the kick return yardage department. He followed this up by being eleventh overall in rushing showing a clear bias for rushers in this department, as if the pure rushers didn't point that out already, but wait it gets worse.
6: Taro Raimon - Dallas Birddogs - 1682 Yards
Taro Raimon a season twenty four wide receiver, he represents a few interesting points as compared to the rest of the list. First is there is a two hundred yard gap between him and Darren Pama. Also with a tie for seventh in kick returns and being the second overall punt returner( the first overall barely didn't make the list) he got here mainly by return yarda and did a pretty good job with it. Not to take away from his sixth overall in receiving yards, I mean this more as a compliment to those punt return stats
5: Joshua Campbell - Kansas City Coyotes - 1699 Yards
A season twenty four player out of Kansas City, he got this high on the list by being top twelve in kick return yards, number four in punt return yards and as a receiver he was also number four, good contributor all across the board.
4: 3' Jeffrey - Myrtle Beach Buccaneers - 1872 Yards
A season twenty three player here, his experience shows through. He was the seventh overall rusher in the league, with a minor contribution in receiving yards. Ninth overall in kick returns also seeing some work with punt returns. He represents another huge jump of nearly two hundred yards in the statistics, and the last person on the list before we reach the elites of the all purpose yardage stat.
3: Jameson Vermillion - Minnesota Grey Ducks - 2023 Yards
I talk about me a lot, mainly because I like me, but this isn't about me this is about yards, All Purpose Yards and two thousand is where I would really consider the elite line to be at and with only three people having crossed it this season, I would say that is a fair point. Fourth overall in rushing, fifth overall in kick returning, he also caught passes and returned punts although didn't do as well at those last two, pretty solid. I would say offensive rookie of the year candidate, right here, but I wouldn't consider return yards as offense, but would you?
2: Korbin Brown - Portland Pythons - 2088 Yards
Korbin Brown, a season twenty four wide receiver from Portland. He is the kick return leader for the league this year, and if I read everything correctly with nine hundred eighty yards may have set a record. He was also fifth overall as a punt returner and third overall as a receiver, this guy add value to everything he touches, to the tune of over two thousand value.
1: Zoe Watts - Dallas Birddogs - 2115 Yards
Here would be my personal choice for Most Valuable Player, lead the league in rushing and fourth overall in kick returning, caught a handful of passes and didn't even pad stats in the punt return game. Solid value right here and I would be personally shocked if it didn't end in an MVP award.
