Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Positional Breakdown – Wide Receivers
Hey there sports fans! Draft week(s) festivities are finally upon us! On Friday, September 25th we have the Season 25 ISFL Rookie Draft, which is followed up a week later with the Season 25 DSFL Draft. Due to my overflowing excitement over my first ever ISFL Draft, I am going to try and do a write-up of every position group coming into the draft.
In this edition of the positional breakdown of the Season 25 ISFL Draft, we are looking at the position with arguably the best user pool in the draft: Wide Receivers
Position Stats
Active Players*: 7
*To qualify as an active player for this breakdown, the player had to have been updated in the last update of Season 24 – 9/12/2020 in the TPE Tracker
Average TPE: 224
Highest TPE: 244 (Harley Fank)
For all of the talk of the defensive talent in this year’s ISFL draft class, the position with the overall best player base is on the offensive side of the ball. The pool might not be extremely deep in terms of numbers, but no other position has all of its active players over 200 TPE. The only downside for these players is that Wide Receiver is currently one of the deepest position groups in the ISFL, so I don’t really expect too many of these players to get called up immediately. No harm in that however, as maybe having these players back for another season in the DSFL might lead to some more passing records being broken in Season 25.
Before I get too far into these player breakdowns, I want to preface by saying these are all subjective and based on my knowledge of the players. I know that I do not know everyone in the league, their stories, or how active they really are. If I missed any information or got something wrong about a player, feel free to correct me and know it mistakes are not intentional.
The Players
Harley Fank | Norfolk Seawolves | @Beebob
TPE: 244
Season stats: 42 receptions | 408 yards | 4 TD
Not much of a surprise here, but our top earning WR in this class is a recreate. Beebob’s original player, Farley Hank, was a very solid running back during his time in the ISFL, and now Beebob wants to see how he fares as a pass catcher. I have to say, though, that user Beebob is a bit of an enigma. The man is a fantastic earner, and has been around the league since Season 15, but is kind of a ghost on the forums. He has one of the craziest post to thread rations I’ve seen, with over 400 posts but only 5 threads. Regardless, Fank had a very good season in the DSFL and I suspect he will go very high in the draft to a WR-hungry team.
Killian Chambers | Minnesota Grey Ducks | @charlit
TPE: 232
Season stats: 33 receptions | 428 yards | 1 TD
The top earning non-recreate WR in the class, by a fair margin, Chambers looks to become a very sought-after player in this year’s draft. Chambers’ user charlit seems to be more on the quiet side on the forums (I can’t speak to his locker room persona), but he did post a super in-depth DSFL mock draft for his first ever article which was insanely good. I hope to see more of charlit around the forums, but for now I guess I’ll just have to settle for a top earning wide receiver.
Alex Reed | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | @NylarthePhoenix
TPE: 223
Season stats: 44 receptions | 522 yards | 5 TD
Reed is another recreate WR who played Running Back with his first player (sound familiar?). Reed’s user NylarthePhoenix is well known around the league, as he was the co-GM of the Norfolk Seawolves for a brief time. If Alex Reed is anything like his dad/brother/uncle/cousin/whatever Apollo Reed, then whatever team snags him up will be glad to get an established user. Once again, I haven’t had a lot of interaction with Nylar in my time here, but I’m sure he will be a great addition to many ISFL locker rooms.
Zach Crossley | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | @ajtigger
TPE: 222
Season stats: 32 receptions | 312 yards | 6 TD
There must be something in the water in Myrtle Beach (maybe it’s e. coli?) but they’ve got some high-earning WR’s they drafted this past season, and Crossley is another one of them. A max earner who has shown some good activity on the forums, I think user ajtigger is going to end up becoming a well-known face around the ISFL. His weekly (maybe more than weekly?) article the Crossley Chronicles is a great series in which he hypes up his teammates and other players around the league. I think we know that if Crossley’s ISFL career never takes off he definitely has a future as a hype man. Hey, ajtigger, can we hear you bark like DMX?
Owen Holloway | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | @speculadora
TPE: 221
Season stats: 15 receptions | 181 yards | 1 TD
He also did some passing and running and stuff but he doesn’t get to count those stats anymore because of his position switch. Oops.
Before I start talking about the man behind the player, I wanted to spend some time talking about Holloway on the field. The big star of the Season 24 Prospect Bowl, Holloway showed off his athleticism and skills as a Quarterback, as a part of that one team that he did really well for (yeah, I could go research but honestly no one reads these anyways). Coming into the season, a lot of fans were excited to see how Holloway would do at QB for the Bucs.
After the first half of the season, however, it became apparent that Owen Holloway was not happy playing QB and transitioned to his preferred position of Wide Receiver. His switch gave Bucs’ QB Jackie Daytona yet another target in the passing game, and over the final four weeks of the season Daytona was arguably the best QB in the DSFL. I expect Holloway to go fairly high to a WR-needy team.
Now, for his user, speculadora, I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said. Being around since Season 6, spec has been a recognizable face for new and veteran users alike. Spec has even helped me out with some stuff for work, so I have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for him. I highly doubt he falls very far out of the first round due to his reputation around the league.
Mark Callous | Dallas Birddogs | @McCransky
TPE: 218
Season stats: 44 receptions | 505 yards | 1 TD
Yet another high earning WR in this class (seriously this position group is stacked with quality), Callous was a great player for the Birddogs this season. User mccransky hasn’t been the most active person on the forums, only posting two articles so far, but he’s still been able to keep earning TPE with the best of them. He does have a very active and entertaining Twitter however, and I personally love that he’s adopted the persona of WWE legend The Undertaker. Though, if I’m being nitpicky, why did you have to go with the Wild Hogs version of the Undertaker? The 90’s version where he hung out with Paul Bearer and acted like some sort of zombie or something is hands down the better version. Just some food for thought.
Mark Walker | Tijuana Luchadores | @deadlunatic
TPE: 211
Season stats: 29 receptions | 345 yards | 3 TD
Oh hey, finally a wide receiver I can actually wax poetic about, my teammate this year, Mark Walker. Walker the player was sometimes overshadowed on offense, as Tijuana sported a strong running game and had two max WR’s ahead of him for the entire season, but when Walker was given his chances, he made the most of them. With Vequain and Howlett both moving onto the ISFL this upcoming season, Walker is expected to be the focal point of the Luchadores’ passing attack, and I know he is definitely chomping at the bit.
Now, as for the user behind Walker, deadlunatic, I definitely have some information I can share. Walker is an active user both in the Tijuana locker room and on the ISFL forums, where his fourteen threads posted is the most by any non-recreate Wide Receiver in this draft class. He’s also a highly-motivated and extremely friendly user, who has made a positive impact in the Tijuana locker room. He knows he is most likely looking at a send down year in the DSFL next season, and he has no issues with it at all, as he wants to see his player put up some good numbers before moving on.
If you’re a General Manager of an ISFL team that is getting older at Wide Receiver, you should be taking a closer look at Mark Walker.
That brings us to the end of this installment of Pat’s Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Position Breakdown. As you can see, where the Wide Receiver position might lack in raw quantity of available players, it makes up for with quality. A mixture of new and old users alike, whoever snags any of these top WR prospects is going to have a great player for many seasons to come.
