Disclaimer: Since there are some pretty dumb people here (Irishmen) I’ll just say this isn’t a copypasta, I wrote this myself
Hello, it's me, the rookie mentor head here + HO applicant. Today I have a very important message I would like to put out there. Too often I come upon ill feelings and hatred in this league. I think to myself, why are there so many problems in a league made for fun? We are all here for a reason. Most of us came here out of a love for the sport, some came here because they are sim league nerds. The point being, we all came here to have a good time and have fun. Everyone here takes time out of their day, out of their life, and they invest that time in this league, because they want to. They want to help this league grow. They want to see this place do well and flourish. So why do people complain so much and get so angry? If you have that big of a problem with this league, leave. Look back at your time here. Have you said some things that have dampened someone else's day? Have you ever said some nasty things to someone in this league? If so, why? Reflect upon your actions and think to yourself about how you can change that moving forward. We have an amazing head office that does all this stuff for the league for free. Bex is not getting paid to put in hours and hours every week to help this league. She does it out of the kindness of her heart. Now, does this mean she is free of fault? No. Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes. HO has made plenty. GMs have too. I think all of us have said or done something in this league at one point which we wish we could have taken back. That's just human nature. Crticism is helpful to a certain extent. But if you're going to harass someone who's trying to help this league or have fun, this isn't the place to do it. Disclaimer, this isn't directed towards anyone at all. It costs nothing to keep your mouth shut, but it takes time to write out a little message insulting someone else, dampening their mood. I think we, as a league, can do better moving forward to treat each other with the kindess and respect they deserve.
You might be thinking, oh, how ironic. Zamir is telling me to be more kind. Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing. Some people take this league way too seriously, and even propose systems of government for the league to follow.
Crazy, am i right? There are some questionable figures in the league that I won't be naming that have made a lot of mistakes and it is probably for the best that they leave/have left the league. The fact that you have some players leaving the league because of a negative experience with another user, or the fact that some GMs have quit because of treatment from HO/other GMs is just a terrible, terrible look. Imagine taking times out of your day to the best job you can, only to be met with ridicule and hate from others. The amount of veteran users/new ones that have left the main discord is a ridiculous amount because it's a cesspool (except gen chat, that's where the high IQ individuals go). We have players going IA because the first thing they see is people arguing in discord or the forums over silly things. Everyone's holding grudges and forming alliances and it's like fucking Game of Thrones out here. Oh, you don't want to draft this player because they said something mean to you in S13? Darn. Oh, your DSFL GM in s17 didn't care much about the team? Well, shucks, they must be a terrible person. This is the mentality we need to change, and I think that's going to be hard for a lot of people, myself included. Too many times I think to myself, oh god, so and so is chatting, let me leave. Why do I dislike this person? Because they disagreed with me about something on a forum post that no one cares about anyways? That they got into a really heated argument with me when we were both in a very bad mood? That they were a poor GM for my team even though they were going through lots of IRL problems? Live and let live, I say.
The point of this entire thing is to inform people to respect each other a little more. Next time you see that person you don't really like talking in discord, join in on the conversation, and try and move past the differences. Move past your grudges and apologize for things you think you need to do. When HO does an oopsie, try not to be too harsh on them. When the sim team fucks up, try not to call for their heads. When the Dotts team announces that the site may be down for a day or two while they fix it, r-e-l-a-x. We're all trying here, and I don't think we give enough appreciation to some of these folks. Let's all chill out and go back to what we came here to do. Argue about moving dots on a screen.
