Don’t expect me to write anything on football day! That’s why the plan is to publish 2 game reviews today to make up for the one I didn’t do yesterday. My bank account is growing every day, and honestly, at this rate I could probably get to $100 mil before the draft, depending on how well my prop bets go. After going 5/5 on them last week, I decided to sink 5 million into them. If I can have this success multiple times, I could easily get to $100 million by draft time. I’m sure that would boost my draft stock a little, right? Also, does anyone realize how close to Christmas it is? Christmas is next friday!
Enough talking, let’s get straight into the game review. Since this is the 19th game review, I’ll be using a RNG to find out our game, and next game review it will be handpicked. Well, our first number is 10, so that means we’ll be playing in season 10. Next number is 2, so it’s going to be a week 2 game. Ok, next number is 1, so it’ll be the first game of the week, the Baltimore Hawks come to play the Colorado Yeti. Both of these teams are extremely good, and they met up in the playoffs too this season, so they’re quite familiar with each other. Colorado has the home field, but we’ll see how it goes.
Baltimore starts with the opening possession on their own 26 yard line. First play of the game is an 11 yard completion to L’Alto. 2 rushes and 2 passes later, they’re on the Colorado 41 yard line. Strong opening drive, but a dropped pass threatens a punt. But on 3rd and 3, Taylor rushes outside for 11 yards. A chop block penalty + a short pass makes it 3rd and 21. This looks like the end of the drive, and on the play Blocksdale launches it downfield to L’Alto for 28 yards. Later, on a 3rd and 4 at the Colorado 7 yard line, Blocksdale won’t be able to work his magic as Eli Kamaka sacks him and they have to kick a FG. Baltimore scores the first points on a long, 6 and a half minute drive. Unfortunately, Colorado cannot match the same energy, as a dropped screen pass and a 1 yard rush makes it a 3rd and 9. Applehort decides to go for the checkdown, and the offense can only get 2 yards and they have to punt after going 3 and out. Baltimore decides to abandon their strong running game, and they pass 3 times in a row, 2 of which went incomplete. They have to punt back to Colorado. A dropped pass on 2nd and 2 threatens another 3 and out. Applehort found Miller for 12 yards to save the drive, but on a 3rd and 2 on their own 48 yard line, the pass to Aaron falls incomplete, and Baltimore starts on their own 24 yards. A couple of good plays ends up getting put in behind after a sack. After an incomplete pass, it’s 3rd and 16 for Baltimore. Blocksdale looks deep, finds Willie burning his corner, and heaves it deep. Willie catches it and runs for a 59 yard gain. Now they’re set up on the Colorado 4 yard line, and 2 plays later Taylor runs it in for a 4 yard TD. Baltimore goes up 10-0 with under a minute left in the 1st. Colorado goes 3 and out on their next drive, and Baltimore gets the ball right back, to start the 2nd quarter. After a rush for a short gain, Blocksdale throws an interception! Colorado starts with a short field on the Baltimore 26 yard line. They get a lucky break on 2nd and 4 from a Baltimore penalty, and on a 2nd and 10 after, Applehort finds Aaron in the endzone for a 15 yard TD! Colorado is only trailing by 3 points now, 10-7, with 13 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Blocksdale starts out on fire, going 4/4 for 43 to start the drive off. Add in a couple of great rushes by Own Taylor, and this team is already on the Colorado 13 yard line. Blocksdale throws a short screen to Willie for 4 yards, and Taylor runs outside for 9 yards and a TD on the next play. Baltimore regains their 10 point lead and the score stays 17-7 with 9 minutes left in the half. Colorado’s promising drive gets stopped dead in its track after Applehort takes an 11 yard sack by Asipi Jr. A clutch pass breakup by Roenick on a deep ball on 3rd and 17 forces a Colorado punt. Baltimore doesn’t fare much better, and back to back incomplete passes to Willie gives Colorado the ball right back. With 6 minutes left in the quarter they get to work. Applehort woke up feeling dangerous it seems, and he goes 7/7 for 67 yards and a TD! Add in some key rushes from Grau, and that’s how you drive 84 yards in 5 minutes. Colorado make the score respectable going into half, as it’s 17-14, Baltimore on top. But wait, on the next drive, Blocksdale, with 21 seconds left, pulls a fake kneel! And manages to run all the way! Oh wait, Flock catches up to him and trips him up before he can run into the endzone! Blocksdale manages to run 67 yards somehow and almost pulled a miracle.
Colorado opens up the 2nd half with a clutch 3rd and 6 conversion with a 13 yard pass. Applehort passes to Chipmunk, who drops the ball on a wide open first down! Applehort decides to show us why he’s a leader, and decides to run the exact same play, but this time Chipmunk doesn’t drop the ball, and catches a 17 yard gain. Applehort goes back to Chipmunk 2 plays later, but this Willie wisens up and picks off the pass, and a great adjustment by the defense to realize they would abuse that hole in the defense. A good return sets up Colorado on the Baltimore 41 yard line. After a 5 yard rush by Taylor, Blocksdale throws a screen to Browning, who breaks a tackle and uses his blazing speed to run it all the way for a huge 36 yard TD! Baltimore goes up 24-14. Colorado needs something on their next drive, so naturally they go 3 and out after an inaccurate pass thrown by Applehort sails over his receivers head on 3rd and 5. On Baltimore’s first play of the new drive, Blocksdale gets sacked! They punt, and Colorado gets the ball back with 10 minutes left. This is the 5th possession of the half. It looks like it’s going to be another 3 and out after a penalty makes it 3rd and 21. But Applehort goes deep to Miller, who hauls it in for 25 yards. 2 plays later, it’s 3rd and long again, but this time it’s 3rd and 10. Applehort goes eep again for North who goes up and mosses his defender for 37 yards. Now they’re at the Baltimore 9 yard line, and 2 plays later they punch it in for the TD. The score is now 24-21. Colorado keeps getting within 3 points before Baltimore always scores. Let’s see if that trend continues. Browning decides to return the kick, and it was a good decision, as he sets up Baltimore on their own 49 yard line! Taylor rushes for 9 yards up the middle, and then Blocksdale throws back to back passes for 29 yards total, and all of the sudden they’re on the Colorado 13 yard line. 2 rushes later, it’s 3rd and 4, and a pass to Willie in the endzone falls incomplete, and Baltimore has to kick a FG. So now they are only up 27-21. Colorado can score and take the lead with a TD. There’s 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Colorado opens their drive with a sack, and I don’t think that’s what they wanted. They are on their own 3 yard line, and after a deep ball goes incomplete, it’s 3rd and 16. They decide to play it safe and hand the ball off, but that almost becomes a safety, but luckily Grau can get back to the line of scrimmage. They punt and Baltimore starts their drive on their own 37 yard line. A 15 yard pass is the highlight of the drive, and the only play that actually netted them yards. 2 incomplete passes + a 0 yard rush + a sack is a recipe for disaster and Baltimore punts right back to start the 4th quarter off. The drive starts off better than you could imagine, with 4 consecutive complete passes for 32 total yards. They’re already on the Baltimore 36 yard line! But now the Baltimore defense toughens up, and great coverage leads to a sack. On 2nd and 16, Grau runs outside and Willie comes from the side and punches the ball, and Goodson from Baltimore recovers it! Back to back huge defensive plays help stymie Applehort’s passing attack. Baltimore can’t do much either however, and an underthrown pass on 3rd and 3 was lucky to not be intercepted, and Baltimore punts right back to a Colorado team with some momentum. However, a wide open dropped pass that would have gone for a TD kills the momentum. On 3rd and 9 they can only get 4 yards after a great tackle by Marmeladov. They decide to punt back and trust their defense. That was the worst decision of the game. Blocksdale opens with back to back passes for 20 yard total. Then taylor runs it for 6 yards. Blocksdale is on fire, completing another pass, this one for 8 yards and a first down. They’re already on the Colorado 20 yard line. That’s when Colorado’s defense toughens up, not allowing a single yard after that. Baltimore kicks a FG with 7 minutes left. Colorado is down by 9, and they need to score fast. Unfortunately, they must not have heard the fast part, as they take a while to do anything, The drive starts as bad as you could possibly write it, as a sack and incomplete pass make it 3rd and 16. However, Applehort goes deep and passes to North for 25 yards on an out route. Then, with 7 minutes left, at midfield, they decide to run it 4 straight times??? That takes up 3 minutes off the clock, and after a couple of good passes, they run it again, and it almost goes in for a TD, but Grau gets tackled at the 1. Applehort throws it in for a TD on the next play, but there’s only 2 minutes left, and that’s game. Maybe if they didn’t run it 5 times on that final dive they could have had a chance. Taylor closes out the game with 6 consecutive rushes, including a key one on 3rd and 1.
Baltimore wins a head scratcher, 30-28. Colorado’s play calling on that last drive really stunned me.
