In weeks 3 and 4, Ricardo Sandoval was not a world shocking, bone breaking, Quarterback crushing miracle story. The rookie has quickly accepted his fate as a backup for the first few weeks of his career, understanding that he needs to be eased into his role. Sandoval stated, "I’m just going to give Orange County everything I have every day. I just want to get better and be the best possible player I can be. Along with that, I want to win some games. I don’t expect anything else. I am going to bring it every day." Sandoval has not played in either of his first two games in which he was signed with the Otters, and nobody is being harder on him about it than himself, saying, "I have the highest expectations of myself more than anyone else. I always strive to beat those expectations. And like I said, I am going to give all I have every single day to be the best possible player I can be. That’s all I can possibly do. I know if I keep my same work ethic that got me to this point, I will continue to get better every year. And along with that, we’ll have great team success."
Sandoval was nothing short of fantastic in his college career, posting a total of 129 Tackles, 47 of them for loss, with 24 sacks, and 9 Forced Fumbles over a 3-year career. When asked about his potential as a long term player, SDSU Coach Rocky Long explained that "Sandoval is a hard-working, dedicated player, who understands that nothing will come easy for him. But the part that makes him a great player to coach is that he embraces and is GRATEFUL that nothing will come easy for him." His college teammate, Rashad Penny, said, "It's sort of like when you play myCareer in Madden but you don't put it on Instant Starter. That's the kind of player he is. If something is handed to him, and he doesn't have to work to earn it, he'll say 'f*** that' and be on his merry way."
This high praise will hopefully become evident in the latter half of the season in preparation for next year's draft.
