(S32) Ultimus Week

You may claim an affiliate Ultimus Week PT equivalent from any of PBE/SHL/WSBL for the full 10 TPE this season only, as a holiday thank you from your Head Office.

Welcome to Ultimus Week for Season 32! You have ten days to complete the Ultimus Week point task, so the deadline will be Wednesday, December 29nd, 2021 at 11:59PM EST.

Quick Rules:

• You can earn up to a maximum of 10 TPE through any combination of the available Tier 1-3 tasks. Follow the word count rules specified for each tier and keep your submissions on topic.
  
• Articles, graphics, or podcasts that have already been used to get media/graphics money cannot be submitted again for Ultimus Week credit (sorry – no double dipping!).
  
• Podcasts can only be submitted for Tier 1 and 2 written tasks. A podcast must include 20 minutes of discussion for Tier 1 and 10 minutes of discussion for Tier 2 about the selected topic. If you make a podcast with someone else, it must be 20/10 minutes apiece.
  
• As with PTs, graphics must show at least some effort (i.e. edits must be apparent, should be more than just text slapped on an image). Make sure to add any images you used in your graphic so we are aware of what you did.
  

Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (Must be 600+ words)
Choose ONE for 10 TPE.

1. This week will see the S32 Ultimus and Ultimini races begin in earnest. How did each team arrive at the playoffs? Were there any dark horse teams that went unexpectedly far, or any presumptive favorites that fell flat? Who do you think will win the final? If you’re writing this after the finals were decided, were you surprised by the outcome?

2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to?

3. For any team, certain players and users have gone above and beyond, shaping the legacy of the franchise. Choose any ISFL or DSFL team and create a Mount Rushmore for that team. Who in your mind are the four most noteworthy figures of the team’s history? Why does each one of your included figures deserve that recognition, and how did each of them make their mark?

4. “Sim gonna sim” is a popular expression in the league. Write about teams that have been graced by the sim gods and had amazing performances despite statistical odds, and/or about teams that were considered favorites but may have dealt with some bad sim luck that hampered their efforts. How much of an impact did it have on their season(s)?

5. The league has a rich and fascinating history, and our perspectives on it differ from person to person. In 600 words or more, describe any significant moment in ISFL or DSFL history, whether you were around for it or not. Describe the context, the significant members, and the events. What exactly made this event so famous (or infamous) and why does it deserve to be remembered? Events might include championship wins, the inducting of players to the hall of fame, or even a league scandal.

6. Write 600 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 600 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.

Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 300+ words)
Choose up to TWO for 5 TPE each.

7. This task is exclusive to non-recreate rookies of the S33 class and later. In 300 words or more, how has your experience been in the league? Who have you met that has made your time here more fun, friendly, and exciting? Have you been satisfied with your player’s early start? What was it like being drafted for the first time? Do you have any comments or suggestions for the entire league that you think should be implemented?

8. With awards season upon us, make up an award for your player win for something not on the football field?

9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commisioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?

10. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.

11. Write about your team’s biggest rivalry and what makes it so fierce. Is the competition founded in statistics and the team’s recent performance, or is it a rivalry that developed over time during the team’s history that would exist regardless of statistics?

12. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better?

13. Expansion Expansion Expansion! Tell us why you think the league should expand / not expand or include any ideas (in words) for team branding ideas you have or team locations.

14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?

Choose up to FOUR for 2.5 TPE each.

15. Going to Disneyland! Who was the Ultimus Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game)

16. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S33 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season?

17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here.

18. Written option - which teammate of yours is the ultimate team player and why? How does this person exhibit selflessness and put the team first? Are they a great locker room presence who encourages others? Do they play an important but unappreciated role on the team which doesn't receive much recognition for awards? Graphic Option: Create a graphic of your player with your teammate who exhibits a team-friendly attitude.

19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Graphic Option: Create the cover art for your player’s show

20. Make a scouting report for any of the ISFL or DSFL draftees. Show their stats, abilities, TPE, or highlights. Written or graphic option available.

21. Now thats five seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16?

22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do?

23. Create a billboard, magazine cover, unique trading card, or video game cover depicting a one of the league's stars.

24. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did.

25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why?

26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why?

27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why?

28. Choose one existing award. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case.

29. Awards have been a subject of controversy for a while in the league. Tell us your ideas on how awards process can be fixed.

32.  (2,5 tpe) What is your team doing this holiday season to help out the community?

The Honolulu Hahalua will have Cobra Kai doing a bar crawl, for each bar he visits and drinks a Coors Banquet, his teammates will donate a 1000 dollars to a charity of choice. Now we all know how well Cobra Kai (thinks he can) hold his alcohol, but this should atleast be 20k a charity and next to that all of his teammates will have a good laugh at how horrible Kai will feel during the day and the next day as well. He’s a popular target to laugh at on the island and this certainly won’t change here. Charities already confirmed by team members: 

Ray the Manta Ray will help the regional sealife protection center
Miles Weperom will help the local food banks
Eleven Kendrick-Watts will help rid the sea of microwaves and other plastic/metal things
Davriel Lavigne will setup a metal festival for homeless people, so they also can have some enjoyment this time a year.

33. (2,5 tpe) @Kobefromthefrobe  Your team is running Secret Santa, and your player is in charge of getting someone a present. Tell us who you have to get a present for, along with what you get them, and why.

Cobra Kai is confused, he was the last one to put a name out of the secret santa hat, and so far no one got his own name. But the name he pulled out of the secret santa hat was Deffo Not Leroy Leroy, so when he read the name and saw it was Deffo Not Leroy Leroy, he wonder who the heck it was then?  If it wasnt him, who was it. So he spoiled the name asking clarification. You can’t imagine what happened next, but his teammates started to throw all of their beer bottles to his head as once again Kai ruined everything.

The rest didn’t want to draw again, as it already was like the twentieth time, so Deffo Not Leroy Leroy already knows who his not so secret Santa is and he gave Kai instructions on what to buy. The wish list was enormous and Kai had no idea about the 50 dollar limit, so he ended up buying him a cadillac, a jetski and a yearly pass to the fitness club. Leroy Leroy definitly tricked him there.

34 (2,5 tpe) What are some of your player or your team's holiday traditions?

Cobra Kai has a struggling relation with his kid, and no matter how much he tries, he never can do anything right. So his holiday tradition usually involves sitting in a bar, drinking away the night. He keeps trying to break this habit, but everytime he thinks he does something nice for the kid, it backfires in his face. Even when the Hahalua won the Ultimus, he had got his kid tickets, but he was in the opponents section, which ended up being a torture for him. So this year, Kai is once again alone for christmas. Alone atleast family wise, as his drinking buddies will all be there with similar stories, so while the story sounds sad for Cobra Kai, he has his best friend Coors Banquet near him at all times of the day. It’s not like he has to prepare for a playoff game, so drinking away the holidays, seems like the second best option right?

Task 16

My name is WildfireMicro and I have been around sim leagues for at least over a year. I tend to believe that I am an active team player, and that I am usually extremely active on Discord. Trevor Lorenzen is my first QB create in ISFL and I am hoping to use him to bring the DSFL team that chooses me to new heights. I will need some mentoring to help me get used to how to bulk a QB, but I like to think that I am a fast learner. I do want to at least play QB in the DSFL, although I am not against position switching in the ISFL.

 A lot of people here know me well enough, and I get along with most of the people here. I hope that I can be a leader on the team, and that Trevor can bring you an Ultimini or two before his time is up. I'm just looking for a chance to throw the ball.

Task 19

 If there is one thing my new player Trevor Lorenzen is good at, it's being a host for events. So I think the show that he would star in is Trevor's Comedy Hour, and show is where he does stand-up comedy and introduces lesser known comedians to perform and maybe get some more exposure. Every time the show starts, Trevor does a routine where he usually talks about the city the show is in when it is filming. He would also incorporate his football career into it and tell stories about it. After his opening bit, he introduces the first guest performer he has to do a bit of thier own.

 After thier bit, Trevor does a small bit then introduces another performer, and so on and do forth until the show ends. I think Comedy Central would be the perfect network for it, and maybe also a more mainstream network like Fox or CBS. The show would probably be an offseason thing for him however.

Task 29

 My fix for awards is very simple: let the whole league vote in awards instead of a committee. With the committee, there can end up being a lot of bias in there and we never really feel like we all agree on what the winner should be. I am aware that letting it truly be a league vote can cause it's own set of issues, mainly teams stuffing the vote towards a certain player that plays for then. However, I think that maybe limiting the amount of votes every team can have on a player can help a lot with that.

 Also I really think having some kind of user based awards can help too. I know there is already Most Dedicated but I think having awards like Best Overall Media and Best Overall Graphics could help with user engagement. Of course that also creates problems with how to grade certain media and graphics against others but in the end that is unavoidable unfortunately.

16. I'm once again set to be entering the DSFL Draft after having gone through the process not too long ago. A desire to get back into the league after going through a tough personal time has led me to start anew and I think that in terms of what I can offer a team, it's probably best to be honest and say that I'm someone who'll work hard to maximise my TPE earning, be a good presence in the locker room, get involved in team discussions and morale and hopefully be someone that people enjoy having around. I've been through things a few times here so I know what's expected in order to make a really good player and I'm of the view that I can unlock that again this time around. I have zero expectations of being any sort of high pick in the draft, but the team that decides to take a punt on me in one of the later rounds is going to be getting someone who'll work hard and try their best and I think that's all you can ask.

22. Halftime entertainment is always a bit of a tricky issue. Looking at past Super Bowl halftime shows, we've seen that the ones that tend to stay in the memory longest are those that have gone wrong in some way, so striking the line between quality and memorability is probably quite hard to do. The main focus I think would be picking an act with a strong back catalogue of songs with some universal appeal, so for that reason for the Ultimus, I would book a Kanye and Kid Cudi joint performance. Both artists have proven that they not only have an amazing quality of music loved by millions, but are also amazing performers and would keep the crowd interested through the wait for the second half of the match. Both have such strong back catalogues, stretching so far back, that it would be great to be able to see the setlists that they would pick for this kind of performance, and I think they'd do an amazing job of delivering the kind of quality required for the level of occasion.

25. This time around, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to make a player who was based on offense, having gone on the defensive side of the ball with all the players I've had in the league previously since I joined almost four years ago. Wide receiver is a position I've always been interested in, having come very close to making one on my last go around, but ultimately decided to go for linebacker instead. However, if I couldn't go WR I think I would have opted for running back or tight end. Both offer the opportunity to put up points, get involved in things like fantasy in the future too and be an important part of a high scoring offensive unit. Ultimately, they weren't the most popular options to me at the time but I definitely think both would have been solid second options and I'd have been happy to go down that road if the position I opted for had not actually been available.

27. In terms of best branding, I’ve always been a big fan of the Orange County Otters. I think it’s not only a unique name and logo concept, but I love the colours and the way it all ties in together. It’s just really cool, and ever since I joined the league I’ve been a big admirer of the way that the team looks. Controversial but one of the teams that I’ve never loved the branding of is Berlin. I think the logo is really quite cool, but Fire Salamanders as a name just doesn’t work for me due to the length of it, and something about Berlin as a place just doesn’t fit right in my head. This is very much a personal preference kinda thing, as I can see why people love it and I would still be more than happy to be a part of the team at some point in the future.
