In response to @timeconsumer’s rankings of S6, I decided to take it one step farther and delve into S7. I pulled out the old novelty crystal ball I got for Christmas a few years ago and decided to see what the future holds for each team. Reminder: These are for S7, not S5.
1. Philadelphia Liberty
After struggling in S5, and apparently trading their star QB for someone who doesn’t even play QB, they find some help and trade for QB Mike Boss. Yes, the star QB for the team formerly the Otters (more on that later) traded their star QB. Retaining star WR Josh Garden, and with Paul DiMirio, Fox North, and young stud Blessed Storm, they prove to be the deadliest group of receivers ever seen in the NSFL, and with Boss throwing to them, no team can contain them. Add in that the defense largely stays the same, and establishes themselves as the best defense in the league, with the secondary bringing in 30 interceptions. The team that was deadly in S6, winning their first Ultimus, stays just as deadly with the same group of players heading into S7.
2. Yellowknife Wraiths
The Wraiths stay the course, in S6 they see a huge jump in DL play with Tuck returning, and their defense with Carter and Lavelle are able to hold strong as a unit. Their offense loses a lot though, as Bailey Cook walks, and Gosh Jarden has shown no improvement since he changed his name from Ethan Hunt. Eric Kennedy establishes himself as a top RB in S6, but going into S7 he has to carry a lot of the weight as the Wraiths fail to bring any receiving help in for Akselsen. Franklin Harris, a CB turned TE, works well for them, but cannot be a number 1 receiver for them, and the offense struggles as it has to go run heavy to move the chains. Their strong S6 was another season where they were overshadowed by another team, and S7 could see them falling off if they don’t play their cards right.
3. San Jose SaberCats
The premier team in the ASFC comes in at 3 here. After a season where Darren Smallwood rushes for 1400 yards, and Orosz blows the lid off of everyone, until their first ever playoff game, the SaberCats establish themselves as the dominant ASFC team. After a disappointing loss in the ASFC championship they are able to make some big splashes in free agency, as Ricky Maddox stuns everyone and leaves the Wraiths. Then they see another boost as Harrif Ernston leaves the Outlaws and goes to San Jose. These two moves help stabilize the defense, and with an offense that already showed it was capable the team could make a splash in S7.
4. New Orleans Voodoo (formerly the Las Vegas Legion
)
This was a remarkable rebuild by Bovo. The team that was a laughingstock in S5 turns it around after a stellar S6 draft, and then solidify it by landing Bailey Cook, trading for Brice Boggs, and AC Hackett coming to Vegas, before they move to New Orleans. With Ardie Savea rumbling along with a stellar start from their new QB Borkus Maximus, the defense sees massive improvement and is able to put together a season where they make the playoffs, and stun everyone by making the Ultimus, before getting blown out by the Liberty. Why are the reigning ASFC champs 4th? Well they still have a few holes to fill, mainly their secondary still needs some help, and they could still use a DL piece to really solidify themselves as a contender, it remains to be seen whether S6 was a fluke. They addressed their secondary need in this offseason by bringing in Delacour, but it remains to be seen how much he helps the team. The team at the start of S6 moved to New Orleans, and they seemed to ride the wave of that good energy and surprised all.
5. Baltimore Hawkeyes (formerly the hawks
)
I know what you’re thinking, the Hawkeyes? Yes, the Hawks decide to rebrand after struggling to find an identity. They do this going into S7, after a disappointing season, and losing a few pieces to their team that suddenly seems to be mediocre. They are hit hard by free agency, as both of their CBs leave for greener pastures. They also still have yet to find someone to help their DL, and Hendrix is one of the lone bright spots that this team has on defense. Their offense sees Wachter develop into a great WR, but with no answer at TE and Leclair leaving before S6 they have no WR3. The team seems to be decimated and looking to a rebuild at this point.
6. Vegas Vagabonds (formerly the Arizona Outlaws
)
With the Legion leaving and the Legion fanbase rioting (the lone fan broke a parking meter before being arrested) the Outlaws stun everyone and move to Vegas. They see a lot of people buy in to this, as 6 free agents sign with the Vagabonds in the offseason before S7. After struggling in S6 they bring in Darnell Turner, Angus Winchester (yes, he leaves OC), Stephen Harrison, Scrub Kyubee, Blaster Blade, and Chidubem Okonkwo. Add in that Leclair came to the Outlaws in S6 and Budda staying with the team and this team seems to be on the rise, but still has some glaring questions to answer. One such question arises after Bronko suddenly retired, and whether Asipi is ready.
7. Colorado Yeti
I still don’t understand how they stay this bad for this long. The team has not made any splashes in free agency, and actually lose Boss Tweed, and show no improvements besides Pierno, who is able to start establishing himself as a star in S6. Pierno isn’t going to be enough to hold this team up, and they continue to be the laughingstock of the NSFC in S6, and have made no moves to help that position for S7. If something doesn’t change fast this team may need some HO intervention to be fixed.
8. Alaska Avalanche (formerly the Orange County Otters
)
S6 was a disaster, after the GMs decide to step down and allow a new face to take over the franchise, this new GM goes rogue. He completely disregards the puppet master, and trades everything he can, including Mike Boss as soon as he has control. A team has never imploded this fast, and after he trades everything he can, besides Angus Winchester (the beef between the two is insane, and Winchester actually holds out for the season in protest), and we see this guy just decimate the once proud team. His first move was making them the Alaska Avalanche, after they had just won their 2nd Ultimus in S5, he takes the Otters away overnight, and the core of this team is gone. Only a few inactives and a few people who seem to be masochists stay for the ride, and everyone is left to wonder how this could have happened.
