[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Welcome to Sapp’s Mock Draft 1.0. I don’t know if there will be other versions. As we are now past the week 10 deadline for being eligible for the NSFL draft, we can now take a look at all of the prospects and where they might land in the NSFL draft. The Season 9 draft will take place sometime around the 4th of July (most American holiday for those uninformed), but details are still being worked out on what day it will actually happen. With that, let’s get to the mock draft.[b]
Round 1:
1.
[b]Bucky Barnes || S || San Antonio Marshals
“With the First pick in the Season 9 NSFL Draft, the Color… The San Jose Sabercats select… Bucky Barnes, Safety out of Penn State and the San Antonio Marshals!” For the first time in forever, a team besides the Yeti have the first pick, and the Sabercats will try to make a splash by selecting the top rated safety in Bucky Barnes. With his time in San Antonio, Bucky racked up quite the resume. He is the sole leader in interceptions with 7, Tied for second in forced fumbles, tied for first in fumble recoveries, and has 67 tackles. He carried the defense to an 11-3 record and is hoping to win the Ultimini in what looks to be his only DSFL season. The Sabercats need a lot of help as they just stripped their entire team the past 2 seasons and hope to get out of this 1-11 season as fast as possible. Bucky may not be the number one prospect, but he is the one that fits the best with their teams direction.
2.
Kolby Deringer || LB || Kansas City Coyotes
The outlaws needed help in the secondary, but with Bucky Barnes off the board, they must look in other directions, and here is Kolby Deringer. He was an all-around stud for the Coyotes this season, putting up 12 sacks, 2 ints, 3 forced fumbles, and 6 pass deflections. He is loud both on and off the field, but it just pumps his teammates up. Despite experts expecting the Coyotes to have a phenomenal offensive attack, Kolby was able to anchor the defensive side, force a tone of stops, and rank his team #1 in points allowed. If the outlaws are indeed rebuilding, he is the guy they want in the middle of the field.
3.
(Via Yeti)
Kevin Fitzpatrick || QB || San Antonio Marshals
In a trade that saw Eli Kamaka head to the mountains during the Liberty tear down, we get to see the Liberty’s first pick of the draft a little sooner than most were expecting out of a potential playoff contender. They understandably go with a franchise QB who many consider as the top prospect on the board for the season 9 draft. Kevin Fitzpatrick, not to be mistaken for DSFL legend Fitzfatrick, Played well all season if you do not take into account the turnovers. 2nd in TDs, 2nd in Passing yards, 1st in completion percentage, and first in passer rating. With Tyler Oles on the way out via retirement, the Liberty need a QB for next season and the future, but trading for one is not an option at this point in their rebuild. Expect Fitzpatrick to struggle early, but bloom well in his second season.
4.
(Via Liberty)
Declan Harp || TE || Kansas City Coyotes
The Yeti lost a key piece to their offense back in season 7 from a trade (Carlito Crush) and Chipmunk has not been able to fill Crush’s shoes adequately, so to fulfill the position of need, they Yeti will take the top TE prospect of the draft in Declan Harp in hopes that he can fill that need. Declan put up middle of the road numbers receiving in the DSFL, but his presence was felt as a blocker, recording 12 pancakes and helped block for the leading rushing team in the league this past season. If he can do the same for the Yeti in season 9, expect Mark Grau to get some more carries, boosting his fantasy value, and removing pressure from Wheat, Miller, and Aaron in the passing game.
5.
Vinny Valentine || WR || Kansas City Coyotes
Valentine has been pretty quiet this season off the field, but he makes DBs shut up when they face him on the field. One of the more efficient receivers in the league, averaging 13 yards per reception on 48 catches. He is also the 3rd Coyote so far in the mock draft, showing just how good they were this season. With the Coyotes headed to the playoffs and enjoying home field advantage, Vinny is hoping to show the GMs of the league a little more to boost his draft stock into top 2 consideration, but with the Baltimore Hawks getting a little older every year, they are happy to grab this young Wide Receiver here and allow him to develop.
6.
(Via Second Line)
Elijah Lagerfield || RB || Portland Pythons
The Sabercats are the first team to have their second pick in the draft, and after taking the best safety prospect, they are now selecting the best running back prospect. After going the past season with probably the worst running back duo in the league with Riddick and Diaz, The Sabercats are ready to turn a new leaf and give Pennington some help. Elijah is the cousin of star SHL player Flacko Lagerfield, so hopefully the athletic genes run in the family. Elijah did have an outstanding DSFL year, rushing for 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns on a very high efficiency (4.8 ypc), however, Lagerfield did struggle in the receiving game, only catching 21 passes for 150 yards with no trips to the endzone. Hopefully he can continue to be successful as a 1 dimensional back in the NSFL.
7.
Xavier Flash || WR || Tijuana Luchadores
Xavier Flash was one of the best wide receivers in the DSFL this year, and he let everyone know about it. He barely squeaked over the century mark, but was tied for second in touchdowns and lead the league in receptions despite having to live through the ups and downs of a QB battle. The Wraiths have fallen off a bit in terms of passing attack, but Xavier could give the Wraiths the “Flash” that they need to rank back up there with the best of them.
8.
Marquise Brown || RB || San Antonio Marshals
Marquise Brown is the second running back off the board, and just sneaks into the 1st round, being selected by the Orange County Otters. The otters have quite the tandem in the backfield currently, with Yates getting the bulk of the carries and Burnsman vulturing TDs in the redzone. So where does Brown fit in? Well, players get old, and we can see the decline of Burnsman happening sooner rather than later. This is perfect for brown to step up into the lineup. Another year in the DSFL, a year as Yates equal, and then he has the starting position all to himself. Hopefully Brown can continue progressing throughout his career, or else the otters may see another 1st round pick go stagnant in the DSFL before retiring.
Round 2:
9.
Young Spaghetti || DE || Tijuana Luchadores
Young Spaghetti is the first Defensive Lineman to go her in the second round, and it was a good time to select him as there are no more linemen in this draft. So what does Spaghetti bring to the table besides his namesake? 4 sacks, 12 tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble. It’s nothing to sneeze at, but GMs may look to see if it was because of great talent around him that he did not stand out as much as he should, or if he just isn’t ready for the NSFL yet. Either way, a team will take a chance on him, and if I had to place money on it, it would be sooner in the draft rather than later.
10.
Oskar Ludvig || CB || San Antonio Marshals
The first true corner comes off the board at #10 and the Outlaws get the defensive back they were looking for. Right now, CBs are at a premium in the league, so when you can secure a decent cornerback prospect, let alone a top talent like Ludvig, you take him early, which the Outlaws were fortune to do her at #10. He will join Darren Morris and Allen Davis in the secondary and help rebuild the team back to their S1-S3 selves. He was able to snag 6 interceptions and bat down 13 passes for the marshals this year, and hopefully will ride this success to an Ultimini win this upcoming week, and carry his play to the NSFL.
11.
(Via Yeti)
Jesse Marchand || LB || San Antonio Marshals
The 5th Marshal comes off the board at #11 for the Sabercats through Jesse Marchand. He also beat his brother in who got to be drafted first into the NSFL. Marchand was the league leader in tackles this past year and also grabbed 1 TFL, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Recovery, 6 sacks, and interception, and 3 pass deflections. Quite the resume for someone falling to the middle of the second round, but this is a great pick up for the hawks who are hoping to keep getting younger players who are ready to step it up in the NSFL. The Sabercats continue to work on their rebuild and are spreading their assets out well to all positions. Everyone better remember the name Barnaby, because he has a chance at being a top rookie in the NSFL. Jesse can be a part of the rebuild right away and can be a true centerpiece if he continues to grind and make an impact both on and off the field for the Sabercats.
12.
Alexandre Thibault || S || Portland Pythons
Hailing from Montreal, Alexandre Thibault struggled as a hybrid CB/S in the DSFL, but showed flashes of greatness. He was overshadowed by others on the team, but held his own out there. This guy is definitely a project player, but with the Liberty seemingly rebuilding, it will give him some extra time with the first team and reps on the field, which are invaluable to young talent. Speaking of training, Alexandre has started a new business in the Portland area to rake in some more money by creating a Human/Dog Ironman training facility where he gets both the owner and pet in tip top shape to compete for Ironman Triathlons. His dog Marvin Spike Hinklebottoms Camden George Wilson Jr. is the top of his class and hopes to show his support at whatever dog-friendly stadium Alexandre plays at next.
13.
Barnaby Earl|| LB || Portland Pythons
To be quite honest, I had no idea who this guy was, and now that I’ve looked at his stats, I don’t understand why I didn’t hear about him earlier. He has been a beast; 3rd in tackles, top 10 in sacks, and also racked up 7 pass deflections. He has yet to get his hands on a ball (aside from a forced fumble), but it might not be necessary if he can continue to make an impact like he has on the defensive side of the ball. With the Hawks focused on being championship contenders this season, but just barely squeaking into the playoffs, they are ready to show the league that it was just a fluke season and be ready to hoist the trophy for the first time in franchise history either this season or in season 9.
14.
(Via Second Line)
Zapp Brannigan || TE || Tijuana Luchadores
THE most handsome player is drafted here at #14 overall to the San Jose Sabercats. Some say that he is a mix between Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, and William Shatner himself. Hailing from Nimbus University, Zapp Brannigan was the 2nd best Tight End this season in the DSFL, and will go to help Brad Pennington in San Jose, who needs as many weapons as he can get at this point. 400+ yards is good for any tight end, and hopefully he can continue to put up good numbers in the Pros.
15.
Ricky Adams || RB || Tijuana Luchadores
The Wraiths continue taking Running backs as that is what they like to draft and they do it well. They took a similar stab at Borro Gore in the Season 6 draft, but he has yet to live up to his potential in the league, serving another year and a half in the DSFL before being called up to the NSFL out of necessity. Adams would be a great guy to add to the wraiths as an all purpose back, being able to line up in just about every position on offense aside from QB, either making an impact carrying the ball, blocking for Rainey, or Catching passes from Akeleson.
16.
Gus T.T. Showbiz || QB || Kansas City Coyotes
This pick may end up being the Yeti’s pick if the Otters end up winning the Ultimus, therefore drafting in the 8th and 16th positions. If they do not win the Ultimus, they retain their pick, and they will no doubt draft Gus T.T. Showbiz here if he ends up falling this far in the draft. He is rated as a top 5 prospect, but due to the needs of each team, he may make it all the way to the end of the 2nd round, and may fall farther if teams decide to play chicken on who takes him first. Showbiz showed out during his DSFL season and played quite well (much better than Fitzpatrick), but teams are concerned that his play wont translate to the NSFL and he just doesn’t show the upside that Fitzpatrick does. He has quite the QB IQ, but his arm strength is lacking. We will watch these two quarterbacks (and others in this draft) closely as they progress in their careers.
Round 3:
17.
Blake Marchand || WR || San Antonio Marshals
Unlike with the Penningtons, it looks like the Sabercats might be able to keep the brothers together if everything goes right for them. The Sabercats need to make sure there is no infighting, but Brad being the Veteran presecence on the team this upcoming season and knowing a thing or two about brothers, should be able to handle this situation well. Marchand was the third fiddle with the Marshals behind Catcherman and Turner, and will be in a similar situation if he ends up with the Sabercats behind Weston and Jackson, however, I see Marchand taking over much sooner rather than later as both of those guys are getting up there in seasons played. If he continues to work hard, He will be a great piece for the young Pennington to work with in future years.
18.
LaMarcus Strike || RB || Kansas City Coyotes
LaMarcus Strike, Related to the DSFL Legend Mark Strike, showed out in the DSFL and was a true workhorse for the Coyotes, racking up 331 carries, which was most for any back in the DSFL this season. Sure, he wasn’t the most efficient, and he didn’t see the endzone as many times as him and the Coyotes would have hoped, but he was a stable force for their offense. With the Coyotes heading to the playoffs, they hope that Strike can continue to lead them as he has this season. The Outlaws could use a young runningback to take some pressure off of Mackworthy, but he just had a career season, so anything could happen.
19.
(Via Hawks)
Shadarrien LaMellana || WR || San Antonio Marshals
With the Sabercats 7th pick of the draft here at #19, they bring in another Wide Receiver from the third round. As long as Shadarrien doesn’t retire early, I can see him potentially having quite the long career with the Sabercats. He was injured for most of the season and only recorded 2 receptions, but a lot of GMs like how he is built, but he is also a very raw prospect. He will need to work with the team, but he has a chance to be a top WR in this league.
20.
(From Yeti)
Kyle Corbett || K || Tijuana Luchadores
The Liberty need to move on from Stephen Harris, and Corbett is the best option for them. Despite them drafting Beat Meoff in the last draft, they need to take an active player, and he is the best one available. The liberty could become the first team to have a dedicated Kicker AND punter on their team. This will allow them to rest their leagues and have longer careers. They also have the option of trading one of them, but that is a different article. Corbett impressed this season in the DSFL, kicking the highest XP percentage and the second highest FG percentage. He was also one of only 2 kickers to hit a 50 yard field goal in the DSFL and went an impressive 14/14 beyond 40 yards this season. However, he was the worst punter in the DSFL this year, so expect him to hedge more towards a kicker rather than a punter in the NSFL.
21.
Tyler Griffin || LB || Tijuana Luchadores
The Liberty get another pick here, this time their own, and they decide to bolster the Defense once again with the selection of Tyler Griffin from the Luchadores. Griffin was a top 5 tackler in the DSFL and also put up good stats across the board, with 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 6 pass deflections. The Liberty are getting old on defense, so by fulfilling this need, they are one step closer to competing in the NSFL again.
22.
(Via Second Line)
Jai Turner || WR || San Antonio Marshals
The Sabercats take their third consecutive WR in this season’s third round with the selection of Jai Turner. Turner, despite outplaying LaMellana and his own teammate Marchand, GMs were unsure of how active he will be in the NSFL, and he dropped down the boards due to this. But if the Sabercats can get him back, he will be a huge addition to their team.
23.
(Via Wraiths)
Alsan Arshad || WR || Kansas City Coyotes
Alsan is the fourth WR in the third round, and put up decent numbers in the DSFL, but GMs did not see much improvement from him late in the season. Arshad was at the lower end of the Coyotes Depth chart, but made an impact every time that he touched the ball, recording 3 touchdowns and 229 yards on 24 receptions over the season.
24.
Emilio Ramero || K || San Antonio Marshals
The otters will need a replacement at kicker at somepoint, and Emilio Ramero is the guy to take over from the infamous Brad Madlad. Emilio is the younger brother of Rickey Ramero, who his a candidate for Rookie of the Year as a Linebacker for the Colorado Yeti. If there is a chance at finding an active player at this point in the draft, it would be Emilio. Emilio by far had the greatest volume of kicks, but he struggled with his accuracy, missing 7 field goals and all three from beyond 50 yards. He was a much better punter, leading the DSFL in yards per punt and the second longest punt of the season.
Round 4:
For round 4, I will not have anything written for each player. If these players bump up their activity level, I will definitely note that in the next mock draft, but for now, continue increasing that activity level, and good luck in the draft. Prove me wrong!
25.
Daquan Richardson || CB || Tijuana Luchadores
26.
Andres Metaxas || QB || Tijuana Luchadores
27.
Robert Jordan || LB || Portland Pythons
28.
(Via Liberty)
Deion Jackson || WR || Portland Pythons
29.
(Via Hawks)
Ricardo Jones || WR || Tijuana Luchadores
30.
(Via Second Line)
Fin Jameson || LB || Tijuana Luchadores
31.
Josh Springfield || S || Kansas City Coyotes
32.
Deangelo Warren || WR || Kansas City Coyotes

Round 1:

23.
