Hi guys! I enjoyed doing my fan review of the NSFL games for week one, so i thought I'd put together another little bit for weeks two and three if only for my own amusement!
@
35-3, Butchers win. Both of these teams had disappointing week one losses and I was curious to see which would recover first. The Butchers were the obvious choice and some times the obvious choice is what you should go with. Chicago dominated this game from the word go and it never got closer than that.387 yards to 243 is the only stat line you really need to look at to understand the difference between these two teams. McDummy throwing up two interceptions was just icing on the cake for a Butchers team that was dominant on both sides of the ball. This game made it clear that the Yeti need help and they need it fast. For the Butchers, they got to see first year starter Sam Torenson put up his first of what they hope will be many solid games. 117 yards, 5.6 yards per carry, and a score is a line Torenson will be able to brag about.

20-33, Hawks win. I think there were a lot of people that thought the runner up to the Ultimus was going to win this one. In the first quarter, it looked like those people would be completely correct. Off the back of two Corvo Havran interceptions, the Liberty went up 14-0 and it looked like they were prepared to roll through this one. Havran went 5 of 11 for 52 yards and two turnovers in the first quarter. Then as the second quarter began, it was like a light switched on and Havran decided he didn't want to lose. In the next three quarters, this man put up a 23 for 35, 340 yards, 4 touchdown, only one turnover performance that wowed everyone present. He almost single handed put the Hawks the hole, but then put on an absurd display of heroics to bring them back. Once Havran was on, this game was never close again. Philadelphia can't afford to give games like this up if they want to make a repeat appearance to the title game.

16-21, Otters win. Look at this game, it looked like the Otters were due a loss. They lost a competitive game in week one due to a faltering defense and none of their stars stepping up. Meanwhile the Wraiths put on a pretty dominant offensive show in route to a win. On paper, it looked like the Wraiths might have been the favorite here. Then two things happened. The Otters defense completely smothered the Wraiths, holding them to only 236 total yards and a guy named Johnny Blaze showed up to play. After a disappointing week one, Blaze came in and reminded the league why he was considered one of the most versatile players in the league. He lined up all over the field to create mismatches and ultimately caught 11 balls for 117 yards. If the Otters continue to play good defense and their stars start popping up more often, they could make a legitimate run this season.

17-30, Copperheads win. In what will be unquestionably the biggest upset of the year, the floundering Austin Copperheads knocked down our reigning champions in a game in which Arizona never once had a lead. This game was an incredibly dominant display by Austin in which they actually led the Copperheads in every single statistical category. First downs, conversions, yards, turnovers, time of possession, and more. Austin put out the same kind of performance as they did in week once against New Orleans, but this time they were able to combine statistical dominance with points. Sophomore quarterback Easton Cole quietly had one of the best games of the year for a quarterback, putting up a 126.2 quarterback rating in a game where he was accurate and efficient and kept the ball safe from a desperate Arizona defense. if the Copperheads can keep putting it together, they may be a force to fear in the near future.

19-13, Sabercats win. This game was likely closer than it had any right to be. The Second Line seem to be setting a pattern of being dominated statically while still winning or at least keeping games close. San Jose had more third down conversions, almost 100 more yards, and they dominated time of possession almost two to one and yet New Orleans managed to take this game into overtime. Its hard to quite grasp what New Orleans is doing right to stay competitive in these games, but they do have one obvious thing going for them. Forrest Gump. Gump had an incredible day with his 167 all purpose yards and a score. He kept New Orleans in this game throughout by not only gaining half of the entire team's yardage but also more than half of their points as well. Meanwhile on the other side, it took a masterful performance by Joliet L. Christ to pull this one out for San Jose. He completed 63% of his passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns despite being under fire all game. He took three sacks, but he found himself pressure even more than that. He was a warrior on the field and will have to continue to carry this offense in spite of San Jose's struggling rushing attack.

17-27 After this game, all I could find myself thinking is that Philadelphia is in some real trouble. The Liberty are fighting with the Yeti in a competition to see who is the worst offense in the NSFL and that was on display in full effect against a San Jose team that doubled their total yardage. This team can't move the ball, they can't run the clock, and they have no answers. They rank dead last in rushing and Falconi is struggling to do it all herself in what has started off as a disappointing season for the star quarterback. There wasn't a lot of good to take away for Philadelphia. Jordan von Matt seems to be bouncing back a bit with his five catches for 80 yards and defensive end Luke Smyles is starting to produce some real backfield pressure, but that is really all I can take from this. Meanwhile for San Jose, their defense was incredible in this one. Trey Staley was everywhere with his nine tackles, four pass defenses, and an interception and Chad Pennington showed that age is just a number with his four tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a sack. Offensively, Joliet L. Christ put on a show for the second week in a row and is making a hard run for being the best quarterback in the NSFL. The SaberCats look like they are really starting to come together.

20-40, Hawks win. Corvo Havran went off in this game, playing near perfect with a four touchdown, zero interception game. Dorfus Jimbo showed absolute dominance on the ground, racking up 160 yards with a 6.7 yard per touch average. Defensively they held the Yeti to 209 yards, got four sacks, and kept the pressure on all game long, forcing McDummy into what may have been his worst performance of the season. As a unit, those guys all put up numbers and it would be difficult to name just one when you have this kind of performance. Unfortunately for Colorado, when the Hawks show up like this, there can only be one result. If they can clean up their turnovers, Baltimore may be looking at having the best team in the NSFL going forward.

20-9, Wraiths win. Coming in, I thought this was going to be game of the week. You had two of the best teams from last season matching up in what should have been an explosive match. The game was somehow lackluster and disappointing in every way. Big penalties, costly turnovers, and sloppy quarterback play across the board. 17 of 40 for Bigsby and 18 of 34 for Jenkins were not encouraging numbers for either quarterback as they both struggled around 50% completion rating. This game was never really close, which was surprising considering Chicago actually moved the ball better than the Wraiths in this game. Rookie Sam Torenson had another solid game for the Butchers as he racked up 123 yards on the day. He and Lightsout Lewis were the only highlights for Chicago as Lewis led the team with 10 tackles and five pass defenses. Ultimately, neither player could overcome the mistakes made by Rose Jenkins who actually hand fed Johnny Snuggles a defensive touchdown in the first quarter that gave Yellowknife a lead they never let go of.

20-34, Outlaws win. I would like to say that New Orleans played this game close and according to the scoreboard, they did through three quarters. When you look closer, you realize the game was only ever close because Reese have New Orleans both of their touchdowns off the back of costly interceptions that made this game far more interesting than it should have been. Reese struggled all day long, only managing a 50% completion rating and his numbers should have looked far worse as he threw into coverage all day. He gave up 11 pass defenses in this game, which I think might be the most of any quarterback this season. He was bailed out by his play makers though as they showed off when he did get the ball to them. This was most apparent in Vinny Valentine who caught four balls for 153 yards and a touchdown. His 38.2 yards per catch were monumental in making this game look good for Reese. The highlight for New Orleans was their secondary who was at least able to capitalize on what Reese was giving them. The Outlaws got away with one here and had New Orleans been a better team, this would have been a loss. If they want to repeat this season, they're going to have to clean up games like this one.

13-43, Otters win. Everyone likes an underdog story and after two weeks, it was hard not to want to start cheering for Austin. They had a controversial game against New Orleans that was much closer than it appeared and followed it up by upsetting the Ultimus champions. The excitement was building for this squad and then in comes Orange County to remind everyone of reality. This was arguably the most one sided scoreline of the season so far as it felt like the Otters offense simply could not be stopped. 128 all purpose yards and a score for Apollo Reed set the tone. Then the bass dropped and first year starter Franklin Armstrong completed 30 of 48 passes for 291 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions as he showed for perhaps the first time this season that he is capable of filling the shoes of former Orange County quarterback Gus T.T. Showbiz. Another first year player in Hugh Mongo and Otters superstar Johnny Blaze opened doors for Armstrong as they combined for 11 catches, 113 yards, and four touchdowns. Any time Austin seemed to quiet one, the other would score as they took turns making this defense look silly in the red zone. The only good thing to come from this game for the Copperheads was Ashley Owens had another game over 100 all purpose yards. The rookie is starting to develop and is a sign of what is coming in the future for Austin. In the present though, Orange County didn't struggle at all when reminding us who is developing and who is trying to stay at the top of the league.
I'm enjoying doing these reviews, guys! I have always loved talking football and I usually try to take in every NFL game possible. I'll talk games with anyone who is willing to listen, which often times is just myself!
Jokes aside, I appreciate you guys giving me a platform to talk football on and I'm looking forward to keeping it going. Hope you guys enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed writing it!
