Draft Night, an exciting, life changing night for NSFL prospects all over the message boards. Some sat all day staring at the NSFL youtube channel, some had to have veterans talk them off the cliff and assure them that they had nothing to worry about. Some….might’ve forgotten that the draft was that day. That would be the 14th rounders. This round has been hotly debated by the GM’s and players alike, and may go down as one of the most talent packed rounds in DSFL history. So, let’s look back at some pre-season spooky ghosts, or those that went under the radar due to always lurking.
PICK #79: Ty Palmatier, LB,
KCC.
Ty is a close, dear dear friend of mine from another realm. He currently sits at 57 TPE, and has yet to register a stat. This is still elite for the 14th round. Even though he hasn’t been doing much on game day, I have heard that he’s been great on the practice squad, giving KC great looks week in and week out. Nothing to turn your nose up at, and could some day return to his update sheet, and end up an all-time great linebacker, leading a lucky NSFL team to an ultimus some day.
PICK #80: Jz, S,
NOR.
Jz is another friend of mine from a certain number based baseball league. He sits a little bit lower than Ty, at just 50 TPE. This is nothing to fret about, as he is still right around the average TPE from the rest of the 14th rounders. He has been an absolute monster on the field, notching 36 tackles in the 1st 4 games. His nose for the ball has been absolutely unreal, and although he doesn’t appear to be the most athletic player in the world, he just gets the job done. His nose for the ball doesn’t stop with tackles, though, as he’s also made a great pass deflection, showing that he can hang with the best Wide Receivers in the league in the defensive backfield.
PICK #81: Colbourne Frost, K,
POR
I don’t know if there was some funny business behind the scenes here, but this fella right here is another one of my dear, dear friends. Coulburne is yet another 50 TPE’er from the round 14’ers. Don’t let his stats deceive you, as he’s been quite possibly the most impactful player from the illustrious round. He’s currently 4/4 from the extra point spot, tied for the highest percentage in the league (100%). On top of his elite chip shots, he’s also been an all-star level placekicker. Currently 6 for 7, he’s hitting at a monstrous 85.7! This kid had 80 picks before him, and he’s one of the top scoring players in the league! Colbourne is on a fast track to the hall of fame with those numbers, and may bring the 14th round legacy even further.
PICK #82: Rotticus Scott, DB,
MBB
Back to back to back to BACK studs here for the 14th rounders, as Scott has shown quite a bit of promise for the Buccaneers. He currently sits at a whopping 105 TPE, and has shown no signs of stopping his hard work (he’s writing this article right now). He’s notched a starting spot for the Beaches, and racked up 14 tackles and a forced fumble! We will have to see how he moves from here, and might be another round 14er that keeps the tradition strong throughout his career.
PICK #83: Matt Meagher, RB,
TIJ? This round just won’t quit. Meagher has been killing it for the Luchadores. Sitting at a monstrous 57 TPE, he’s nearly leading the pack in the work he’s done to craft his back. He’s averaging an unreal 3.4 YPC, and managed a rumbling, bumbling, stumbling 9 yard run to push Tijuana to a 1st down. On top of his yardage, he’s notched two touchdowns, showing that he might be a red zone threat for years to come in this league. I hope to see Meagher get some more touches going forward, and show his true star power being a round 14’er.
PICK #84: Bubba Twatford, LB,
MGD
Bubba closed out round 14, but he might be the one that closes out our hall of fame pedigree. He sits at 94 TPE, showing some unreal work ethic after getting picked this late in the draft. He isn’t just a combine warrior, though, as he’s made a real difference on the Grey Ducks defense. Being compared to the likes of Demarcus Ware and Dont'a Hightower, he's put up some big time stats so far. Notching an unreal 16 tackles, with 2 sacks mixed in there, he’s shown GM’s around the DSFL that the 14th round will always produce some elite talent in the league.
With all this talent, how did the 14th round not turn into the 1st or 2nd? Well, it might just be because there are always diamonds in the rough, folks. The 14th rounders laid low, because they knew they wouldn’t be doing the flashy things like scoring touchdowns, getting interceptions, or doing activity checks. So let this be known, even though TPE can make a good player, it can’t make a great spirit.
