Outlaws Hire Co-GM C.A. Chess
Not even last season's Ultimus winners are taking a break as there are always improvements to be made. There's a new office opening up in the Outlaws facility for recently hired Co-GM C.A. Chess. While he may be new to the paperwork, Chess has made himself familiar around camp as an up-and-coming wide out, alongside fellow rookie, Dustin Evans. The move is sure to add perspective and solid insight into an already highly regarded front office for Arizona.
According hat we've been able to garner from the buzz around the locker room, the players are nothing short of ecstatic to see the newcomer stepping up and taking the reigns next to current GM, Dwyer. That shouldn't come as a surprise though. A fresh look is always welcome in a position that can sometimes feel overwhelming and the players are well aware.
Dustin Evans speaks up about . . . not speaking up?
In the age of Odell Beckham and Lavar Ball hogging all the screen time, it's easy to get swept up in the sensationalism of big talk, bigger expectation athletes. What's not to love, though? It's exciting, it's dramatic, and occasionally comical, but sometimes it can feel tired.
"I just shake my head now, that's all I got," Evans said. "I mean, we all grow up wanting to play like Jerry Rice or Ed Reed, but we also want to see our face on the TVs we pass in Best Buy. It natural, so I get it, don't get me wrong, but it's just outrageous how every other guy out there feels disrespected when they're not drafted first overall, or don't land a record breaking contract," Evans continued. "Relax, enjoy your time in the league, let the success follow your grind instead of showing up claiming to be the next big thing and throwing a fit when you get asked to prove it."
Bronko: Problem or not?
There's been talk around the league amongst opposing teams and the Outlaws alike about King Bronko's slow start to the season. Often enough, the entire offense is blamed, however, the concentration of criticism seems to fall on Bronko himself. Throwing the second highest amount of passes in the league (79), just one behind Berovici (who is the only quarterback with more interceptions), could very well have something to do with his higher pick count (3), though, the fact remains that he's still only playing at a QB rating of 64.5, which puts him in fifth place.
After only two regular season games, though, perhaps critics are jumping the gun here. After all, Bronko is still getting used to his position change and building chemistry with his number two and three wide receivers who are season two rookies. On top of that, his (albeit successful) number one wide out, Mayran Jackson, is new to the position as well. While you might not be able to tell from the stat sheet alone, there are mistakes to be made by the receivers while they all get used to the playbook and running crisper, cleaner routes to put Bronko in a better position to deliver the ball successfully.
I'm going to go ahead and say that for now, we should take a step back give Bronko and his receivers another week before we start to jump on the worry train straight to Mark Strike town.
Tonight Bronko will have a chance to really fluff those stats when facing off against the Legion in Las Vegas who have the seventh rated defense in the NSFL. Following their game against the Legion they'll be traveling to Colorado where he'll be faced with a very average defense thus far in the Yeti. Overall, if things fall right for King tonight, he could very well emerge from the smoke with no rumors at his back.
