The -eau being at the end of many french names was custom for Cajuns. For those who could not read or write english on their own, documents would be signed with the "X." Creating this eau-x at the end of names.
I don't like celebrating the ignorance of my ancestors. That's just me. It's become something else now entirely and I can understand the slogan "Geaux" ____
Also, the ending of french words make no sense 99% of the time. I was taught that a lot of useless letters, like the x or the l or the t that are silent and therefore add nothing to the word were made popular by monks who recopied texts and were paid by the letter.
