As the DSFL draft dust settles, there are great expectations for highly drafted players. Wolverine Justice was the first player off the board. The pressure is always on for QBs selected first overall. We have seen many crumble under the pressure, but only time will tell just how Justice will perform. This draft also included the Marshals tipping their hand and selecting a staggering amount of defensive players. The combo of John Wachter and Carlito Crush is sure to wreak havoc on many defenses this year no matter who is slinging the ball to them. This DSFL season is sure to be an exciting one with many ups and downs for all the teams involved. Let's jump into a team by team analysis of all these exciting teams.
Chicago Blues
Draft Picks
1.6: Fresh Booter WR
2.5: Tegan Atwell CB
3.6: Peg Leg K/P
4.6: Dustin Atkins WR
5.5: Jackie Jordan CB
5.6: Eric Forman CB
6.6: David Turner RB
Returning Players
LB: Matt Edilio
K/P: Stephon Simpson
CB: Artist Boogie
The Chicago Blues were not shy about bolstering their secondary with the acquisition of 3 DBs. It still remains to be seen just how well Eric Forman will be able to play this year despite having to play with Red's foot in his ass. They shored up any possible kicking woes by taking a kicker in round 3 in Peg Leg. Fresh Booter and Dustin Atkins are sure to give opposing defenses fits once they get going this year as well. David Turner will also do his best to give this team a 1-2 passing-running attack to complement these wide receivers. Matt Edilio LB will do his best to captain this team. As the only user controlled front seven player it will be one tall task for him to contain the rushing attack of opposing teams. This may be a large weakness of the Blues this year, even though their passing defense may be top notch with these draft picks to pair along with Artist Boogie CB. Stephon Simpson K/P and Peg Leg will split punting and kicking duties this season for the time being. The biggest strengths of this team will be their passing defense and kicking. The biggest weakness will be their rushing defense. On the offensive side I expect them to be average to above average with a solid balanced attack through the air and on the ground.
Kansas City Coyotes

Draft Picks
1.4: Andre Bly Jr. CB
4.4: Jacob Lattimore S
5.4: Victor Ball WR
6.4: LaMarcus Mills CB
7.4: Ray Riemann OL
Returning Players
S: Mitch Maslin
TE: Ben Hartsock
RB: Jovan Grujicic
DE: Sal Ifedemi
Kansas City managed a nice balanced draft despite not having their second and third round picks. Taking Andre Bly Jr. is sure to give them a much stronger secondary. Taken with the fourth pick in the draft Bly Jr. will be responsible for covering some of the best receivers that DFSL has to offer. With his high speed, he should be able to effectively contain any burners he comes up against. Joining him in the secondary through the draft will be a safety, Jacob Lattimore and another CB, LaMarcus Mills. Jacob Lattimore also offers some solid speed to complement a nasty secondary. Mills has the hands to make the ball hawking, game changing plays that just may turn the tides of the Coyotes season at some point. Sal Ifedemi will do his best to put the pressure on opposing QBs quick with his 70 speed, and hurry some passes into the ball hawks on this team. On the offensive side, Victor Ball, the sure handed WR out of The U, will give this team a chain mover and redzone threat. With an average amount of speed, he most likely won’t be beating defenses deep, but he will make those tough grabs over the middle as a great safety valve for his QB. Ray Riemann OL is going to do his best to clear way for his RB and give his QB time to make the correct reads and move the ball. With a nice balance of run and pass blocking and the strength to back it up, Riemann will be a solid contributor to this offense. Behind him, Grujicic RB, is going to be a swiss army knife for this offense. With the hands for the safe check downs, the speed to find the hole in time, and the agility to change direction, Grujicic is in line for a solid year. While doing nothing great, Grujicic is still able to do everything good. This versatility will keep defenses on their toes. The strength of this team lies in their ball hawking secondary and versatile offense. The biggest weakness is the suspect run defense.
Portland Pythons

Draft Picks
1.2: John Wachter WR
2.2: Carlito Crush TE
4.5: Cameron Taylor S
6.2: Jakob Andrews CB
7.2: Boston Ooty CB
Returning Players
None
This draft saw the Pythons select two offensive weapons in the first round in Carlito Crush and John Wachter. Wachter WR has the hands to make great catches while possessing good speed. Early indications point towards one of the strongest possession receivers in DSFL. Carlito Crush TE is a player with enough hands and speed to make defenses account for him, but the blocking ability to open up some plays in the run game. Cameron Taylor S has the speed and hands to make big plays on the defensive side. This will be a player to watch this year as a later round draft pick. Joining him in the secondary are a pair of CBs. Jakob Andrews is the first of which that has enough speed and agility to keep up with most receivers. Boston Ooty is another CB with a similar build to Andrews. These two should be able to make it tough on opposing defenses in the air. With no returning players, it remains to be seen just how much that the pythons can get out of their draft picks. The secondary and passing game will be strengths of this team, but in the trenches this team may struggle mightily.
Norfolk Seawolves

Draft Picks
1.1: Wolverine Justice QB
2.3: Luke Kraken LB
2.4: Kenny Omega WR
3.3: Jett Winters OL
3.4: Conall O’Sullivan RB
5.1: Tanner Hendrix CB
6.3: Nathan Clearwater S
7.3: John Mueller K/P
Returning Players
CB Kiko Bakari
LB Rick Sanchez
The Seawolves come into this year with a very dangerous offense lead by the highly touted QB out of the Nevada State Penal League. An accurate pocket passer, Justice is sure to make opposing defenses pay with pinpoint accuracy. Will he go the way of draft busts, such as Ryan Leaf, or go on to live up to his high draft status? The Seaswolves cannot wait to see what they got in this kid. His top target this year will be the WR Kenny Omega. Omega projects as an elite route runner with the speed for yards after the catch and sure hands. With Justice slinging the ball his way, I project Omega as having one of the biggest years out of all of the WRs in DSFL. Tasked with keeping the QB upright is Jett Winters. Winters has a nice balance of pass and run blocking ability that will be a great asset as the Seawolves have the running back to keep defenses from focusing on the pass. Conall O’Sullivan, the RB out of BYU, while not allowed to score with the ladies at this religious institution managed to score plenty of touchdowns. With good speed and great hands for a RB, he poses a big threat to opposing defenses. John Mueller was drafted to ensure that drives end in points behind this great offense, whether it be a field goal or PAT. The defense will be led by a pair of LBs. Rick Sanchez is taking a break from his inventions and terrorizing the multiverse to punish opposing QBs. Sanchez is a threat to sack the QB on any play. Kraken has the speed, strength, and tackling ability to make plays all over the field. Kraken should be in line to make a large amount of tackles this year. Leading the secondary is the CB Tanner Hendrix. Hendrix is fast enough to be in position and has the hands to make the plays. Hendrix has hands that are on par with a lot of receivers and should dissuade QBs from picking on him in coverage. Kiko Bakari CB is sure to match up with the opposing teams fastest receivers. With 80 speed, Bakari will be everywhere to break up passes. With respectable tackling ability, Bakari should be able to help in run defense as well. Nathan Clearwater S has the hands and agility to be in position for a lot of plays this year. His speed may make him a burnable safety however. Clearwater will be able to provide a lot of help in the run game to compensate for this. The Seawolves look to have the strongest offense in the DSFL this season. Only time will tell if this is true at the end of the year though.
San Antonio Marshals

Draft Picks
1.5: Bastion Barnhardt DE
2.6: Luis Elmarez LB
3.2: Gregory Fletcher CB
3.5: Darren Morris S
4.2: Ben Urlacher LB
4.3: Brandon Carter TE
5.2: Thomas Mango RB
6.5: Shawn Guy K/P
7.5: Buck Charles WR
Returning Players
LB James Warner
QB Aaron Rasheed
The San Antonio Marshals made it no secret that the defense would be the heart and soul of this team. With five straight picks of defensive players, this defense is going to be a force this season. Bastion Barnhardt DE, has the speed and strength to muscle his way to QB, and then has the tackling ability to finish the play. Barnhardt should find himself towards the top of the list in sacks this year. The Marshals also have a trio of LBs that will make it tough on offenses this year. Luis Elmarez possesses great tackling ability and strength. Elmarez will be a force in stopping the run and should rack up plenty of tackles. Ben Urlacher joins him as the other LB drafted. Urlacher has great speed out of the LB position. With good strength and tackling to complement his speed, Urlacher should be able to get pressure off the outside on the QB, and also assist in stopping the run. James Warner is the returning LB that will lead this crop of young players. With high end speed and solid tackling ability, Warner is sure to put plenty of pressure on the QB. The marshals also did not forget about their secondary. Gregory Fletcher CB, has great speed and agility. Sure to be a solid CB this year, he also has hands to make plays. Darren Morris S, also has solid speed and agility, and coincidentally just as much catching ability as Fletcher. Morris also has the tackling ability to come up and make plays in the run game as well. On the offensive side, Aaron Rasheed will lead the charge. With decent throwing strength and accuracy, Rasheed won’t be carving up defenses with regularity, but he should be able to keep this team in position to win. Thomas Mango RB will head the rushing attack. Mango has the speed and agility to make big plays. Behind a solid defense, Mango should will be a big factor in how the season goes for the Marshals. Buck Charles and Brandon Carter TE will provide the top targets for Rasheed this year. Buck Charles was a late pick in the draft, but I think has the ability to be a playmaker this year. With good speed and agility, and average hands Charles has the ability to turn nothing into something. A solid route runner, I believe this will be a player to watch this year. Carter, while not striking any fear into defenses with his running ability, is going to have the hands to provide a great safety valve for his QB. Carter will also be able to provide help with his solid blocking ability as well. The Marshals also invested in Shawn Guy K/P. The K/P out of Southern Miss will provide the Marshals with the kicking ability to get valuable points on the board, while their defense keeps the game low scoring. I project the Marshals to have the strongest defense in the DSFL this season.
Tijuana Luchdores

Draft Picks
1.3: Egor Medved DT
2.1: Ryan Sierra OL
3.1: Terrell Brister CB
4.1: Sydney Spinelli RB
5.3: Dean Jackson K/P
6.1: Isaac Brown QB
7.1: Jordan Banyard WR
Returning Players
S Eddy Kim
QB Tony Flygare
In the first round of this draft, the Tijuana Luchadores found their defensive anchor in Egor Medved. Medved, DT, has great strength and is sure to wreak havoc on the run game of opposing offenses. As the only DT in the draft, he is sure to give the Luchadores a clear advantage in their matchups. With their second pick, the Luchadores got a mauler for the offensive side of the ball. Ryan Sierra OL will provide the Luchadores with plenty of protection for the QB and RB with his tremendous strength. Behind Sierra, Isaac Brown QB and Tony Flygare QB will head this offense. The returning QB, Tony Flygare possesses average passing accuracy and strength. He has the intelligence to make the right read most of the time though. I believe that Isaac Brown is the QB to watch on this roster. With an average arm and decent decision making, Brown may not jump out at you as a player that you would want on your team. If you dig a little deeper though you will see that Brown has the big play ability in his legs with great aped and agility for a QB. Brown will be an exciting player to watch this year. Sydney Spinelli RB will complement Brown in the backfield this season. Spinelli is also quick and exciting to watch. This backfield will be a fun one with these two electric players running the show. Jordan Banyard WR will provide this offense with a sure handed chain-mover. With average speed, he won’t blow the tops off defenses, but he will keep them honest with the short and intermediate routes. While standing at 6’6, he will be a load to handle in the red zone. Returning for the secondary, Eddy Kim is going to do his best to keep offenses at bay. With good speed and agility, Kim should not be getting beat deep too often this season. This complementing with decent tackling ability, Kim should be able to come up and provide help in run defense as well. Joining him in the secondary is the third rounder, Terrell Brister CB. Brister is a quick, playmaking CB. With great speed and good agility, Brister should be able to prevent any big plays. With good hands as well, Brister should also be able to turn just preventing plays into making plays.
As this wraps up the team by team analysis, we can now move onto the preseason power rankings. While these are sure to be completely wrong by the end of the year, it is something fun to look back at, and let me know about how I underrated your player or team. I’ll start by listing what I think will be the best offenses, then defense, and then finally the top teams overall.
Offense
#1: Norfolk Seawolves
Lead by Wolverine Justice and complemented by Kenny Omega and Conall O’Sullivan, this offense is sure to put up big numbers this year. With Jett Winter providing the protection needed by any offense, this is one offense I’m excited to watch throughout the year.
#2: Tijuana Luchadores
Isaac Brown and Sydney Spinelli are sure to be an exciting duo to watch. The highly drafted OL Ryan Sierra is going to put these two in position to make plays. Jordan Banyard should also provide the red zone playmaking ability to cap off any drive.
#3: Chicago Blues
With two solid targets on the outside in Fresh Booter and Dustin Atkins, the Blues should thrive through the air. David Turner will also provide the Blues with a great rushing attack.
#4: Portland Pythons
John Wachter and Carlito Crush are a great attack through the air. Any QB should be able to thrive with these targets in this offense.
#5: San Antonio Marshals
With Aaron Rasheed leading the offense, and a complement at RB with Thomas Mango, this offense should be able to move the chains. Buck Charles and Brandon Carter will provide Rasheed with two targets through the air.
#6: Kansas City Coyotes
Last in my rankings, but by no means far behind any teams. The Coyotes have Jovan Grujicic leading this offense on the ground. Victor Ball and Ben Hartsock will provide the top targets for the offense this year. Ray Riemann will provide some much needed protection for the offense.
Defense
#1: San Antonio Marshals
The Marshals tout a great front seven that includes Bastion Barnhardt, Luis Elmarez, Ben Urlacher, and James Warner. Gregory Fletcher and Darren Morris will provide secondary help to this defense.
#2: Kansas City Coyotes
The Coyotes front seven will include Sal Ifedemi making plays. The strength lies in the secondary with Andre Bly Jr., Jacob Lattimore, LaMarcus Mills, and Mitch Maslin however.
#3: Chicago Blues
With a trio of CBs in Tegan Atwell, Jackie Jordan, and Eric Forman in the draft to go along with Artist Boogie, this secondary will be a tough test for opposing QBs. Matt Edilio will lead the front seven.
#4: Norfolk Seawolves
Lead by second rounder Luke Kraken and returning player Rick Sanchez, this defense will be tough to move the ball on. Hendrix, Clearwater, and Bakari are also going to make it tough to throw on their secondary
#5: Tijuana Luchadores
The Luchadores will be anchored up front by Egor Medved. Terrell Brister, and Eddy Kim will work to make this passing defense into a threat to opposing offenses.
#6: Portland Pythons
The Pythons should have a solid secondary with Cameron Taylor, Jakob Andrews, and Boston Ooty. The issue with this defense is upfront in run defense. If the run defense of this team outperforms my expectations, then I believe they could put together a solid defense.

The Pythons should have a solid secondary with Cameron Taylor, Jakob Andrews, and Boston Ooty. The issue with this defense is upfront in run defense. If the run defense of this team outperforms my expectations, then I believe they could put together a solid defense.
