Last night, Kansas City Coyote Defensive End, Childish Gambino saw his childhood dreams come true...to be a professional football player. Upon entering the green room, Gambino had a pretty good sense of where he was going to land. “I felt like Baltimore was going to take me there, at four.” He said. “We had some really good pre-draft interviews and workouts, and something just stood out about them. The rest of the teams, Colorado, San Jose, you know, we talked, but something seemed to just...click with Baltimore, man.” He concluded.
So as the draft started to wind down, Gambino found himself back home on a flight to Atlanta, where as soon as he landed on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, he was welcomed home to a hero’s welcome. “We landed man, we are taxiing that tarmac, and I saw my friends and family, my face lit up, and we were ready to celebrate, and celebrate we did.”
The party lasted well into the night. In fact, as the sun started to rise and bring on a new day over Atlanta, it set in that Gambino had to get ready and get back to work. “Here we are, I’m talking to my teammates on the phone, my friends and family are celebrating the draft, drinking and yelling until the sun came up, and it hits me, man...I have to catch a 7am flight to Baltimore! We quickly gathered everything up, I said my goodbyes, gave out hugs and kisses, and I was on my way back to Hartsfield-Jackson. Last night just felt like a real whirlwind. It was over as quick as it began.”
So now, earlier this morning, Childish Gambino arrives to Baltimore facilities for the first time and is absolutely blown away. “It was amazing man. I had heard the facilities here in Baltimore were top notch, but just painting a picture in your head does nothing until you actually lay your eyes on it. Amazing. Pristine. State of the art. All words that can be used to describe this. I met with my teammates for the first time, the General Manager, all that Jazz, man. I could not be happier to be a Hawk. My plan is to retire for the team that drafted me, and I hope they feel the exact same way about me. This is the start of something special, I think we all feel the same way about this blossoming relationship.”
When asked about what he thought of hearing other people say he wasn’t worthy about the number four spot, Gambino got right to the point. “Everyone has haters. No one wants to admit they are wrong. I have sat here these past twenty four hours and I have heard and seen things of people saying I was not worthy of being number four. Well, in my head, I know I was worthy of number one, two, three, and four kinds sirs and madams. In fact, even if I fell into the later rounds, I would have been worthy. I am here to prove to you all that Baltimore made the correct selection when they decided to take me, and when I do, I would like to know how you would like your crow served....”hot or cold?” It is officially time to get down to business. It is time to prove everyone wrong. It is time to get to work.”
Very strong words from a very strong prospect. Every one in Baltimore seems to be in agreement that they did indeed make the correct choice. If Gambino works half as hard as he claims he will, they seem to have a future Hall of Famer on their hands. Oh, and if Gambino had one other thing to say to all his doubters, non-believes, and haters, it would simple be: “Shh.”
Look for Childish Gambino out on an NSFL field near you, in the very, very near future.
