Greetings, DSFL GMs. As many of you know, I tend to do a lot of in-character articles, but have decided to break from the norm and post an OOC article, so that my potential DSFL. GMs and teammates can get to know me better. I haven’t had a lot of GMs reach out for scouting. I’m not sure if this is because my reputation precedes itself (good or bad) or if that’s just not the way things are handled in the DSFL. Regardless, I’ve compiled a series of questions below based on common rookie questions and things people have asked me directly.
I also realize that, as someone who spent his entire career in YKW, many of you haven’t had a chance to get to know me. So, feel free to ask questions in the comments whether you’re in the DSFL or not.
Why did you suddenly go “inactive” in S8?
This is probably the first and foremost question on everyone’s minds. I was very active in the league for a long time and almost suddenly dropped off the face of the planet about 3 months ago. I had to step down as YKW co-GM and move on. I won’t reveal personal details, but the truth is I simply had to make a change. I was dedicating a lot of time to the league that was needed elsewhere and, even though I still enjoyed the league a lot, I knew I had to take a step back. YKW has a lot of great guys helping behind the scenes and it was far from a two-man show, so I was confident they would be okay. Despite this sudden departure, I never actually went inactive. I continued to do tasks whenever I could to gain TPE and continue to help my team.
What kind of activity can we expect from you?
With Eric Kennedy, for most of my career, I was extremely active, picking up almost every bit of TPE I could. I took a backseat with regression around the corner because I had to focus on IRL things, but intend to resume the level of activity that I was once known for. The last 2 seasons gave me an opportunity to recharge and I’m excited for a fresh start.
Why did you choose a Quarterback?
It was a tough decision. I wanted to move away from WR, but other than that, I was fairly open. I strongly considered TE and almost every defensive position. I even considered starting another RB. However, the QB position has always interested me. It also takes a very dedicated player and I think I’ve proven that I can be trusted to handle that the level of activity necessary.
What do you bring to our locker room?
As a former co-GM, I understand a lot about the league and what it takes to win. Admittedly, I was involved with the player relations / scouting / budgeting side of things over the actual strategy, but I understand enough about the sim to be helpful and I know how to build a player. I’m hoping to be an active part of my team’s discord locker room and help the new players on my team learn the ropes. One of my favorite things about the DSFL is that it allows veteran players to groom new members. Bzerkap and Nuck did a lot to take me under their wing when I first joined and I look forward to returning the favor.
Do you have any preference in where you get drafted?
Unfortunately, due to IRL obligations, it’s difficult for me to follow the DSFL, much less the NSFL. This will change now that I’m part of it, but I’m guilty of being naive at the moment. I don’t know much about what teams are competitive right now or what their needs are, so I can’t base an opinion on that. I am willing to work hard to help a weaker team or to put a stronger team over the top, so win percentage isn’t going to hinder my dedication to the team. In terms of GMs, the Coyotes immediately jump out at me as I enjoy talking with both Numbers and AdamS. The Luchadores are also a good landing spot as I’ve had a lot of good conversations with nunc. I’m sure the other two teams will also be fine, though I don’t know their GMs as well. However, if you draft me, I look forward to getting to know you better.
Are you open to a position change?
I’m not sure that this is relevant at the DSFL level, but I know it will come in scouting questions from NSFL GMs! Almost every QB says that they will never change, even the less active ones. I think I’ve earned the right to fill this role. However, over the course of the season, I’m looking forward to talking with the NSFL GMs and gauging the overall interest in me at this position. If enough teams feel that I can be an asset to them, I will likely stay in the role. Otherwise, I may be looking at other options. For now, I’m just looking forward to playing QB for a season and plan on determining my long-term viability later.
If you stay at QB, are you willing to play in the DSFL for several seasons?
Of course! Even as a potential max earner, I anticipate probably 2-3 seasons in the DSFL as a QB. It takes about 500-600 TPE to even be decent in the NSFL. Unexpected circumstances might force me to move up sooner, but I’m expecting to be in the DSFL for a while while banking loads of TPE.
