It's been a busy few days for running back Ardie Savea in the wake of the draft. After being selected 14th overall he was immediately on the phone with GMs in Orange County who were asking about his plans in the league and what he could do for the team. Talks were cut short due to the stresses of more draft picks to be made and podcasts to be run.
Rumours of trades began to spread while Ardie entered talks with the front office of the Otters to plan out a role in their offense. A great big man called Angus showed him what he could do since the team already had two very capable backs. After discussing this they both came to the conclusion that there was no real role big enough on that offense for Ardie's talents and he would be better suited somewhere with gaps to fill.
Las Vegas had shown interest before the draft and of course it wasn't long before they came knocking to get the guy they wanted from this S2 class. While Ardie was asleep in his home town of Wellington a deal was made and he woke up to find himself a member of the Las Vegas Legion.
We called Ardie to get his reaction to the trade and views on his future in the National Simulation Football League;
Ardie has had some friendly and some not so friendly rivalries in the lead up to the season but with the draft now finally done we asked him about some of the players he played with and against in the prospect games, and how he viewed them as competitors;
Things are shaping up to be very exciting this season and look for these rookies to make a big impact on the teams that acquired them, we leave you with this video to showcase what Ardie Savea can do in a yellow and black jersey and perhaps as a sample of things to come:

Quote:“I’m very happy to be here in Las Vegas, obviously as a competitor I want a chance to showcase my abilities at the highest level possible and having a lead role in a new offense is very exciting. I’m very thankful to everyone in Orange County, the general managers were very accepting of my situation and wishes for my career, and Angus helped a ton to look into how I could try to fit into what they had going there. Everyone in the locker room was very welcoming and even though my stay was very brief I’ll miss them, hopefully if things turn out favorably I might have a chance to return later in my career.
I’ve been quoted as saying I’ll lead the league in rushing yards this season and in this offense that is definitely an achievable goal for me I believe. We have some big personalities on this team but I think that will help with the winning culture as we all push each other to be better.”

Quote:“Being the leagues rushing leader is one thing but I have plenty of goals for myself in my (true) rookie season. I’ll be the best running back in this class which goes without saying, but I also want to win awards such as rookie of the year. Not just offensively either I want to be the stand out from the entire draft and really show some of these guys what I can do.
Yeah there was some dramas in the days before the draft, I guess things got a bit tense as we didn’t know what was happening and our futures sort of hung in the balance. It’s cool now I think we sorted things and I guess the league environment is better for it. I’m ready to run all over Cushing when we face them though haha.
Maybe that situation caused both of us to take a hit to our draft stock but at the end of the day it’s how you perform once you’re here and I’m ready to prove I’m better than 14.
Yeah it sort of sucks because my days with the Mongoose were awesome, it was like a replacement for college for me since I never got a chance to take that route and I really bonded with some of those dudes. It will be weird to go against guys like Bork now that the draft has us on different teams but that’s the way things go, I’ll definitely hit him after to try and get his jersey though. Then there’s situations like Cobb who was my rival during the prospect games and pushed both myself and my teammate Farlane to be better. Now Cobb is my teammate and I’ll be checking every week to see how Darlane went as we both try to be the best running backs we can in this league.”
