Vincent Sharpei takes a sip of his drink and steps up to the Podium..
"I know you guys have a lot of questions about the season and upcoming free agency, I've already talked to my GM and let him know I am opting out of my player contract. Feel free to ask me anything about the upcoming free agency."
Do you have an idea of your top destinations?
Right now I have no idea where I am going. I am going to do some soul searching this off season, and I am hoping to get eight offers on the table when Free Agency hits. I have no preferences on where to go, I just want to build with a team and feel the need and want.
Follow up, What team could you make the biggest difference on?
I believe that any team I go to I can have an immediate impact on. Everybody needs Offensive Linemen. The team I could probably make the biggest difference on would have to be Colorado or Las Vegas. I could anchor those lines for years to come.
Why did you decide to leave?
As I stated in the first question, I wouldn’t really consider it leaving. San Jose has a fair shot just like everybody else as to where I am going. I want to gauge the interest in my abilities from other teams and want to be able to get a feel for where I am most needed.
Does the Outlaws dominance have anything to do with this?
What dominance? Just Kidding, but really, no I don’t believe it does. I just want to spread my wings and go and test the waters, see where life will bring me.
So you're stepping down as co-GM? Why is that?
I mean, if I sign somewhere else then yes I am. I feel that I have brought a lot to San Jose, and I want to see if there are other places that could use me, and want to use me to the best of my abilities. I want to bring that A factor to a team and help change them around.
What are you looking for the most in potential teams? Money, locker room, being contenders, etc.?
Money is always a nice thing to have, but I wouldn’t say I’m chasing it. I mean a nice hefty contract always looks good don’t get me wrong. What I really want is a chance at being a contender and some locker room activity that will make other teams quiver in their boots. I want to build up a family where ever I go
.
Why is coffee such a great ice cream flavor?
You disgust me. Coffee is a horrible ice cream flavor. The one true ice cream flavor is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
What does San Jose have to do to court you back?
San Jose has to make a splash this off season. Through free agency, and possibly even trades. I want to see the team bursting with excitement and energy and then I would think about coming back to San Jose. Don’t get me wrong, they have a great young core, but they need that it factor.
You had some struggles in pass protection this season. Is there anything in particular you're looking to work on to improve in that area during the offseason? Do you think that a different blocking scheme run by another team would help you to be more successful?
Yeah, I have played like complete shit this season and I am very disappointed in my game and my play. I am going to take a good hard look at what I have done and what I will continue to do to see if I can hopefully change it up. I think possibly that another team’s blocking scheme can help me learn and develop to be the best offensive lineman in the league, but we will take it day by day.
Do you want to keep the same number if you go to another team?
I would love to be able to keep my number. But If I end up somewhere else and someone has #77 I will inevitably change for them because I would be like the new guy in the locker room again. I don’t want to step on any toes and cause drama in a locker room over a number.
Would you care to give your thoughts on where you see the Sabercats franchise going, regardless of whether or not you return to the team?
I see the Sabercats trending upwards. They’ve made some interesting moves this past season acquiring Jackson, Lewith and Tech for the corpse of Longshaw. I believe that the Sabercats are a two to three players away from competing with the Otters and making a push for the playoffs.
Does ketchup belong on a hotdog?
Honestly, if you want a Chicago style hotdog, no it does not. But sometimes, just sometimes, ketchup can make the hotdog so much better.
Why do you hate friendship?
I hate friendship, because of John Canton. He taught me how to hate friendship, so therefore I had to follow in his footsteps and continue the hate train. Remember, the hate train has no breaks CHOO CHOO
Also why haven't you played Divinity with me yet? I finally made it to act 2.
I haven’t played Divinity with you because every time I get on, I just sit there and wait there, waiting for you… and you decide to never invite me. So if anything YOU hate friendship.
Is there a particular reason you decided to opt out of your contract?
I decided to Opt out of my contract because I feel like it’s time to gauge the market. I want to see the level of competitive ness that other teams will offer me and I want to see if there is another team that can swoon me and prove to me why I should go there.
Are you looking to immediately contend for a championship?
When I was a waiver pick up in season 1, I went to the Hawks who were supposed to be that team and ended up not doing so hot. Season 2 when I was drafted by the Sabercats, they were one of the worst teams. Season 3, the Sabercats had some upside, but ended up being a lower tier team again. I don’t need to immediately contend for a championship as long as I see the team moving in the right direction.
Would you consider going to a rebuilding team like the Yeti or Legion?
I would have no problem going to either team as long as I could see the plan they were going with and could get behind it. I believe that I can help build up any team and I am not as worried as to where I go right now.
Where do you think the direction of the league is going?
I think the league has been sort of lax on a few punishments, but the front office is making the correct strides in my eyes to continue to keep competitive and they are making the right moves to keep us going for a long time.
Why do you think Arizona has been able to build such a dominating team, while maintaining such a large amount of cap space available for free agency, while also having a locker room that is bursting in activity that makes other teams quiver in their boots, and an offensive scheme and coaching staff that has helped turn offensive linemen like Tim Pest from worst in the league to best in the league?
I think Arizona got real lucky in the first ever draft, and have been able to keep up with the activity of the locker room and the players they continue to add, I don't even know who their scout is but he seems to be killing it. Could it be the ladies in Arizona? the drugs? Being so close to Mexico? Who knows, but from what I hear their offensive scheme is amazing.
