One large and particularly disappointing bust is Season 5 NSFL draft 3rd overall pick by the Baltimore Hawks: wide receiver John Watcher. He was an absolute force in the season 4 DSFL for the Portland Pythons, racking up an incredible and record setting 95 receptions, 1,144 yards, and 5 touchdowns. This was no accident, as he had a very high activity level and was at the top of the DSFL in TPE, which added to the deserved hype heading into the NSFL draft. Then, after being selected high in the draft... he played even better, taking the professional league by storm. 79 receptions, 849 yards, and 8 touchdowns. In addition, he joined his old Portland GM by becoming the Pythons co-GM! The future was bright for John Wachter... and then the activity just stopped. He stagnated. It’s now been 2 and a half months since he’s logged on, and it seems unlikely he’ll rise beyond the 290 TPE he currently sits at. He posted worse, but decent, stats for the Hawks in season 6, and he’d still be elite in the DSFL, but it seems as if the Baltimore Hawks will never have a John Wachter WR1 era. Or at least, if they do, it means the team is not doing well at all, because John Wachter is one of Season 5’s biggest and saddest busts.
