[div align=\\\"center\\\"]QB Andrew Reese Claims He’s Ready for the DSFL
[/div]
With the end of the S9 season wrapping up, buzz has already started to generate around the upcoming class of rookies that will join the DSFL. With many NSFL legends now retiring, the next wave of DSFL players may prove to be the stars of tomorrow. Among them is a man that is already making waves, former Purdue Quarterback Andrew Reese. We had the opportunity to sit down with Reese, who recently declared his candidacy for the S10 DSFL Draft Class.
Question: What is your message to DSFL coaches that are interested in drafting you?
Andrew Reese: Obviously, I’m sure a lot of them are still very early into the scouting process. I’ve already had conversations with representatives from one team behind the scenes and they were very interested in knowing if this was a route that I would pursue. Football is something that comes first in my heart and I feel blessed to be able to excel at a position that is so vital to the sport itself. Coming up, I always admired guys like Mike Boss, Mat Akselsen, Avon Blocksdale… I worked hard to adapt at the college level and I’ll work just as hard to make the leap into the DSFL. I won’t sugarcoat it. My real goal is the NSFL and I want to be clear about that. I’m not a guy that you can expect to coast and feel comfortable down in the DSFL. I might be down for an extra season, but I’m not going to be a long-term investment. The type of team that targets me is one that needs a top-quality Quarterback now and wants to start winning this season. I want to make an impact in the DSFL, but I’m also looking to show teams at the NSFL level that I’m the guy that can lead their franchise to bigger and better things.
Q: What do you feel is the key to success for a DSFL team? And how do you factor into that?
AR: Mentally, I think everyone has to be on the same page. You need someone that can be a leader both on the field and in the locker room. I make it a point to push the people around me because I want us all to be better today than we were the day before. I work hard and I expect the offense around me to work every bit as hard as I do. I’ve proven that I can function as a team leader and I’m expecting the guys around me to follow suite.
Q: Many DSFL Quarterbacks have moved into the NSFL, only to fall to the wayside. It takes a rare player to succeed at this position. What do you feel sets you apart?
AR: You’re right. A lot of guys have come and gone. I’ve seen interviews with guys that swore they were in it for the long haul and instead settled into mediocrity. I don’t fault guys that take on other positions because that’s a major challenge and I respect anyone who takes on a serious challenge. However, I’m a big believer in the impact that a high-level Quarterback can bring to a team and my heart and soul are in this position. I’ve looked at the field. I know that I’m up against some heavy competition. You’re going to see a lot of guys say the same things. They work hard. They want to be the best. They’re ready to put the work in. Everybody shows up to training camp wanting to be the MVP. It’s the middle of the road that separates the true warriors from the rest of the pack. I have a reputation for standing my ground and producing results. When other guys are starting to wear down around mid-season, I’m still getting started. There’s nothing I can say to you that the next guy can’t because we’re all walking into this with a clean slate, but by the middle of the next season, you’re going to see a serious difference between the candidates that are out there and I can promise you that my name will be at the top of that list. Deep down, I know that the results are going to speak for themselves and I honestly can’t wait to get started because I know that everything I’m telling you right now is about to be validated by the impact that I’m going to have on the field.
Clearly, Reese is a player that believes in his talents, though it’s hard to imagine that any Quarterback coming up the ranks isn’t carrying themselves with confidence. Only time will tell if Reese ends up being regarded alongside the legendary Quarterbacks that he mentioned or if he’ll prove to be just another name in a long list of busts at the game’s most unforgiving position.
