Most people like to make fun of or hate on kickers. They will say that kickers are not real football players. I will admit kickers are not the most athletic person on the field. They are not fast, usually they can not throw or catch the ball. What they lack in physical ability they make up for with their leg skills. Hundreds of games of football have been won by an overtime field goal or, by a kick in the winding seconds of the fourth quarter. At the end of the day your opinion on kickers does not matter, if you want to win games your team needs to have a good kicker.
Six teams went into draft night knowing they would need a leg to rely on for the season. As luck would have it nine kickers reported eligible for the Inaugural NSFL draft. Here is an introduction to the prospects.
Bojo Kicksit was the first Kicker taken in the draft. The Colorado Yeti wanted to be the first team to select a kicker, so in the 12th round with the 70th pick they drafted the guy with the most powerful leg in the draft class. Bojo is an active player with over 70 posts, and has earned 90 TPE so far. Bojo has signed a 3 season $6 million deal.
Intelligence: 60 Kick Power: 79 Kick Accuracy: 71
Turk Turkleton was selected with the 77th pick in the S1 draft by the Baltimore Hawks. Turk played well enough at U.C. Davis that he was considered by most to be the top kicker coming into the draft. Turk has amassed 98 TPE so far, and has one of the most powerful legs in the league. He is the most active out of all the kickers totaling over 150 posts.
Intelligence: 63 Kick Power: 78 Kick Accuracy: 72
Jimmy Darkapple was the third kicker off the board, being taken in the 14th round with the 82nd pick by the Colorado Yeti. There has been rumors that the Yeti did not mean to select Jimmy. Whether or not that's true, the Yeti got (for their second kicker) the fourth most active of the kickers with almost 40 posts. He has gathered 77 TPE, and has a good balance of power and accuracy.
Intelligence: 60 Kick Power: 75 Kick Accuracy: 74
Brandon Walsh was selected with the 84th pick in the S1 draft by the Orange County Otters. With only 15 posts and the starting 50 TPE, Brandon is currently one of the weaker footed kickers in the league. Brandon also has the most intelligent of the kicking prospects. He has currently signed a 1 season $3 million deal.
Intelligence: 65 Kick Power: 70 Kick Accuracy: 72
Adrienne Nugent was selected with the 90th overall pick by the Arizona Outlaws, making him the fifth kicker taken. Adrienne comes into the league with the most accurate leg of all kickers, but he lacks in power. With only 8 posts and the starting 50 TPE, Adrienne needs to be more active.
Intelligence: 60 Kick Power: 65 Kick Accuracy: 78
Stephan Harris was selected with the 92nd pick in the S1 draft by Baltimore Hawks. Stephan was the sixth kicker taken in the draft (and second taken by Hawks) even though he is the second most active kicker with over 100 posts. Stephan has made 86 TPE so far, and has a nice balance between his power and accuracy. Stephan has signed a 1 season $1.5 million deal.
Intelligence: 61 Kick Power: 74 Kick Accuracy: 74
Kentillan Laces was soon to follow being selected 93rd overall by the San Jose Sabercats. Good luck with this kid, he does not seem committed to football. Kentillan has 4 posts and only the starting 50 TPE. Compared to the others he has low power, accuracy, and intelligence. Kentillan has signed a 2 season $4 million deal.
Intelligence: 55 Kick Power: 71 Kick Accuracy: 71
Archibald Booter was the last kicker taken in the S1 draft. Selected 122nd overall by the Yellowknife Wraiths. Archibald has poor intelligence and the lowest accuracy out of all the kickers. Coming from Colorado State seems to have affected his grades. He has so far only made 3 posts and the starting 50 TPE.
Intelligence: 50 Kick Power: 76 Kick Accuracy: 70
Ryan Ellis was claimed on waiver by Yellowknife Wraiths after they had concerns with Archibald not showing up for practice. Ryan has higher accuracy and lower power compared to other kickers. Ryan has so far only made 5 posts and earned the starting 50 TPE. He has signed a 1 season $2 million deal.
Intelligence: 55 Kick Power: 71 Kick Accuracy: 75
According to the stats the Baltimore Hawks have the most active kickers with Turk and Stephan totaling 260+ posts combined. The Yellowknife Wraiths have two kickers who both might be busts. The Colorado Yetis have a solid kicking force behind Bojo and Jimmy. The Orange County Otters have a promising kicker in Brandon. Then San Jose Sabercats and Arizona Outlaws will probably be looking for new kickers soon. Now that you got a brief overview of the league’s kickers the question you might have been waiting for can be asked.
Which team has the best kicking group?
That is a hard question to answer, but in my obviously biased opinion the Colorado Yeti have by far the best kickers in the league at the moment.
