Just so everyone is clear it is NOT valid reasoning to edit 24 roster pages on 7 different teams without speaking to anyone first. I received complaints from NUMEROUS General Managers regarding this. This is not valid reasoning.

I understand this part, but just because something appears in an instant to not have valid reasoning doesn't mean it isn't indeed valid in the end.

In this particular example, the fear was that he edited player data, ratings, etc. which would sound off a bunch of alarms at first, as it should given the rules and the history of this league. But once the digging was done and it was found he just changed topic titles from "Player 1 QB Season 6" to "(S6) QB - Player One", those alarms should have been properly shut off.

Yes, @Pens should've asked someone, but he did nothing malicious here, and perhaps should have been slapped on the wrist instead.

Intent shouldn't play a factor in the penalty. The rulebook has a clear penalty for a situation like this, and that guideline should be followed, even if it does seem to be harsh. What he did should be left to the updaters, or to HO when approving players, and if he wanted to remedy the errors in formatting he should have gone to HO before doing anything.

Sure, if he was a vet who knew the history of this league and why editing player pages and the likes might be bad to do, but for all Pens knows, he’s just trying to help clean the league up and make it more uniform. Seems kindve excessive to make the penalty this harsh, and now the league might be losing one of its most active new members.

I disagree that it’s not valid reasoning. He probably saw that one or two pages were off and decided to go out of his way to make the site look more uniform and organized. He was simply trying to help the league after he saw the mistakes. He probably didn’t even know that you were supposed to ask HO first, and he’s probably very unfamiliar with how jcink works and how much of a process it would be for HO to dig to see if he abused any powers.

We can't penalize based on time in the league, that leads to a slippery slope and doesn't hold people accountable for their actions. It really isn't even that harsh of a penalty, the money isn't hard to get back and a moderation suspension doesn't mean all that much, especially considering an NSFL GM (Hendrix) had this same penalty for deleting a post a while back. We can't change penalties, or not penalize based on the user's experience in the league, and while it sucks that he may be losing interest it should be clear to go to HO first before doing anything.

The fact that the rulebook has an area for Moderation abuse. Even if he believes he has valid reasoning for it (which he can still appeal the penalty) he should talk to HO before doing anything, as editing 24 topics seems like something that should be taken to HO first. If I was a new member I wouldn't be doing anything like that without talking to HO, and even then I'd tell them and let them deal with it.

It depends what was changed IMO if it's valid reasoning or not.

If players were missing draft season or position from the title I would say it's valid.

If it was about hyphens/brackets/parentheses etc, I would say it's not valid. It looks nice but if all the information is there I don't really see an excuse to do it.

So it has come to our attention that @Pens has edited the player pages for 24 different pages. It appears based on the Head Office's evaluation that nothing substantive has been changed other than the title of the posts. However this is unacceptable. Changing the titles on other people's pages (various teams that he is not on) without the permission of the Head Office or the General Managers of those teams is not allowed.

So given the rules in the book Pens will not be allowed to have moderation powers until at least week 3 of season 8. He will also be fined $2,000,000 (@ItsJustBarry tagging you for the money part).

While I think the whole thing is a bit silly, it's important that HO is transparent and consistent with rulings. Based on that, I can't really see why anyone is criticising this decision, tbh.
