As you may have seen, I am officially seeking a new replacement for me as GM and you can apply at this link. I wanted to keep the job application professional and instead share my reasoning for stepping down here.
For starters, everything is fine. I'm in a good place. I have actually been in the process of trying to groom future candidates for the role with me stepping down in a season or two. I believe it is good for new GMs to take over from time to time as it demonstrates that the players own the teams, not the other way around. I have had 7 seasons as GM and it's been a great run, but it was never my plan to be GM forever. I'm proud of where we're at as a team and the next GM is going to be inheriting a great group of players. This next draft is also stacked and they'll get the opportunity to help shape the team for several seasons to come, so the timing probably couldn't be better.
The truth is that I've taken on a lot of responsibility IRL and it's become difficult for me to juggle GM duties and still do what I need to do outside of the league. In addition to my normal college schedule, I took on two very difficult 8-week courses and am already swamped despite it only being the second week. This unfortunately means I have to pass the torch sooner than expected, but the team is in a great spot and I'm confident my replacement will be able to keep the momentum going.
Unfortunately for the team, this means that Baby Yoda is going to be up for grabs. I've had a great head start, but with these 8-week courses occupying so much of my time and the rest of the semester still looming over my head after that comes to an end, I'm not sure I'll be active enough over these next 4 months to warrant a 2nd round pick, especially given the quality of these great S21 draft prospects. I gave some of my DSFL GM friends a hard time when they let me fall to #24 in the DSFL draft, but the truth is that this is an amazing class and there are a lot of tremendous prospects. I have full confidence that the current war room will end up choosing a great candidate with that 2nd round pick.
Obviously, I'm open to return to Arizona as I loved my time there and would deeply recommend it to any rookie that they reach out to as a prospect. However, as I can not dedicate my time to serving as an advisor for the team going forward, it wouldn't be fair to place me in that GM pick slot even if I knew for sure that I could keep up as a max earner. That said, I am open to playing for any team in the NSFL and/or staying down in the DSFL if that makes sense for whoever drafts me. I'm willing to fill any role that my archetype will allow (RB, FB, TE, or WR) and don't need any guarantee of stats; if you draft me, feel free to use me in any way that benefits the team. If any NSFL GM has further questions, feel free to PM me on discord and ask.
I'm literally about to walk out the door to head to my next class, but I wanted to get out ahead of this announcement and make sure everyone knew the full story. I wish I had time to thank everyone who has been there for me as a GM and as part of the team, but I have sent out some personal thank yous in the team LR and I wish our team the absolute best going forward.
