The year of our lord 2021. A new year. And as every new year, it brings changes. In the ISFL, it brings so many things together. It feels like 2020 all over again. Sim engine change, new draft class, so many recreates, and, let's not forget the season 26 playoffs, in both the majors and the minors. A massive change of landscape. Like how COVID changed our lives, that's how I see 2021 in ISFL. So much instability. So much learning by diving head first into the things. Sim testing is no more, but teams still have to strategize. It will be blind. But isn't that what we want here? Don't we want a league as close to the NFL as possible? From what I have seen, we do. And strategizing like that will bring us one step closer. I see the league expanding at least two, maybe three times, up to a whooping 18 or even 20 teams. The recruitment team has been successful. And another recruitment drive is about to get launched soon, if it hasn't been already. The retention rates are through the roof. We can support a 16 team league with the current player basis. Imagine what will happen if we keep recruiting like that. 20 teams will be too few. I also see the DSFL expanding to 10 teams. Not sure how, or why, but I do. I see the league expanding beyond our comprehension. And yes, I said "expansion", also known as "E-word".

While I was not a part of the sim transfer team, I am in another sim league as an offensive coordinator that uses draft day sports pro football 2021. I think that there will be growing pains for the league overall, but I think this is for the best in the long run, especially when it comes to the passing game. As it is typically the ISFL is a more run heavy league, we have not seen a crazy air raid offense in the past 5 seasons aside from Sarasota’s S25 campaign led by the MVP Dexter Banks III. However, in my playtime of draft day sports pro football 21 it has been shown that passing can be just as effective, and in some cases more effective than running depending on your scheme and players. I also think when it comes to quarterbacks, we will see a lot more diversity when it comes to build options. Currently with the 79-speed bug turned feature in 16, game manager has taken over the league. 50% of the starters in the current ISFL are game managers. It is not fun to watch, it is not fun to be I assume, and it feels awful to watch someone with 79 speed outrun your 90 speed safeties. I think overall teams will build offenses around a certain style, going deep, west coast, ground and pound, zone runs things of that nature. Where defenses will be more versatile built to deal with different offenses. I am very excited for the move to the new sim, I think it will be great for new and old users alike.
2021 is going to be a very different year for how the sim looks and functions. To start, the ball will no longer teleport out of the QB's hands directly into the hands of a WR, and it will now be thrown. While us kickers still will not have a dot, we will actually be able to see the special teams plays now. With the new sim, there will hopefully also not be terrible sim decisions like spiking the ball on 3rd down with 3 minutes left on the other team's 1 yard line. With the changes at the top of the TPE scale, now those max earners will be even more special on the field. There will no longer be lightspeed 79 speed QBs who can outrun 90+ speed defensive backs. I don't know if the new sim will change this, but occasionally a QB will move back and forth rapidly on a QB draw and then take off, I hope this bug is fixed and the QB will no longer rapidly move back and forth. Who knows, in 2021, maybe the Philadelphia Liberty will be done with their rebuild and actually turn into a contender, anything could happen!

The National Simulation Football league continues to get bigger and bigger. I joined this league back in the beginning of 2019 and I’m nearing the 2-year anniversary of me in this great sim league. So much has changed since the. Multiple expansions, season changes, rule changes, name changes, etc. Also the biggest change being that my first player Franklin Armstrong is now retired and I have my new player Big Slammu. Now the league is implementing the newest change, a change in sims that will be used. This brings a lot of new changes like traits, positions are gonna be different and so on. I’m not sure how my player Big Slammu is gonna be like after the position alterations. I think the worst part is that I have no clue how my player’s career is gonna go. I’m glad I had the dream career with Franklin Armstrong but I was hoping Big Slammu would be legendary as well. There’s also gonna be a lot more ISFL recruits and I’m excited what impact they’re able to have on this great league. All these new players who might make HOF level players, win Ultimus’s and generally have fun. I sincerely hope all these new players have as much fun as I had the past couple years.

I think 2021 is going to be a really exciting time for the league. With a new sim and what looks like a large recruiting class coming in next season there’s a lot of change happening at once, which is going to lead to a lot of positive change.
The new sim feels like it was very needed if I’m being honest. With the old sim it feels like there’s a lot more chance when it comes to player performance in relation to their skills. For example rookie QB’s really outplaying the highest earning QB doesn’t seem right to me. On the flip side of that though, I hope the gulf in max TPE earning players and players who aren’t max earning isn’t too big a difference as I feel it could cause some people to lost interest in the league if their player is doing terrible so they give up with them. I really hope that my team, the Baltimore Hawks, can take a few steps forward in the next season or two. Although our QB will start regressing soon it feels like we’ve got a strong team which can do good things in this league. We’ve started playing well the last few games of the season when we can’t do anything so it at least shows that we have the ability to challenge the teams at the top. ![]()
I think 2021 with the new sim is going to be an even bigger adjustment for the league than the forum migration was and that was certainly a learning curve. I know a lot of us have our issues with the sim that’s been used since the beginning of the league, but we knew what to except; even if it was shenanigans. So if some of the more glaring issues are ironed out (blowout losses when you’re testing 70% at home), then I think it will have been a good choice. I’m pretty interested to see what the new attributes will look like. I’ve pretty much hit all of my essential attributes and it feels like I play the same as I did when I initially position switched. I’m hoping the index is updated as well, as long as it maintains the rich history of the league. I’m really excited to see what the new sim has in store for us. As someone who doesn’t test, I have no idea just how frustrating a change could be. Sometimes it’s nice to be oblivious and ignorant. Maybe with the new sim, Chicago will finally be able to crack the top two seeds in their conference. Maybe the old sim was the reason for the Otters’ dominance and a new sim will end their dynasty?

I think the biggest change for the league coming in 2021 is naturally the transition to the new sim. With the current sim having been used for years now, most of the meta has already been figured out. It’s especially clear within certain positions, particularly running back and quarterback that certain archetypes are just objectively better than the others (speed for running back and game manager with 79 speed cheese for quarterbacks respectively). I think the most exciting thing that we’ll see when transitioning into the new sim and the new year is more diversity in builds and archetypes in the league going forward. Especially with the upcoming Reddit draft, which will bring in a huge chunk of new users with no preconceptions of the sim who are open to playing anything other than a speed dump. As a running back myself, I’m especially looking forward to what is being promised as a sort of homecoming for power running backs. I’ve been playing power since starting here in the league, despite it not being the “optimal” archetype just because that is what I wanted to play. It’s honestly been a little bit of a drag knowing that despite my earning I’m objectively worse than people who made the “correct” choice, but I’m looking forward to seeing if the new positional archetypes are as balanced as they are being advertised.
