[div align=\\\"left\\\"]It's that time of year folks! The draft hype-train is barrelling down the tracks with no stop in sight until the tentative draft day, Thursday, June 1st 2017. The dreams, hopes and fates of countless prospects hang in the balance as the day draws near. General Managers around the league from the NSFL's six teams are reporting sleepless nights as maximum effort is being thrust upon preparing for the draft.
On Friday, May 26th the league made it's much-anticipated announcement of the results for the draft order lottery. Hitting the jackpot, the Orange County Otters
and their lucky GM, Grapehead were awarded with the #1 pick in the Season One NSFL draft. Following the Otters, will be the Yellowknife Wraiths
and their GM, NUCK with the #2 overall pick. Following closely behind is the Colorado Yeti
, led by incitehysteria holding down the #3 overall pick. Coming up fourth, we have the San Jose Sabercats
and their GM Perkules. Possessing the #5 overall draft-slot is the Baltimore Hawks
. A recent front office change now has .Broken leading the franchise, with a possible name-change and relocation to Canada rumored to be in the works. Finalizing the first round of the first annual NSFL draft is the Arizona Outlaws
, led by ADwyer87.
The second round of the NSFL draft has the order reversing from the original round, with
taking the first pick in the second round, followed by

. Pistol News Network will now dive into important draft analysis, including team needs and projected picks.[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Orange County Otters
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]The Orange County Otters will start off our upcoming draft, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 1st. The Otters will also start off the season with two players already on the roster. The Otters have already signed their franchise quarterback, the mobile Anthony Petrakis. Petrakis owns some quick legs to go along with his high football IQ. Otters fans can expect a lot from Petrakis this upcoming season, as he attempts to measure up to the hype surrounding his name as he exits college and enters the NSFL. Rounding out the second rostered spot on the Otters is Safety Jackson Harris. Harris, a promising recruit out of Florida State boasts great speed and agility, allowing him to stack up favorably against opposing wide receivers.
With the first overall pick in the draft, the league-wide consensus is that the Otters will waste no time in making Josh Garden their first pick. In an attempt to help out their franchise quarterback, the Otters make a play for the widely-regarded best WR in the class. Garden possesses the speed and agility to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. Garden will be almost guaranteed safety coverage over the top, opening up all sorts of holes for the rest of the Otter's offense. The only question regarding this pickup is this: Does Petrakis have the arm to hit Garden deep and devastate opposing defenses?
A dark-horse pick for the Otters could be a running-back to help take some pressure off Petrakis. A speedster like Reg Mackworthy out of Oregon State could provide some promise while running the option. Extremely high top-end speed makes him a threat from anywhere on the field.
PNN's Pick: Josh Garden - WR - Baylor[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Yellowknife Wraiths
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]Coming in with the second highest pick in the NSFL draft is the Yellowknife Wraiths. Like the Otters, the Wraiths also boast two rostered players. Bubba Nuck, the HB out of UBC shows great promise. His speed and agility, along with his not-too-shabby strength should allow him to bust through holes and break tackles in the secondary, leading to big gains. The other rostered player for the Wraiths is DE Tyler Varga. Varga, the power rusher out of Yale brings the strength, speed and tackling ability everyone would want out of the cornerstone of their DL. He should bring about stout run defense with the ability to get after the opposing quarterback on passing downs.
With the #2 overall pick in the draft, the Wraiths will have a lot of options open to them. A QB to command the offense and take pressure off of Bubba Nuck seems the most likely pick here. Vincent Draxel out of the Gamecocks program in South Carolina appears to be a good fit. Regarded as one of the top QB prospects not already assigned to a team, Draxel's pocket passing ability, intelligence and accuracy would make the Wraith's offense a two-headed monster for their opponents.
The Wraiths dark-horse pick could be some help along the OL. ESPN's Guest Writer was the first to break the story about the possible interest in the OL by the Wraiths. According to the article from ESPN, they're tying OL Angus Winchester, the athletic player from Wisconsin to the Wraiths. Another option would be run-blocker Bender Rodriguez out of Temple. Either option could make for an interesting draft, and give franchise RB Bubba Nuck some help opening holes.
PNN's Pick: Vincent Draxel - QB - South Carolina[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Colorado Yeti
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]After the Wraiths pick are the newly re-branded Colorado Yeti. Formerly the Denver Grizzlies, the name change has brought about a new era for the team, though the current two-player roster remains the same. Like the Otters, the Yeti will start off the season with a franchise QB in place. Logan Noble, the pocket passer out of Ohio State shows a lot of promise. Noble's accurate arm and high intelligence will make him a boon to the Yeti, as long as they can outfit him with weapons. The second player on the roster is Wyatt Fulton, the speed rushing LB out of Colorado State. Fulton will get to stay in the comfort of Colorado after exiting college as the Yeti's starting LB. Wyatt has the strength, agility, speed and tackling ability to make him a presence on the defense that opponents will have to account for if they want to keep their QB's jersey clean.
With the 3rd overall pick in the draft, the Yeti will likely look to get their QB, Logan Noble, a reliable weapon. With the top overall WR prospect, Josh Garden likely being gone with the 1st pick, the Yeti could turn to D.J. Law out of the University of Miami. The speedy receiver has the speed and hands to warrant extra attention from the opposition. Considered a fairly safe-pick, Law has the potential to be a franchise cornerstone given the right QB situation. Luckily for Law and for the Yeti, that appears to be the case in Colorado.
A dark-horse pick for the Yeti could be a TE. Gabriel Tenzini out of Minnesota has the chain-moving qualities you'd want out of a possession tight-end. His blocking ability is nothing to be scoffed at either, as he will see the field a lot this coming season. Tenzini's stock could be on the rise as well this season, he's garnered a lot of attention as an integral part of the NSFL before even being drafted.
PNN's Pick: T.J. Law - WR - University of Miami[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]San Jose Sabercats
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]Starting off the second half of the first round, with the #4 overall pick is the San Jose Sabercats. The Sabercats have a strong foundation, with Jameis Christ, the QB out of THEE Florida State Seminoles leading the offense. The Gunslinger for the Sabercats can be expected to play well from the get-go, with the highlight reels already hitting Youtube. Ja Brill, the safety out of Michigan rounds out the current roster. Brill's playmaking ability mimics that of Baltimore Ravens stand-out Eric Weddle. Boasting WR-like hands could give Brill the edge in jump-balls deep that could lead to great numbers on the back-end of the Sabercats defense.
The top two WR prospects will likely be off the board by the #4 pick. With even sloppy seconds out of reach for the Sabercats, they could look at a different position, but we still have them picking up a WR. This class is pretty top-heavy with WR talent, and the drop-off between isn't as huge as it is some years. Unlike the two receivers we have being picked before him, Bailey Cook out of Florida State isn't a speedster, instead he possesses the talents of a possession receiver. Cook has been garnering lots of attention recently. Similar to TE Gabriel Tenzini, the NSFL is already seeing lots of promise out of Cook, as he's made himself an active member of the community pre-draft.
As we mentioned previously, the top WR's could already be picked through by the time the Sabercats are on the clock. We could see their dark-horse pick being either Reg Mackworthy, the RB out of Oregon State or Gabriel Tenzini the TE out of Minnesota
PNN's Pick: Bailey Cook - WR - Florida State[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Baltimore Hawks
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]The Baltimore Hawks have their work cut out for them with the #5 pick in the draft. Recent turnover in the front-office has prompted a change in the General Manager position, as well as a possible move north of the border to Canada. Luckily, the changes in the front office didn't change their current roster. Marcus Robinson, out of Duke signed with the Hawks. His receiving skills out of the backfield and his speed will offer some mismatches against unprepared linebackers. Erasmo Broadway, the speed rusher from Notre Dame is the other currently rostered player for the Hawks. Broadway's speed and tackling prowess look promising as he finds a way to get to the QB and disrupt the opposing offense.
With the 5th pick in the draft, PNN sees the Hawks shoring up the hole they have at QB. The early run on WR has left many of the top QB prospects still on the board. Ethan Hunt out of Idaho State appears an intriguing option for the Hawks as they look for their signal-caller. A mobile QB, Hunt opens the door for some interesting option plays with star RB Marcus Robinson already on the squad.
Seeing the early run on WR's, the Hawks could make the unlikely decision to go cornerback in the first round. Stannislaw Maddox out of Cincinnati offers the skills to hang man-to-man with most receivers. Having him to shut-down the WR picks before him could lead to an explosive defense with a speed rusher already on the roster.
PNN's Pick: Ethan Hunt - QB - Idaho State[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Arizona Outlaws
[/div]
[div align=\\\"left\\\"]The Arizona Outlaws finish the first round, culminating in the #6 overall pick. The Outlaws claim two offensive weapons already on the roster. WR King Bronko has the speed to make him an elite deep threat for the Outlaws, while his counter-part on the roster, Brady Stropko, the RB from Oregon keeps the defense honest. Stropko is an all-purpose back in the mold of Matt Forte that'll require the defense's attention, taking slack off of Bronko.
Two great offensive weapons, and neither is a signal caller. PNN sees the Outlaws remedying this with the #6 pick. Josh Bercovici, the gunslinger from Arizona State or Mike Boss, the pocket passer coming from Boston College are promising prospects at this position. Many of the teams before them already have their QB slot taken up, so they have the pick of the litter at this point. Bercovici offers better accuracy, but as a gunslinger, he can be known to make some mental errors that lead to interceptions. Boss on the other hand has a safer playstyle, but slightly less accuracy coupled with it. It's a toss-up here folks.
An unlikely scenario here, but possible on would be to start shoring up the OL. Angus Winchester of Wisconsin or Bender Rodriguez out of Temple could be the pick here. They'd help open holes for RB Stropko while giving the QB time for Bronko to beat his man deep. The other teams mostly have their QBs, so the Outlaws might not have to hurry to grab theirs, which could make OL an interesting pick.
PNN's Pick: Mike Boss - QB - Boston College[/div]
The waters get rather muddy after the first round of the draft. Any number of scenarios could play out, changing the make-up of the rounds for the rest of the draft. I wasn't the best student in my Divinations class at Hogwarts, so I'll leave the rest of the guessing on particular picks to my readers. Hit me up in the comments with your take.
