The overachieving team at the moment, I personally think the Yeti are currently out performing expectations. For a team that were sitting at .500 last season to be at 5-2 after 7 weeks is phenomenal. That's not to say that they don't deserve to be where they are, just that they currently sit a little higher up the division that I anticipated. Wins against the Sailfish and Berlin are where I think they really made this ground up, while wins against Libery and the Hawks were really victories I expected them to take.
In terms of underachiving, it really has to be the Austin Copperheads. Initially, it was easy to write off their early performances as back luck with the schedule, as they faced the Arizona Outlaws, Sarasota Sailfish and the New York Silverbacks in their first 5 games. That's a really rough run of games and it's understandable to see them a little further down the division than you'd anticipate. However, after losses to Orange County Otters and a tie with San Jose Sabercats, I think they really need to get a few back to back wins over the Yetis, Berlin and the Otters in the upcoming weeks. I still see Austin sneaking into the playoffs but not in the commanding fashion that I initially expected. I genuinely had them competing with Arizona and NYS at the start of the season.
Zach Crossley would attend every birthday party for young fans that was permitted in his schedule. Zach feels so close to the city of San Jose and loves to be a part of the community and give back when he can. Crossley's own children have had the luxury of meeting their favorite players so Zach wishes he could give that back to any child who he is lucky enough to be their favorite player. Crossley also possesses some unique skills that could help brighten up any children's birthday. Zach's Aunt and Uncle ran a magician and clown business in Philadelphia. From his relatives, Zach was able to pick up some basic skills including card tricks and the making of balloon animals. While his skills are a little rough after years of no practice, he is sure that he could still help entertain children after he has done all the signings and greetings that they have requested. Crossley expects just one thing in return for attending these parties, a piece of cake. Zach has an extremely large sweet tooth and always wants to indulge it with frosting. While it may not be the best meal to keep a player in shape, Zach's workout schedule should make cake not a problem to continuing his ISFL career.
When Wasrabi Gleel received a letter from little Jimmy Roberts inviting him to his 10th birthday party, he was extremely flattered. The Chicago Butchers have had their fair share of struggle the last two seasons, and despite the recent shortcomings, little Jimmy’s love for the squad was clear in his letter. So Wasrabi Gleel took the afternoon to go to Party City and pick up all the supplies for a great birthday bash. Streamers, balloons, a pinata shaped like a football, and a custom made Butchers cake shaped like a giant cleaver were purchased, and afterwards he drove to the boys house to surprise him and his family.
And boy were they ever surprise to see the limousine roll up and Gleel step out. Immediately flocked and swarmed by a group of screaming kids, Gleel had to laugh as ten kids simultaneously asked for his autograph. After things settled down a bit, Gleel and the parents were able to organize a simple 7-on-7 flag football game. The kids insisted Gleel play, and after some initial reluctance he relented and decided to play TE like he did in high school.
His team, with little Jimmy at QB, absolutely dominated the other team. Gleel, being that he was literally a man amongst boys on the field, was a sure-handed red zone threat. The highlight play of the game was a beautiful fade route thrown by little Jimmy to the back-right corner of the endzone, where Gleel outstretched one hand and came down with the ball for the final score of the game, 63-7.
PickSix II receives a letter from a young fan asking if he can attend his birthday party. Of course PickSix isn't going to go, he couldn't even hold down a job at his high school to be a replacement football coach because there was no money involved. PickSix does not do charity work, he's not a role model, he's simply a football player. Does some random retail casher show up to a random birthday party if asked? of course not, so why should PickSix waste his time with some young fan? It's not like the young fan has money to pay for his merchandise or tickets to go see his games.
PickSix isn't totally heartless tho, he will send the fan some vouchers for the stadium buffet to the fan can pay for tickets to come see him play and get a 10% discount at the restaurant for his birthday meal because PickSix does care about the fans, just not in the way most people care about fans. PickSix will even tell the clubhouse guy to take a signed football to the birthday fan if he comes and watches him play next time. What a deal! a limited edition PickSix signed ball for one lucky birthday fan!
PickSix will also include a letter that simply says. 'Charity begins at home'
