(S32) PT 4 - Retirement

The time for Zach Crossley to hang up his cleats and retire from the ISFL is near. While some former players go on to make a big splash in their post ISFL lives, Crossley does not have as high of ambitions. Instead, he would like to return to his hometown of Philadelphia. There he plans on taking a job at his former high school lower Merion as a coach. However, Crossley doesn't have his eye on football coaching, rather his first true love: Track & Field. Crossley wants to go and give back to the school that allowed him to first find his love of the 800 meters. In that race and on that team, Crossley developed his love for sports and the team atmosphere they bring. He feels there is no better competition in the world than the race against the clock and yourself as you try to better you time each race. Crossley hopes to encourage more athletes from his hometown to try track and field as it allows for every athlete to develop skills that can be used in other sports and in life.

When it comes time for Orpheus to retire, he'd probably like to stay close to the game if he could. Maybe not necessarily through the ISFL but being a coach at the high school level would still allow him to mentor young players while also having time to pursue other desires in his retirement. There are two other endeavors that Orpheus has for his time in retirement. The first being that he would really like to break in to the food industry. He enjoys dabbling in cooking and loves the joy that making good food brings to others. The Czargyros brothers have workshopped a few ideas such as Czargyros Gyros, which could easily be implemented as a food truck and could help them connect with their community more by being able to pop up at local events. Orpheus has a baklava cinnamon roll recipe he has been working on that could be a perfect pairing with the family gyro recipe. Orpheus also has a strange desire to get into chicken farming; just getting a plot of land somewhere with a rustic cottage and some land to raise chickens. Certainly he has a lot to learn in that area but who doesn't like some farm fresh eggs? Also chickens make adorable and fiercely loyal pets.

I am just a few seasons away from retirement, and I think I should have spent some more time thinking about this, because I have very little savings and investments. Man, football is all I've known for the past 20+ years of my life, and now that my body can't do it anymore? I'm not sure what I'm gonna be doing.

To be fair, I have made a lot of investments over the course of my life that just never really worked out. The biggest one is probably the Hu Cares Foundation, which recently had to shut down due to fraud. I knew I should have hired some more obedient--I mean, better accountants. It's my own damn fault for being cheap, and it has ultimately cost me pretty much every dime I've made in my life.

Maybe if I suffer a career ending injury or something, I can be on disability for the rest of my life. I've paid so many taxes on my earnings, I should be able to start having them work for me, right?!

De'Aaron Harper has finally decided to hang up the cleats. He gives a tearful final press conference before walking off into the sunset. Everyone who has ever met Harper knows that he loves 2 things in this world more than anything else, his family and football. He takes a job coaching at a local high school so he can spend time with his son, who is just a couple years away from making varsity as a freshman, just as Harper did. Harper is known as a players coach and his innovative defensive schemes give local QBs nightmares. His high school wins a state championship in his second year. One year later his son, Kiari Harper, makes his debut as a starting WR on the varsity team. Harper is known for not giving out any special treatment and he doesn't give any to Kiari, at least not publicly. Harper is happy that he can stay around the game and the people that he loves.

Raphael Delacour, on the advice of his father, has already started preparing for his post-playing days. His degree from Harvard is in Film Studies, and he has already produced and directed, as well as acted in movies, so it's not a stretch to assume he might pursue a career in film and/or television once he hangs up his cleats.

Most recently, he has starred in Tobias Akinbobo's series "The Abominables", which he co-produced, and Akinbobo is said to be excited about working with Delacour in the future. "Raphael is a talented young man," Akinbobo said. "He has excellent vision and has already contributed some fantastic ideas to our projects. I think he is one of a number of exciting young talents in cinema, and I'm hoping he will extend his time working with us here at Flying Thunder Studios."

Delacour, for his part, has never shied away from his desire to work in film, and despite already amassing a sizeable fortune, has no intention of retiring to a life of luxury once his playing career is over. "Where's the fun in that?" He asked.

When marquees Acho jr. retires, his life path is going to look much different than his father, who was a GM in the league, and held other positions as well post-retirement. Acho Jr wants the flexibility to do what he loves, and much of that consists of nature and community outreach programs, specifically centered around mental health issues. Acho Jr. biggest priority would be to create a farm for dogs that are going to be put down in high-kill shelters. He also may take on something low key, like coaching a local high school football team or running youth camps.

Acho doesn’t foresee himself doing anything related to the public eye. That means no commentary or any hosting sports media. He stays away from the public eye as an OL on the league, and that’s how he prefers to keep it going forward.

Even though retirement is far away for Acho Jr, this plan is likely set for when that day comes.
