As Hurricane Harvey was bearing down on the Gulf coast, San Antonio Marshals running back Carter Bush was volunteering with the San Antonio SPCA. Bush was cleaning out cages, washing blankets, and portioning out food in preparation for the facility to receive animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey. After the storm, Bush took trips to Houston to bring displaced animals to areas less impacted by the hurricane. Bush participated in fundraisers with both his image and his time. He took part in public photo opportunities and also worked n the call centers. When he wasn't working to raise money, he was back at the shelter. He was walking the dogs, playing with them, cleaning their cages, and feeding them. Bush also made a large cash donation to the San Antonio SPCA to ensure that these animals could continue to receive the best accommodations possible during their stay with the San Antonio SPCA.
