Paul Blart: Mall Cop saved save my marriage.
We were in a rough patch. We were arguing all the time. The bedroom was dead. We hadn't been on a date in weeks. We started acting real petty towards each other. I remember staying out with people who weren't even really my friends just because I'd rather be out with strangers than at home.
One night after another argument I decided to blow off some steam and watch some TV. She wanted to watch the Bachelor. I was pretty mad and feeling petty so instead I clicked some random movie on Netflix. It was Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
It turns out it was the best decision I'd ever made.
We watched the movie in complete silence, astonished by what unfolded before our eyes. By the time Paul Blart uttered the line "If you remember one thing from today, it's this: the mind is the only weapon that doesn't need a holster," we were in tears.
We hugged. We cried. We hugged some more. We cried again.
And just like that, in the blink of a moment, we realized that our marriage was so much more than we had treated it. We could do anything we put our minds to. And that included having a beautiful marriage - one that we had always dreamed of.
I asked her what was something I should appreciate more about her. She said "I know a lot about sharks." She asked me what I was thinking. I said "Nobody wins a headbutt."
That night, we rekindled our marriage in a way that I had never dreamed possible. Now, we couldn't be happier.
Never give up hope. There is light all around us, we just have to know where to look. And for me, that light was Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
