In light of the news of the retirement of the Arizona Outlaws long-time starting quarterback King Bronko, I figured it would be fitting to focus the discussion on his career and consider whether he is worthy to make the Hall of Fame.
Many people are referencing Arizona’s three consecutive championship wins in the first three seasons of the league’s history as one reason why he should make. But, if you look closer, Bronko wasn’t even a starter in his first season. The inaugural championship was claimed thanks to the efforts of then-starting quarterback, Vincent Draxel. Bronko took over in Season 2, and should rightfully be credited with two championship wins he actually played a part in. I was tempted to bring up Er, but the Outlaws dominance was such that I have a hard time believing the efforts of one player – and his multis – was the tipping point. I think they would have won at least one regardless.
The real selling point for Bronko as a Hall-of-Famer is his stats. He has the second-most passing completions in NSFL history, the second-most passing yards and passing TDs, and the third-best passer rating. The only player able to eclipse his numbers is arguably the greatest NSFL player of all time: Mike Boss.
So, in conclusion: yes, King Bronko deserves to be in the HOF.
