During the draft, Hawaii Offensive Lineman Jogn Floggity made it clear that he wanted to be drafted somewhere warm, and with a rollercoaster. It must have been a suprise then, when he heard his name called as the second pick of the 5th round, 26th overall by the Yellowknife Wraiths, the third lineman off the board - and just one pick after the Orange County Otters selected Wisconsin's Angus Winchester.
Floggity claims that his earlier comments about Yellowknife being a "5 coffee-house-ass hick town" should be taken in jest, but it does seem clear to this reporter that Wraiths management had to open up the bank account to get him to commit to the Northwest Territories - Floggity is currently the highest earning player in a single season.
Floggity's offseason was quiet - while he vastly outpreformed the two other players who regularly lined up at center (Tim Tebow of the Sabercats and Saggitariutt Jefferspin of the Outlaws), he failed to record double-digit pancakes, and finished 7th in Adjusted Sack Total.
When asked, Floggity had this to say: “Look, the Lions destroyed all 4 of their preseason games in 2008, and we all remember how that ended up. I’m proud of my performances, and I wouldn't trade my statline for the competition. My aim is to finish without giving up a yard, and I'm on track for that"
Only time will tell if Floggity will pick up his performance or simply coast in an offense that may need everything it has to beat back the resurgent Baltimore Hawks. For now, I'm Tim Fenn, News/North.
