It's a tough road either way to be sure. I know nothing about graphics but let's take my analytical media piece I submitted as an example. Sure I know some statistics (nothing too crazy) and lots about spreadsheets and analytics, so for me to do that kind of a data piece isn't an all-day project (still takes time and effort though).
Now let's say another guy wants to talk analysis and doesn't really have the same experience but still puts forth a lot of effort in data collection, figures out an appropriate methodology, and has a little trial and error. He ends up doing an analysis on what wide receivers are the most consistent week-to-week by comparing their standard deviation, a rather simple metric by analytical standards but something he worked really hard on and still provides really interesting results.
That might take me 20 minutes, it could take a beginner hours depending how long they spent researching proper methodologies for their piece. I'd hate to see him measured using the same yardstick as me just because I do this for a living.
