1) IT IS OUR TIME THIS (NEXT) YEAR - Can be completed anytime
To think the Liberty could be considered for the Ultimus next season or even the one after is a bit far-fetched but for the sake of this PT, I'll try to convince people that it could be possible soon... and probably not succeed in doing so because even I don't believe it's possible. But hey with sim leagues, anything can happen and we came close to beating the Hawks this season so I guess you never know.
The thing holding us back as a team is probably our passing game. We have one of, if not the best running back in the League in Marquise Brown and our defense has won us games a couple of times. If my general managers could get me one or ideally two good receivers, I think we would look a lot better. For now I have von Matt and Bush as my receivers but it would help tremendously to have other targets to throw the ball to. We rely too much on our running game and it works well for the most part but I think including more passing in our strategy could make us move from "oh damn those Philly folks certainly scared us" to "oh damn those Philly folks ruined my predictions because they were too good".
2) SPOTLIGHT ON THE YOUTH - Can be completed anytime
Let's talk about a player on the Champs' roster, the Orange County Otters. I would like to mention Sunnycursed as a player who had a big impact on the Ultimus Bowl game.
His performance in the ASFC finals was a bit underwhelming, totalizing gains of only 55 yards but it is to be expected with a receiver such as Crush on your team. He still did great on his receptions, almost averaging 10 yards per catch.
But as a rookie, he really shined in the Ultimus Bowl game. He nearly doubled his gains in yards and most importantly, made important catches when his team needed it most. Indeed, he scored the first touchdown of the match for the Otters and then had another very important one in the second quarter to give the lead back to his team. The Otters would never lose the lead again after that.
Again, players like Crush or Atwell had more gain in yards during the game but for a rookie on his first Ultimus Bowl game, I think Sunnycursed did extremely well and gave a great performance after a disappointing one in the ASFC finals. The future looks good for the Otters, even if they will be losing an important piece with Atwell retiring.
3) PRE-GAME or...POST-GAME - Can be completed before or after based on choice.
When the New Orleans Second Line failed to qualify for the playoffs, it was confirmed that the League would crown a new champion.
The playoffs had a logical conclusion, since the leaders of both conferences, the Baltimore Hawks and the Orange County Otters reached the finals. The Philadelphia Liberty gave the Hawks quite a scare but ultimately failed to win the game in overtime. In the ASFC, the Otters didn't get much resistance from the San Jose Sabercats.
The game started well for the Hawks and they were leading the Otters 14-7 early in the second quarter. Even by halftime, the game was still within reach with Orange County leading by only 3 points.
Everything went to hell in the third quarter when the Otter machine started working for real and they scored three touchdowns in around 10 minutes. They added one more in the fourth and there wasn't much the Hawks could do to come back in the game. It's not like the Hawks played an awful game but Showbiz showed up when it counted, with his 5 passing touchdowns.
Blackford Oakes made it more exciting for the Hawks fans late in the game by scoring a touchdown on a 44 yard interception but it was too little too late.
4) QUARTERBACK MATCHUP - Can be completed anytime
Both conference finals seemed to have interesting QB matchups, a mix of youth and experience as the Philadelphia Liberty took on the Baltimore Hawks and the San Jose Sabercats finally found their way back to the post season by playing the Orange County Otters.
The Sabercats had an impressive season and split their matches with the Otters at one victory and one loss. One could believe that this meant it would be an interesting matchup and that the ASFC finals would be a close game.
Unfortunately, the Cats were simply no match for the Otters and Gus T. T. Showbiz showed Joliet L. Christ that he was the best in the game, eventually capturing the Ultimus Cup against the Baltimore Hawks in another disappointing game where the Hawks didn't really stand a chance.
In the ASFC finals, Showbiz threw three TD passes to three different receivers and added insult to injury by helping Ricky Adams score his second touchdown of the night with only 14 seconds left to the game.
On the other side of the field, Christ couldn't score any passing touchdowns and the Cats' only TD came early in the game, with a 6 yard run by Jerrod Canton.
It's not all bad for the Sabercats though, since they were able to qualify quite comfortably for the postseason for just the second time in their history and with Christ as their quarterback and receivers such as Xavier Flash, the future is very bright for this young team.
