Through the first four weeks of the season, I can say this is the most complete team the San Jose SaberCats have had that I am aware of. We have our offense finally firing on all cylinders and able to keep pace with opposing furious offense. Our defense may bend and break a bit, though when called upon, we can start a rally and signal to the offense "go close the gap!"
Should we finally fulfill the promise this team has and win the Ultimus, the parade in San Jose would be massive. At long last, the city would have a team to celebrate in the streets, and the rings would be the finest gold studded in shimmering emeralds to make the SaberCats logo. Along the bottom, a strip of gold would separate the words "Season 12 Champions" from the logo. That sucker would either need to be pretty big or finely handmade.
Kolby Deringer would be inseparable from his companions in the SaberCats' front seven on defense, the cohort drafted and built which drove their playoff appearance last season. Though, let's be honest, Jerrod Canton and Joliet Christ would be out at the front of the parade alongside the club's ownership and management. That would be fine. They would be more than deserving to sit at the head of the procession. Deringer would be content to just see his family come up from Texas and keep pace for at least a bit.
For now, though, the celebration is an unjustified dream. We have to earn that fanfare first.
