Being a fan of the San Jose Sabercats was not easy this year. There were many times that fans should have given up hope, but for whatever reason... they did not.
After the third straight loss, One fan is particular showed up with a paper bag on his head, with slitted (cat like) eyes and some crudely painted on whiskers. He was shown a few times on the jumbotron and after the game, he got a small interview and was asked a few questions. He told the media that he is definitely a sabercats fan, but the record is kind of embarassing, so he felt that it was probably better to hide his face instead of being associated with the sabercats.
Something really interesting happened at the next game. A few more fans had the same simple paper bag on their heads with decorated cat like features. Again another loss. This continued on for some time.
Finally after a lot of losing, and more people joining in on the tradition, almost the entire stadium was wearing these bags on their heads... And finally, the sabercats won a game. When the game ended, everyone took off their bags and threw them in the air. A sabercat player was quoted saying: "The energy of the fans that game was amazing. I don't care if they wear bags on their heads, if they show up and cheer for us, I don't care what they wear... And I hope they will continue to be fans, bag or no."
