5) Armchair GM
I think the Austin Copperheads are in a good spot to thrive for years to come. Coming off of an Ultimus Championship, we will have the last pick in the draft. However, I believe that our best bet would be to sit back and snipe some good players that are flying under most teams radars while holding on to all of our picks. I would prioritize the secondary, as we have one of the scariest defensive lines in the entire league. I think a solid young SS/FS acquisition would shore up our already solid defense. Then, I think trading for a veteran linebacker to help backup our line would be the cherry on top. We have seen the impact that Mo Berry has made this past year, and getting a weapon similar to him would greatly bolster our defense. Offensively, I think a WR is essential. I (Jacoby Clay) will be entering my second season, but we have 2 veteran WR’s in the starting lineup, one facing regression. I think grabbing another young WR now and letting them develop would actually be a smart play here. We have a solid WR 1-3 lineup, but throwing in a fresh body on long drives later in the game could prove useful. (209 Words)
6) Expansion
I would love to run a NSFL expansion team. I work 40 hours a week, and I have obligations outside of the league. However, finding this league has been awesome. This experience is definitely one of the most exciting things going on in my life right now, and I genuinely enjoy it. My main strategy for running an expansion team is playing for the end game. However, I would not be stingy with my draft picks. Being an expansion team, I would be guaranteed a high draft pick which I would use to take a good player, and a leader for the team. I would for sure use one or more early picks on a veteran player who could be the other center piece of the team. My draft strategy would be simple. Drafting the best player at the position of need that is available. Expansion teams need as many quality picks as they can get, and I would thoroughly scout out players that fit the category. Lastly, and one of the most important strategies of an expansion team would to pick up some late steals. IA players can be useful, but those active players right at the end of a draft can really make an okay team great. Snagging a player who is new to the league and mentoring them is what happened to me, and I would love to see overlooked players shine in the league. (238 Words)
8) Scouting Report
I will be highlighting a special player, and an even more special person, Prince Vegeta A.K.A Jeffie. Vegeta, along with Warren, terrorized offenses in the DSFL. He was tied for 6th overall in Tackles, but more importantly he was the ONLY safety in the top 10, the rest of the players being Linebackers. He was an effective player in the secondary, as well as an excellent weapon with the front 7. Being a safety, his main job is to aid against the pass. Vegeta also had 4 tackles for loss, proving that he is an extremely versatile player with elite talent cross the board. Along with those TFL’s he tacked on 1 sack on the year. His 7 PD’s seem low, but he does his job as the last line of defense for the defense with there only being one other safety ahead of him in the category. Stats are well and good, but he will also be a leader on the field and in the Locker Room. He is an extremely active player and earns TPE at an extremely high rate. I think he should be on every single NSFL teams draft board, and realistically is first round material for teams looking at the safety position. He will make an amazing player and teammate for an NSFL team in this upcoming draft! (223 Words)
16) Dynasty
I have already said it in an earlier topic, but I believe Austin is primed to possibly run the league for a few years. We have an incredible GM duo who are intelligent and devoted to making the team the best it can be. We have a few young players who are improving more and more each day, and it is extremely fun to watch our team go out and compete every single week. The fact that Adam took the risk and went all in during the S20 draft says it all. This team has cemented itself as an Ultimus contender. The GM’s made the moves to improve, and we as players did our job and worked our hardest. Everything down to the special teams were firing on all cylinders. Even though we only had a couple players nominated for awards, I think we all filled our roles perfectly. While I was not nominated for any awards, I did my job as the QB’s 3rd option, and I made the most out of what I was given. The same can be said for every player in a Copperheads uniform. It was a privilege to play for the Austin Copperheads this season, and I hope to stay here for many more years to come. (213 Words)
