A fan tradition of Yellowknife that has previously been mentioned is that of the ritual sacrifice mentioned in regards to the Yellowknife mascot. Here we will discuss it in a bit more detail. It starts at the beginning of the season, a list of the most fanatic supporters is generated from the major fan groups and is passed on to the team. The team then picks an appropriate amount of fans (one per home game) and backups and properly vets them before the next stage.
During the final practice day before the game, a name is chosen from the list and is brought in to be fitted for the ceremonial robes and hood. They are given a crash course on Yellowknife Wraith history from the team's creation in 2017 through the heartbreaking conference championship loss through the present day. They then go through a practice run, and join the team afterward for the final session of the day. Game day comes and the sacrifice is prepared, there is alot of dancing and chanting, and before kickoff, the ceremonial dagger comes out, the supporter is sacrificed and is raised up as an actual ghostly Wraith, his body joining the others who have come before and sent under the stadium. While odd, it is hard to argue results, as the Wraiths 6-1 home record shows that something is going right up in Yellowknife.
