With the free agent list being posted earlier this morning, it’s now obvious I’ll be testing free agency upon the conclusion of the Ultimus game tonight. I thought I would provide a little insight into my thoughts headed into the offseason.
First, a little history about my time in the league. I created my first player during the S2 season. Despite being drafted in the 2nd round, I would consider myself the steal of that draft. I went on to have a long career that was moderately successful earning a few awards along the way and a single Ultimus ring with Baltimore in S10. During a several month hiatus with the site, I will still connected with some players here through werewolf so was never truly disconnected and was talked into returning and recreating last November. With real life getting the the way, I haven't had much time to be active on the forums or in discord. With Coronavirus, I'm finding myself with a little more free time now.
Skipping ahead, I began as an RB before using my free DSFL position switch to move to defensive end. I entered the S21 draft with ~225 TPE (earned, not applied) which was top 10-15 on draft day. Keeping with my M.O., I slide down in the S21 draft board all the way to round 6. Fast forward just 1 season and I would once again consider myself a potential steal at this point despite my mediocre TPE earnings so far. I find this to be my main motivation to keep earning TPE. With that said, lets take a look at the teams and see if I can narrow down a potential landing spot and long term home for my career.
San Jose Sabercats –
I’ll start with the Sabercats specifically because they have the current opportunity to extend me. Unfortunately, contract negotiations broke down rather quickly and it’s been radio silence ever since. Being an S21 player, I would have been auto-protected during the expansion draft but that’s not a factor at this point. Since this team does not have a FA pass, there is no way I will be returning to San Jose.
I’ll stick with the ASFC:
Arizona Outlaws –
With three young defensive tackles and an aging defensive end, there is room for me on the starting roster. I have some history with GM Unicorn from by old Baltimore days so there is a connection there. While this would not be my top destination, I would not rule them out if the conversation and negotiation are favorable.
Austin Copperheads –
Full transparency, leading into the S21 draft this was one of the teams I was hoping would draft me. I liked the culture they had created. Instead, they draft Riles McTackle 10th overall and filled their defensive line needs. While I may be an upgrade on their defensive line, the need just isn’t there. Unless they are hit hard during the expansion draft, I don’t expect them to reach out.
New Orleans Second Line –
I do not see myself fitting into their locker room culture and cannot see myself signing with NOLA.
Orange County Otters –
Shout out to their GM Laser who was the first GM to scout me and also the only GM to stray from typically generic scouting questions. This is another testament as to why this franchise is continually successful. Despite that, I knew when that conversation ended I was not going to be an Otter. All things considered, I wouldn’t assume much to have changed. They are still perennial playoff contenders and they don’t need my services to continue that trend. While I am open to conversations, I don’t think they can offer me what I am looking for.
Over to the NSFC:
Baltimore Hawks –
I have good history with this team although I’m not familiar with current regime. It appears that they may have a need on the defensive line as well. Matt Hole is developing for them in the DSFL so they may be better off that it initially appears. Their main concern will be the cap space they have available.
Chicago Butchers –
I don’t know what to even say about this team. I’m not going to pile on to what has already been a long season for them. This was another team I thought might draft me in S21. They had many needs that it was anyone’s guess what they were going to prioritize. At the end of the day, they filled other needs and there are no hard feelings. In Spite of everything, I think their money could be better spent elsewhere but I’m not above taking a big payout if they want to venture down that path.
Colorado Yeti –
Their defensive line looks solid. It would be nice to reunite with nunccoepi as well as a few other familiar names on their roster however, I don’t know if the need is there. They did just lose John Smirh to Chicago but could easily replace him with any of the solid S22 players. If the money is right, I am not opposed to joining Colorado.
Philadelphia Liberty –
Being a long time Hawk, my first thought of Philly is not great. However, IamSLM is over there and seems to enjoy it so it can’t be all bad. They did swing and miss on Jeff Personsacker as the 21st overall in the S21 draft leaving me sitting and waiting for another 31 picks. Will I hold that against? Probably. As is most things, that could be remedied with money.
Yellowknife Wraiths –
This was another team I was hoping to be drafted by in S21. There was a little communication with scouting prior to the draft but I likely scared them away with my desire for a healthy contract. With that being said, they appear to have a complete 2nd roster full of players stashed away in the DSFL. I’m looking to play in the NSFL in S22 and I don’t know if this team can utilize me.
Expansion Teams:
Honolulu Hahalua –
I am not a fan of alliterative team names and Hahalua is kind of ridiculous. With that out of the way, this would be a top destination for me. Reconnecting with their GM Raven and being part of a new franchise is appealing to me. Plus I think I would look good in a grass skirt. If we can come to terms on a contract, I could see myself moving to Hawaii.
Sarasota Sailfish –
Another expansion team with an alliterative name. Unfortunately for them, they don’t have Raven. Aside from that, being a piece in an expansion team is a cool idea for me. Plus, I already have a summer home in Cape Coral so Sarasota would kind of feel like home.
That wraps it up. The common theme throughout is I am looking for some money. I’m not about the minimum contract right now. Also, I can only sign for a max of 2 seasons due to only signing 1 year rookie deal to begin with. With 225 TPE banked, my new GM can build the defensive lineman they need to fit their scheme.
You have my permission to post whatever criticism you want. I am an adult and I can handle it. #NoTamper

TL;DR – While a couple teams are preferred, I will sign with anyone except SJS and NOLA if the money is right.
