Buckle up, folks. It’s about to get crazy. With one week remaining, there is plenty of time for movement among the playoff seeds. San Jose, Austin, and New Orleans are all within one game of each other in the ASFC, while the expansion Sarasota Sailfish are only one game out of the third playoff spot in the NSFC.
Let’s assume Austin, Orange County, New Orleans, Sarasota, Yellowknife, and Colorado win tonight. In that scenario, it looks like Orange County locks up the one seed in the ASFC while San Jose and New Orleans have to go to tiebreakers (Philadelphia and Sarasota also go to tiebreakers in the NSFC, but it doesn’t matter for this completely realistic scenario) for the three seed, right? Wrong.
Sometime over the next two days, a massive league scandal is uncovered. San Jose, Austin, and New Orleans are banned from postseason competition. That leaves Arizona and Honolulu as the two and three seed. Arizona proceeds to shutout Honolulu behind a 400-yard, 6 TD performance from Jay Cue, win in triple overtime against Orange County when Baby Yoda rips off a 63-yard TD run, and vanquish Yellowknife in the championship game on a goal line pick six from eventual defensive rookie of the year Zamir Kehla.
What a shocking way to end S22!
