There isn’t a dark horse team that can make a run in the NSFL playoffs this season. The only potential option would be that of the Sarasota Failfish, but that dream was cut short pretty quickly by an early safety by the Colorado Yeti. The Yeti mopped the floor with the Sailfish. And that leaves the following teams to choose from: Yellowknife, Orange County, New Orleans, Austin, and Colorado. Well, nobody is ever going to consider Orange County a dark horse ever. Yellowknife had the best record in the league at 11-2, even if it was inflated by playing in the very weak NSFC. New Orleans just won the Ultimus last season, and it doesn’t matter anymore because Austin defeated them in the other wild card game. Austin is on an 8 game winning streak after starting 1-4-1. So I guess Colorado is the Dark Horse remaining. This was a “down” year for the Yeti, as they’re slowly inching towards a rebuild, but even a down year for a decent team makes you a playoff team in the shitty conference. The problem is, I don’t see them being able to beat Yellowknife in Yellowknife. As a result, I see the Wraiths moving on to lose in the Ultimus, as is tradition. On the ASFC side of things, we get the exciting Austin vs Orange County matchup in the ASFC Title game, which in recent seasons has been even more exciting than the Ultimus. Everyone knows what happened the last time these two teams met in Orange County, as the Easton Cole 63 yard scramble for a Touchdown with the entire Otters’ Defense on his back is the season’s most memorable play. Cole will be a big part of Austin’s success of course, so it’ll be fun to see what he can do in this one. Sadly, it feels like Orange County will get some revenge, and they’ll move on to dust the Wraiths in Ultimus. We’ll see though! (329)
