Recently drafted in the fourth round by the Yellowknife Wraiths, safety Marcus Kane steps to the podium and is now taking any and all questions.[/div]
I am beyond excited to join the Wraiths, they were one of my top teams from day one. The management and I had a good rapport from the get go and I was familiar with some of the players on the roster. If I was pumped before you should see how their draft went, good things are happening in Yellowknife.
I think Cushing has more size and was scouted as a linebacker at Houston so if you were to ask me I would say he might line up inside the box and I will stay a bit higher in coverage. That is just my guess, the coaching staff will have to make that decision and I will do my best to be prepared for anything.
Everyone wants to be a first round pick and I was no different but I knew there wasn't enough game tape to showcase my talents. I hope in a few seasons people will look back and wonder how I fell to the fourth round. Sliding a few rounds will give me a chip on my shoulder and I am going to make the Wraiths a team that people fear.
I was busy doing team stuff!!
I am most excited to play with fellow rookies Kevin Cushing and Dermot Lavelle. Being drafted together gives us a bond but also lets us have our friendly rivalry. Being able to grow together and compare our stats as our careers advance is a tantalizing prospect.
I expect to be a feared tackler who can stack the box and punish running backs but also come up with a big interception to seal the game. I want to be feared for my physical game but also respected for my cerebral abilities.
I don't model myself after any one player because there has and will never be a perfect player. I find myself watching a different player each day and trying to copy their strengths. I think a lot of fans don't realize that we don't just watch game film and try to be that other player. We talk to them and we find out how they work out and train. That's how we get better.
I relish the challenge of lining up against an elite talent like Garden. What I will learn from him will far outweigh the embarrassment of getting torched. If I can get on his level can you imagine what I could do to the other receivers I will face?
