I did post a solution. In this very thread. It was only an hour ago, though, so maybe your goal was to not bother considering it until it's been ignored for over a week. Here it is again:
"I get that you've gotten some players overestimating the value of their pending work, but instead of cutting this off cold turkey, couldn't we instead say that you simply can't go below ZERO for gear, but still allow pending work? This would ensure that no one came close to the -2 million cut off."
