DeSoto teamed up with his teammate Matt Cross to perform a rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” at a local community theatre, with ticket sales going to support the local food bank. DeSoto would play Santa Claus, of course, and the performance would go essentially true to the story, until Cross, playing the man who’s house Santa is visiting, sees Santa coming out of his fireplace. Cross would play a man unaware of the legend of Santa Claus and would promptly grab a shotgun to defend his home from the intruder, leading to a humorous chase sequence into the crowd, leaving many children screeching from enjoyment. The rest of the show would follow a slapstick comedy format, similar to the Three Stooges and Tom and Jerry, with Cross continuously getting fooled and humiliated while Santa drops presents around the house. The show would have no moral lesson (or any substance at all really) and would simply end with Cross shaking his fist at Santa flying away, screaming “I’ll get you next year you red suited freak!” The crowds were packed every night for this ludicrous display, and with each ticket costing one thousand dollars, the Liberty defensive pairing were able to donate 15 million dollars to the food bank. Cross mentioned that outside of the charity work, the true joy came from living out his fantasy of pointing a gun at DeSoto.
