Behind the jersey and the seated helmet are pictures of a receiving great. Perhaps not a hall of famer, or even the best receiver of the last year, but rather, a critical and under appreciated piece of the offense, Anquan Boldin. Now, that's not to say that receivers, especially talented receivers are usually under appreciated, but that the sort of receiver role he plays flys under the radar when it comes to fans.
Possession receivers are the spine of football teams. They keep it propped up, they're the sigh of relief after a third and long, and often enough they're the reason a team wins or loses. Boldin has shown consistently that he is one of the best possession receivers of all time, if not the best. Without him the Ravens wouldn't have won Superbowl 51, nor would Stafford had seen the level of success he did last year in Detroit.
When it comes to the stat sheets, Boldin might not always look sexy, but if you would pay attention to the space between the lines, you'll see a guy that sacrifices his ego for the team and that's exactly what I aspire to be. It's one of the most commendable ways to play the game in my opinion. Especially in a time when it seems as if everybody out there wants to be the next O'Dell Beckham or something. Being loud isn't always a plus. That goes for off and on the field.
