Training camp was interesting for Jake Fencik for one reason, preseason trick plays that involved using him at RB, WR, TE, or OL. The idea is that a WR runs a route, and the QB throws the ball to Fencik, who then kicks the ball to the receiver who should be open after the defenders see the ball to go Fencik. The play had mixed results, where sometimes it resulted in a wide open TD, and sometimes it didn't work at all. What this also did for Fencik was greatly improve his accuracy with kicking and punting. During training camp he also focused on not getting the ball to land inside the 20, he was aiming higher. He wanted to get it inside the 5 every time. When not pressured he was able to do this around 95% of the time from anywhere past his own 20. During field goal practice, he was consistently able to hit from 64 and below. On kickoffs he wanted to try to make life harder for the return man, so he practiced kicking the ball higher and farther, and was able to consistently get the ball to land at the 3 yard line with 5.2 seconds of hangtime.
