Task One:
Today, I'm going to talk about each teams path to the playoffs for 10 TPE. It's gonna be 800 words of this, so let's get right into it.
Let's start out with the Berlin Fire Salamanders. After a 1-3 preseason, the Salamanders looked in trouble. Maybe this season wouldn't be good for them, and their chances on an appearance wouldn't happen. However, something crazy would happen. In Week One, The Fire Salamanders quieted doubters with a 38-16 win over the defending champions Yellowknife Wraiths. Holding Colby Jack to just one touchdown pass and having a great defense to help them get the dub. However, the next two weeks saw a struggle. They had two straight losses to Sarasota and Colorado, allowing 30+ points to each squad after holding Yellowknife to just 16 in Week One. It looked like a bump in the road for the previous 12-4 squad. Then a bounce back Week against the Chicago Butchers was nice, as they won 30-17 with a good game from Tychondrius Hood and Cmon Skiuuup each having over 100 yards receiving. But a big part of the success this season was from one trade, as Berlin acquired the legend Tyron Shields just a week after making him burnt toast. Shields would finish this season with FIVE interceptions, a career high and pretty impressive. After acquiring Shields, the Fire Salamanders would not allow 30+ points in a game after, only losing one game also, against a Second Line team that led to a score of 21-20. The team performed great, highlighted by box scores of 50-21 against Austin or 52-13 against Baltimore. The team won their final 8 games after a tough start, which also led to the best record in the league. I wouldn't be shocked to see them as Ultimus winners.
Next, we have the 12-4 Colorado Yeti. As a Colorado native, I'm happy to see a team from Colorado succeed, puts a nice smile on my face. The team would have a pedestrian 2-2 preseason. The Week One matchup against Sarasota was close, seeing the team have a 23-14 lead with 7:56 left in the third, only to give up 9 points but luckily get the win 26-23. Week Two saw a blowout loss to Chicago, but was followed up with wins versus Berlin and Honolulu. A blowout loss to the defending champs would then lead this team to a great stretch of wins. They scored 30+ points for 5 weeks straight, 30 POINTS. That's a minimum of 4 scoring drives per game. A 47-17 win after the Yellowknife loss would fuel this offensive burst. This would be followed by a 38-7 win versus Baltimore, with great games from this years arguably best receiver William Lim and Harvard product Raphael Delacour showing up to gametime. The next big game would be against Baltimore, with a 51-17 game even though Lim and Delacour produced, running back Dick Gilbert would have two receiving touchdowns in the final game of the win streak. They would end the season 2-2 and finish 12-4, looking to maybe upset the Salamanders.
Next, let's talk about the Arizona Outlaws, the best team in the ASFC at 11-5. After a perfect preseason, which saw the Outlaws outscore opponents 142-39, the Outlaws had VERY high hopes entering the season, who wouldn't? They started off the season VERY hot, winning their first FIVE games and seeing 40+ points 3 times in that streak, only failing to surpass 30 once. Two loses to New Orleans and Berlin killed the once red hot Outlaws, but they would rebound this by winning 19-9 against the Philadelphia Liberty, allowing no points until the later half of the fourth quarter. Another loss the Week after would put the Outlaws at 6-3, which is ok, but with a 5-0 start I would of expected better. They would go on streaks of winning two games and losing two games, before acquiring top offensive lineman Julio Jones in Week 14, a huge upgrade for that offensive line and skilled quarterback Charlemagne Cortez. The team would go on to finish the season with 3 straight wins, giving the Outlaws an 11-5 record. To be honest, I'm not sure if the Outlaws will have the best chance at a ring, Jones is a huge upgrade but has only played with them for 3 games, can this carry on is the only question, because when Arizona gets hot, they win a lot.
I'll do one more team...
The Sarasota Sailfish, ah yes. The team with the most points scored this season finished tied second in the NSFC with 487 points. With a quarterback like Mike Boss Jr, you can expect offense to be a huge problem for the opponents. You can see that this team is offensive heavy, as in all except one win, the Sailfish scored 30+ points, never scoring above 50 however. That's pretty efficient for a team that went on a 6 game win streak after losing Week One. I'm making this one quick because I am tired and I want to go to sleep, but to the Sailfish, you guys killed it, keep it up, you will need offense in the playoffs, but don't leave your defense at the airport.
Ok I think I did it. Thanks grader for reading!
