6. Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.
I’m finally doing Ultimus Week, after not planning to this season. Just a word of warning, this will be a bit of some long-running rambles, though they’ll all be directly related to the league. Anyways, another year, another disappointment as I’m still waiting on my first playoff win since I’ve joined the league. Still happy with how good Zona has been recently though, I think we’ll eventually see some success before I retire. It’s just a few seasons to go until I hit forced retirement, but I think I’m still viable at OL for a bit. I don’t plan on leaving Zona, but there’s a chance that once I become worse than a bot they’ll opt to stick with the more expensive route in a bot. And when I say that I know that Crunk and Z wouldn’t just ditch me to FA, I’m sure that for my sake they’d be more than willing to keep me with the team. However, if it’s legitimately better for the team I’d be willing to leave of my own accord on good terms. In that event, I’d probably advertise myself as free salary cap relief for any team that needs it, whether it be a contender trying to fit in a big FA for a push or a rebuilding team that doesn’t have any need for higher TPE bot OL and would rather spend cap space on bonuses for younger players. Not saying that I want to leave Zona, just speculating on my future for the sake of getting my thoughts out there and adding some words. Recreating will also be a pretty fun event. I’ll most liking stay away from recreating for a few seasons just to build a stockpile of media money and focus on PBE for a bit. And by stay away from the league I don’t necessarily mean I’ll just ghost everyone, I’ll still hang out in LRs and the like, just without a player. Then I definitely plan to recreate at a to be decided position. I don’t plan to demand to play for a specific DSFL or ISFL team, though there’s a good chance that I’ll conveniently recreate at a position of need for Tijuana. Once again, totally of my own volition and with the caveat that I’ll play for anyone, partially because I’m not a huge fan of DSFL lifing or demands to play with teams, though it’s certainly reasonable in some cases. Former GMs and the like I totally understand wanting to return to their original team, while there’s a strong difference between the Gyles’ and Cheese’s of the world that are active in the LR but either earn very slowly (in the case of the former) or just want to stay down (in the case of the latter), as compared to the “an AC or two in order to remain eligible” but for all intents and purposes IA players. It’s a real Mith and Swanky move, in the sense that it’s (in my view) against the spirit of the DSFL. LR active and technically active are two really strong distinctions I like to make. LR active people are great and build the general team spirit, while technically actives tend to feel more like fillers for rosters. And I understand that I say that as someone who is pretty much a technically active OL that is rather quiet in my ISFL LR, and though I’m mostly referring to the DSFL my point still mildly stands in reference to myself. However, I’ve never seen such a thing as being “against the spirit of the ISFL” with it being the major league where most things short of cheating are fair game, compared to the DSFL where the entire point is to develop new users (it’s kinda in the name and all that), help them out, introduce them to the league, and ultimately have a fun time to decide to stick around. Winning is awesome, but it’s secondary to having a great LR environment and preparing new users for the ISFL. Of course, I’d also say that winning is secondary to the active and fun LR in the ISFL, just to a lesser extent than what I said about the DSFL. Now all of this is just my random ramblings about weird league stuff that I’m just kinda rolling with since it’s somewhat late at night and I need to finish this, but I still think the general point stands. I’m really looking forward to what will hopefully be at least a pair of seasons experiencing the DSFL again before I rejoin the ISFL for what will hopefully be a more successful and consistent recreate career. I know it’s kinda weird that I feel strongly about the DSFL, but that’s probably the effect Tijuana has had on me. I know some dismiss it, and while i agree that it’s ultimately not too important when it comes to awards and stats I still feel that it’s absolutely crucial that it be a welcoming and fun environment for new rookies that join, as well as retention of said rookies.
