(S30) PT 4 - Tough Loss

Recently our team suffered a heart-wrenching loss to the Pythons. They were winning most of the game, until we made a great comeback towards the end. I ended up making a huge stop towards the end of the game that sent us to overtime. Once overtime began, our defense made a huge stop at the opponents own 1 yard line to give us a chance to win the game. We only needed one yard to score, however something went horribly wrong. We decided to try to kick it on first down and we our kicker somehow botched the easy kick. Unfortunately this had been a trend that had been brewing for a few weeks already, our kicker was on quite the cold streak that cost us against some really good opponents. After the loss we regrouped in the locker room and unfortunately started to blame the kicker for our recent misfortunes. It was difficult signaling one guy out like that, after all it is a team sport, but sometimes no matter how difficult it is to have those tough conversations, they must be had and people need to be held accountable when their poor play affects us for a few weeks in a row. I am happy to report that ever since that unpleasant discussion we had in the locker room, our kicker has been perfect on the field, making even the really far difficult field goals. I am both impressed and in awe with how well our kicker has performed in the face of adversity, and I honestly couldn’t be happier for him. It is going to be a great seeing him kick at the next level, he is both an awesome player and awesome friend and I feel blessed to have him on our team!
