I am deeply disappointed that there are people defending the general managers in all of this.
The argument that it is fine because it is nothing worse than you might see on a meme page or a subreddit would stand up if that is what people had signed up for here. This is a league official channel for DSFL general managers and decisively not a dedicated meme chat. If it had been a one-off instance that everyone active had agreed to that is one thing, but at 100+ instances it was very much something that everyone in the server would see regardless of their interest in it. What makes that especially irritating is how easy it is to set up a separate area to hold that kind of chat for those interested on Discord.
Referencing one of the pieces being posted in the general server is a good point and I would not be opposed to that user being punished for it, but given it was a one-off instance instead of a prolonged period of posts I am also understanding of why they do not go through the effort there. I should point out that I muted that server and reduced my activity there because of incidents like that though as it is not what I would have expected. Additionally it is much easier to attribute one such incident to stupidity per Hanlon's razor than to do so for 100+ instances. Even if just caused by stupidity when it is on that scale it is still more befitting of being fined appropriately.
The reason for there not being a cap on the fine is because if you cap it then people know that once they pass that point there is nothing stopping them from going for broke with no additional penalty. Which could render a chat effectively unusable for some users. I would not normally think that cap would be hit, but the fact that this had over 100+ instances with 80 of them by one user proves that it quite easily could happen.
Nobody is going to stop the fined users from making their own server where they can chat about this subject matter at their leisure, and share whatever memes they deem fit. The difference being is that everyone who goes to such a server knows what to expect. They will also actively be signing up for it with that knowledge and by extension not having it forced on them regardless of their interest or disinterest. I would have expected the general managers to have enough common sense to do that anyway, but I hope that this will be a lesson well learned by them.
TL;DR: Keep your content appropriate for the area and audience.

I think this is a good point too that hasn’t been brought up much. I have also reduced my participation in NSFL general server in a large part due to just distasteful conversation and memes. I used to hang out in there all the time but stopped for those reasons. I know of many others who are in the same boat.
So, I do just keep my mouth shut and leave sometimes, as evidenced by the fact that I’m rarely in general anymore.
But I think this would go to show that “safe for NSFL general server” might not be the best metric for judgement anyway. Obviously you can’t just restrict anything that could possibly offend someone, but we have a pattern even in the General discord from what I’ve seen. This is the most important part, I think. Because what do we say when we are getting a lot of new guys? “everyone be on your best behavior” and many of the older and more mature guys will work to cover up embarrassing off color memes or whatever so that new guys aren’t scared off or offended. These are signs that we know we’re pushing it in general chat even, and can and should do better.

I see your point but id like to point out theres a huge gap between 1st and 2nd. Deadly won this race. Tho winning in punishments isnt the goal.
